After removing the head on this 80V trimmer, note Atlas 80V trimmer head is the same on 80V Greenworks or 80V Kobalt. They all have a right hand thread 10 mm x 1.25 which is not likely to be included option for most "universal" trimmer head replacements. So my work around with the Echo Speed Feed 400 was to take their smallest threaded nut option and drill it out with 11/32 drill bit and then tap the hole to make M10 1.25 threads. Then the new "universal" head can be attached just as you showed in your video.
yeah.. I have a Kobalt Gen 2 80V. identical! Anybody figure out how to put a cut string big boy head on the and keep the motor fan intact? That's my mission! Sick and Tired of STUPID BUMP and DUMP crap where the string lasts 5 mins. I want the big 0.1" stuff.. 2 cut strings/ 4 cutting strings.
This trimmer head is exactly like the Toro (60v Flex Force) string trimmer and there are no videos I could find anywhere (or service manuals online) that show how to remove it. It has the same exact mechanism inside as this Atlas. Thanks a lot - glad I found this video!
Thank you very much for this video! I got a piece of fence wire wrapped up in the motor shaft. With your video, I was able to remove the head and pull the wire off.
Yeah man just what I been looking for. I have the 40V . It also has a spring clip on tge shaft to keep the head on . Guess I didn't try hard enough to to unscrew. Will get a bigger screw drive and try again. Thank you

Excellent video, I’ll say this, my teenager ground off the arrows and bound up the head, but I used the same screw driver to snap the tabs and pop it off
It's not hard to grind the plastic smooth. Mines not perfect anymore either so good thing it can be replaced fairly easy. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Dude.. that is identical to the Kobalt 80V!.. Trying to get a cut string big boy head on it but not mess up the motor cooling fan part. I used an impact screwdriver tip, and busted two tips off! I see your shaft has marks like mine! Instant replay! You got it! I couldn't. Looks like I can cut the fan part off keeping the hole.. then figure out a spacer for the new cut line head. Thanks.. Kobalt and Atlas 80V trimmers are identical at least at the motor end.
Here is the video I did for the Speed Feed 400 on a Kobalt 80v. You do have to retap the threads on the Green or Gold adapter. I used a flat head adapter on a racket to get mine loose. I think you get a little more leverage that way. ua-cam.com/video/6UEuwi7vSw0/v-deo.html

My husband is working out of town currently, and he tried to instruct me over the phone on how to stabilize the shaft, to remove the trimmer head, but he thought there was a hole somewhere on the housing (there is not LOL). Thanks for doing what the store said was impossible. Their solution is to buy another weed eater when all I need is a replacement spool cover. This is very helpful! Do you have any idea where I can find a replacement spool cover? Unfortunately, I have destroyed the cover and have had no luck locating a replacement. Any help would be appreciated!

Have you had a problem with the stock heads not wanting to turn to reload the line? We have on all of our Atlas units so far and its so bad we have to use a big pair of channel locks just to load the line.
@@cunninghamlawncarellc1695 With the 0.080 line, it's not bad loading about 10-12 feet in. With the 0.095 which edges a lot better, I can only put in about 6-7' and sometimes it does hang up, making it rough on the hands trying to get it all in without trimming excess line off.
Well I finally got out and stated wracking.. the weeds it worked great BUT the Wacker stops working it turns on then off ??? Is it getting too hot ?? Then cooling off ??

I have this exact Atlas 80 V electric string trimmer and I really like it because it cuts really good but adding more trimmer line to the head was always really hard but lately it's nearly impossible for some reason I think my trimmer had got warped or something and more worn out and I think it was warp when I first got it but it cut so good I kept it instead of getting another one but the last time I added trimmer line to it then it was nearly impossible so I really need to buy a replacement head that's preferably a different brand that's easier to use so would you know which replacement universal head would actually work good that's affordable and of course much easier to use for this Atlas 80 V string trimmer?
@@Charliemmafan I don't currently have a recommendation besides the OEM but I noticed the same problem in mine. I use the 0.095 orange line and can only get about 6 feet of line in there.

I guess I can't directly answer your question for sure except to say that the aftermarket head would have to be set up to receive an approx 5/16 shaft and have an area at the end of the shift to put a compatible threaded nut on the end. The fact that many of those heads are uniquely compatible with certain models makes it hard to be 100% sure. I might look into some different brand heads to see if there are any close compatible options.
The arbor for a swwblade would be 5/8".. the shaft for this is eyeballed at around 5/16" so a bushing would be needed and the new washer and nut would have to match the threads in the motor shaft. A lot of those sawblades on trimmers seem pretty shady though. It can be done with the right hardware. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Just answered this in your other comment. If you reversed the polarity of the wires to the motor, then it is possible, but could spin the head off during trimming eventually and also the cooling fins wouldn't work how they are supposed to
I haven't looked into aftermarket heads for electric trimmers with the motor at the trimmer head. If there isn't a better speed feed type version, then this video would be for replacement purposes only I guess. Thanks for watching and commenting!

This is just an educated guess, but I'm going to say probably not due to a blade not having cooling fins for the motor. Anything could probably be rigged up but I think it would shorten the motor life. Thanks for watching!
I don't understand where you're putting your flathead screwdriver. When I look down through the shaft hole on mine there are these sets of black plastic lines and there is not room between any of them to put a wide screwdriver. And then I'm still not sure where you're actually putting it because your video doesn't show that very well.
I'll do what I can to help. So you're viewing it from the bottom of the trimmer head (like looking directly at the bump feeder button). Remove the bottom as if you're taking the line spool out. In the center, there is a metal part which is the end of the shaft and it has a large slot like a flathead screw. That is where all of this video happens.
@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree So is your flathead screwdriver in the slot while you turn the spool head counterclockwise? I thought you were slipping your flat head screwdriver down the side trying to lock a hex nut in place
@@hc9987 You got it! As I said in the video, your just holding the shaft from spinning while unscrewing the head by hand. It will be tough at first due to the blue threadlocker compound, but after a couple turns it spins right off.

Yep, I'm only making the shaft stationary and spinning the head counterclockwise by hand. There is thread locker so it takes a little bit of elbow grease to break it free. Good luck
I want to make sure I'm doing this right. So the screwdriver is only making contact with the shaft and is in the slot of the shaft? Because I'm using WD-40, had it soaking for about 15 minutes in WD-40 and it won't budge. I'm ready to take a multitool to it and cut it off😮💨
@@smjohn4640 you got it right but I found it essential to use that larger flathead when breaking it loose just to give you that extra leverage and resistance.
@@carlawoolbright7909 ugh! Sorry that you're having trouble with it. It does take a good bit of strength/force to free it from the thread compound the 1st time. If you were in Ohio, I'd come do it to save the frustration.
REMEMBER the cooling fins you showed on the oem head? Thats REQUIRED to cool the electric motor. SO, any aftermarket head you install MUST have cooling fins or you will burn up the motor. !

You're welcome. Yes, mine doesn't load string very easily itself. I use the thicker 0.095 line and the spool only takes 6 feet or so of line.

Super interested in knowing if anyone can make an aero flex head work, without burning up the motor.

I need to replace mine as well. My issue is that the head becomes harder to load full. Are you having that issue as well?

Has anyone been able to mount a Echo Speed Feed head on these?
I haven't and I'm skeptical that they would be compatible. It would be nice though
REMEMBER the cooling fins you showed on the oem head? Thats REQUIRED
to cool the electric motor. SO, any aftermarket head you install MUST have
cooling fins or you will burn up the motor.
