The all new 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series: Overview
Maybach aims to transform the Mercedes-AMG SL63 sports car into a luxury grand tourer with an unmistakable paint scheme and numerous stylistic and mechanical changes.
• Mercedes-Benz's Mercedes-Maybach division is venturing into the two-seater realm with an ultraluxury version of the Mercedes-AMG SL63 roadster named the Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series.
• The Maybach makeover encompasses exterior styling revisions, exclusive paint schemes, and tweaks to the interior. It retains the AMG SL63's 577-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, nine-speed automatic, and all-wheel-drive system, but the company says it has implemented changes that make the roadster quieter and smoother-riding.
• The new Maybach 680SL goes on sale in the U.S. in the summer of 2025 as a 2026 model.
Mercedes-Benz's Maybach subbrand offers a premium level of luxury, power, presence, and prestige, surpassing the standard models offered by Mercedes.
Maybach is introducing the 2026 SL680 Monogram Series, an ultraluxury version of the Mercedes-AMG SL63 sports car. This model, which is smaller than the current S-class sedan, GLS SUV, and EQS EV SUV, offers a unique chauffeur-ready experience, with passengers sitting in the passenger's seat next to the driver.
Monterey Car Week Debut
Maybach has unveiled a new softtop roadster during Monterey Car Week, just before the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The 2026 model will be available in the U.S. in summer 2025. Maybach's chief design officer, Gorden Wagener, aims to create the most luxurious and sophisticated version of the standard Mercedes, aiming to cater to the upper-class car buyers.
The AMG SL has undergone significant changes, including restyled bumper covers, a new grille, 21-inch Maybach wheels, and chrome trim on the rocker panels and windshield surround. The hood now features a chrome spear and a Mercedes three-pointed-star standup hood ornament, while the hard tonneau cover aft of the front seats has small fairings reminiscent of 1950s race car headrests.
Two-Tone Paint and a Logo-Pattern Top
The Maybach SL is set to be available in two color combinations, Red Ambience (metallic red) and White Ambience (bright white), with a black hood and white leather interior, and will be exclusive to Maybach and available in the first model year.
The new convertible top of the SL adds visual differentiation by imprinting the Maybach logo multiple times, creating a pattern resembling a Louis Vuitton handbag. For an extra fee, the same pattern can be imprinted onto the hood.
Maybach has transformed the 577-hp SL63 from a sports car to a luxury grand tourer by adding sound deadening, a quieter exhaust system, recalibrated suspension, and retuned engine mounts to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness, and to quiet the cabin and subdue the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8's thunder.
Mercedes has upgraded the AMG SL63 with additional padding and a new Maybach sew pattern, while maintaining the nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive system. These Maybach upgrades add approximately 400 pounds to the standard SL63.
The extent of this transformation's effectiveness will only be revealed after a year of driving in a plush seat.
The Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series roadster is expected to be expensive, with prices announced closer to its on-sale date. The Maybach version, which starts at $250,000. This makes it exclusive, as the Mercedes-AMG SL63 starts at $188,050.
