There is no album version, this is a new song that is yet to be recorded, the lyrics online are took from when she performed the song on WNYC's Spinning On Air. This was before the Creature I Don't Know tour in England, since then the key of the song has changed, plus minor changes to the lyrics, I'd imagine the recorded version will have this structure and lyrics rather than the SoA version.
I noticed that. The only recording I saw of that was an early version on WNYC. Funny how one word can be switched and the song can be interpreted a little differently.
well if you look for the lyrics online, they're the same, "god and his lying" but she never sings that live...im sure the album version hasn't changed.
Check out my video "The beast" from York cathedral......maybe its because I was there but its the one that still raises the hairs on the back of my neck! She is amazing live....
But we know laura marling, shes daring, i don't think she'll edit anything out to appease a certain audience...although she might sing it that way live...i don't know. we'll have to wait and see.
I want her to be the greatest songwriter/singer of our era, but somehow I have this sense of dread that she is spinning out of control. Try to find that solid rock foundation, Laura, please!
I keep gravitating back to this performance for a reason I just can't put my finger on. What a gem.
Me too. Something magic about it.
i just felt that laura is the World's best singer&songwriter
I had the pleasure of being there for this amazing performance :)
Second time seeing her, and hopefully many more to come
My favourite performance of this song on youtube, without a doubt. Thanks!

Folk genius
Here's one hoping that Laura Marling doesn't fall prey of the music business.
Great singer songwriter.
Our dreams came true!
Thanks :-)
I think the song has just changed, the lyrics and the key have changed, sounds much better now
Distinct echoes of the Cranberries vocal style here: I like it!

What do you think now? :)
What do you think after four years of posting this and someone already asked the same question one year ago?
its funny how when she performs this live she never sings "God and his lying" Perhaps it's not to offend anyone.
