    Interesting walk! I enjoy it when you show us these lesser known neighborhoods.

    Chinatown is huge over there, and more diverse than people realize! Fuzhou is its own province with its own unique language, albeit somewhat similar sounding to Cantonese.

      Yes, it's a huge section of Chinatown, although it's rapidly disappearing.

    29:14 Great view of the Manhattan Bridge and good timing with subway passing by! 😍🌉 This was so interesting to see as I never knew there are shop right underneath the Manhattan Bridge! It was nice seeing the shops and restaurants, and hopefully, the businesses will survive here. 🙏 Thank you for sharing the history and this walk through Little Fuzhou Chinatown and Two Bridges, AK! 🤗

      Thanks! The East Broadway Mall is in danger of closing up for good and the city reclaiming the property. Hopefully it can be saved.

    Grew up in, and worked in this area. Chinatown literally began at Worth St./Chatham Square, ended at Canal, and vice versa. Beyond Canal was Little Italy. Going East from Chatham Square, along Catherine Street, and towards the East River, were mostly Italians. Over the years, they either died, or moved out, and Chinatown extended into the area (Market/Monroe streets). thanks for posting; brings back fond memories of my childhood.

    Wow I remember that East Broadway mall in the early 90s was a busy place same as the Chinatown areas around there I've done lots of business with those in that area I'm saddened to see it's mostly vacant now!! Wow I used to shop at that pathmark!!

      It's sad to see the East Broadway Mall in the condition it's in now. I heard it's in danger of being taken over by the city since it's their property.

      @ActionKid Wow I'm praying they can turn it around or the city could help them with some assistance in getting it back up and running would even be better. 🙏

    The East Broadway Mall-30 or 40 plus years ago it was concert hall/movie theater. I remember my mom went to a cantonese opera show there. It was packed. The Holiday in near the Manhattan bridge also use to be a chinese movie theater.

    I think I see Chatham Tower behind the statue. I spent several Yeats there with one of my aunts in the mid to late 70's.

    It's sad that most downtown Chinatowns throughout cities across America are FILTHY and rundown. Most buildings are dilapidated and defaced with GRAFITTI. Most streets are filled with trash and unkept on daily basis. However, the only bright notes are its kind and humble people and the delicious food.

    Thank you Kenneth for this video. Sad to see such a large area so depressed. Maybe there is a need to plan this area again and develop it from the ground up. After so many years, times is up for a total development where both business, people and government should be involved in it. Otherwise, this area is inviting bad elements and police activity that will not be good for the area. You did a good job showing this area as is.

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  2 роки тому +2

      You're welcome. It's tough to see this area which was once brimming with activity in the 90s and early 2000s just become more depressed. I really hope this part of Chinatown gets changed for the better.

      Any improvements mean existing residents won’t be able to afford it. It’s a safe neighbourhood.

    • @rephaelrechitzky9763
      @rephaelrechitzky9763 2 роки тому

      @@hkraytai No, it is time for people to improve their lives and areas. This is an advanced country and not a 3rd World country and should not support such defeating attitude. Young people should start to move to change and improve.

    Asians Chinese contribute sacrifice n care for Amerikkka than both white n black add together but our hood town n cities get little fund for everything like this memorials is ridiculous so tiny n even abandoned while white hoods get all amenities utilities libraries park like heaven but just residents place no business pay lot tax for it. Im surprised this memorials with such word to honor Chinese American sacrifice for USA way back then, ahead their time.

    Wrong to have such large enclaves of any community or group racial linguistic or religious or whatever
    While multiculturalusm is good and progressive ghettoization goes against the primary benefit of multiculturalism
    Legal provisions must be invoked to change the face of all such enclaves of various groups asap
