- A routine EEG is a test that uses small flat metal disks (electrodes) to detect electrical activity in the brain. These electrodes are typically attached to your child’s head with nontoxic glue, causing little to no discomfort during the EEG. A video EEG takes this test one step further and takes a video of your brain simultaneously.
