That was great - I really miss the Lake District so I really appreciate being taken on such a nice tour. Those views were incredible and it reminded me of how beautiful it is around Buttermere. Haystacks was the first 'peak' we summited in the Lakes but I had no idea the ridge in the other direction was so picturesque. Gotta find a way to get back there!

I did these same fells in September last year - all summits covered in cloud, but it did part long enough for me to catch a glimpse of Ennerdale and the forested valley below where I was standing. Beautiful.

I’m so mad at myself for not being able to get to the top of Red Pike… But it was sooo slippery for me. One step forward and a big slide back. Then I tried on the grass but that took me off path and I sort of ended up climbing the side and getting stuck. So the safety voice in my head called it a day. But I really wanted to do the whole walk on top of the ridge and going back down the other side of the lake. Still burns. Will try again 💪

Wonderful video Abbie on such a beautiful day. Hubby (disabled) and I were at Buttermere two weeks ago and my dog enjoyed a dip in the Lake. I was longing to do a low level circuit of the lake but couldn't leave hubby on his own for too long. In fitter days we went up Haystacks, so lots of great memories.

It’s a great walk, I did this yesterday. Things to note, the video condenses the distance (about 14km) and the level of scree up Red Pike and down High Crag. Be careful with the footing and enjoy because it’s wonderful up there

Great watch. I walked the same route on the 22 March. Fab weather. Every year the short scramble to Red Pike gets more eroded. Dodd is a fantastic view point. We stopped there too. Where did you stay? Didn’t catch the name of the camp site. In bad weather High Stile can get very confusing ! Take care.

As a Wainwright bagger myself, Dodd is one of the peaks that causes me to question his thinking. How it could be excluded and the Mell Fells, for example, included, puzzles me. I often wonder what the cut line was.

Lol at your comment of loving the names of the places around there. They are Different for sure. I live on the west coast of Canada and I love the scenery of most of the places you go for hikes. We have mountains, which I have no interest in climbing in that I am over 60 & very out of shape. I Would like to hike some of your walks but only Some as others are downright scary to me. Thanks for sharing your treks with us, your collective audience. :-) This hike was not one that I would do. :-)

My first hike and Wainwrights in the LD (and first YT video) was this route except that I went up via Scale Force to Red Pike and looked down over Bleaberry Tarn...the path looked crazy steep from the top. I hated that descent from High Crag to Seat...I don't know how anyone did it safely in front of me without a hiking pole/stick. I have good memories of that first epic Lake District hike though.

Some pretty nice infinity pools at the back of fleetwith pike to the right of warnscale bothy where the waterfalls drop down de ent size pools for a bit of skinny dipping there is one really deep pool it's not to big probably ten foot by eight foot but it's deep your feet won't touch the bottom they're pretty tricky to access as the ledges from warnscale bothy are hard to get by they can be accessed from dubs bothy if you follow the path to buttermere if u cross the stream and follow the water back up but again to access the pools you need to navigate some crag ledges so if your not a climber don't try as it is dangerous but from the pools you get an awesome view of the water as it looks like it's dropping directly into buttermere lake..

That was amazing. Would love to do that. Not sure how I would manage going down with chronic back / leg pain. (not to mention fear of heights and falling from them lol) Oddly, I'm fine going up. I will get out of breath and have to stop now and then, but I do well at it. If only I didn't have to go back down. Hoping as I get out more that my legs, especially my hips and knees will start to improve (for me it's nerve damage)

We are in Buttermere next weekend and thinking about walking that route (weather permitting). May i ask if you also climbed Haystacks or did you cut down prior to that? Also is this route suitable for someone with average fitness who occasionally gets overwhelmed by steep descents?
