I never realized there was so much involved in lighting a stage or subject. You explanation and comparison of the 60 and 150 was exceptional. Thank you.
Thanks Andrew! The drop in optical performance with the larger COB doesn’t give my high hopes for the 720B with the projector… fingers crossed for that one..
@@jeffbrass2351 yep I’m aware of that - just mentioned as the larger projector was optimized for the 300 and 500 forza which have a smaller COB than the 720. Expecting a similar drop in performance with the larger projector system after seeing this comparison on the smaller system.
Hey Andrew, thanks for all the content you put out. It's appreciated by many in the industry I'm sure. I'm looking for something which I can use to light very small areas, I'm talking part of a label on a perfume bottle, that sort of size. It needs to have as much power as possible and I can't afford a dedo and projection attachment. What would you recommend? Forza 150 with its projector or a Godox s60 with it's projector? I currently have the aputure spotlight mount with a 19 degree lens but I just can't get the beam small enough, especially when I also need to defocus it. Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers Max
@@gaffergear thanks Andrew good to know. I've seen that episode hence thought of the Godox, not a brand I'd usually think about. Then I saw your episodes about the smaller nanlite projector and wondered if it could accomplish the same thing with more output. I didn't think it could but thanks for confirming! Seems as though you really need a lens to get nice, smooth, feathered out of focus shapes. Cheers!
Hey Andrew. Hope you're well. I finally got the Godox s60 today and it's great. Surprisingly well built when compared to a Dedo. My only wish is that it were more powerful. I think it'll be ok when shooting at 24 fps but for higher frame rates I think the power is a little low. I was wondering if anything comes to mind which might work? Something with the control of this, the ability to create a nice out of focus shape (not harsh like the Aputure Spotlight, more soft gradient like a Dedo) but which also has a little more punch? I'm probably asking for too much and just need to rent Dedo's when higher power is needed. Cheers.
The Nanlite is incredibly bright with its 19⁰ beam, we have them standard out of the bag with an Nd.9 on the front. But it won't give you that chrisp single cut that you get of the dedo or godox if you are doing close up work on products
@@gaffergearCheers Andrew, that's what I thought sadly. I was testing it yesterday trying to use it to get a nice highlight in the liquid of a beer bottle. I had some 250 on the back of the bottle and was firing the godox into that from behind using the 150mm lens for intensity. It has to be very defocused to produce that nice gradient on the trace which in turn creates a nice highlight in the liquid. I think only a dedo can produce that soft gradient. I don't understand how people do it with high speed work...
Stupid question: If I decide to get the 60 or 60b, should I get the 19° or 36° version and why? I don't really get what the difference in a practical setting is. Also having a hard time deciding between the daylight and the bicolor version. I have an Aputure 300x as keylight. There I totally get the advantages of having the option to choose between temperatures. For background lighting I'm not so sure how often I would really need bicolor lighting. Having more power seems more tempting to me. Maybe you could share your opinion on that matter. That would be great!
The choice of daylight or bi-colour will be different for everyone. Most of my work is corporate, I hardly ever need to match to 3200k (usually fluros in the spaces I shoot so switch them off and light the whole scene myself) so the extra power of a daylight fixture is more useful for me. The odd time I need 3200 I just gel.
I reluctant to advise on mono colour versus Bi-colour as it is very dependent on your work. With the beam angle, my advice is for long throws go a narrow beam, for wide throws go the 36⁰. So it depends if you need to do more long throws, or more short throws.
Great video as always! Quick question, have they told you if they plan on selling the m-size GOBO holder separately for those of us who already bought the original Nanlite Projector Mount back when it only came with the incorrectly-sized holder? Thanks!
@@gaffergear I've tried emailing them, messaging on social media and nothing yet. If I hear back and get an answer, I'll come back here and let you know! :)
Hi! Awesome video again! Can you make a video how to use / build booms with Aluminium pipes for super long reach? I have seen you use these long booms with mat LED so im super curious! Thank you!
It's so small it almost looks like a toy! Love it

Different projector. This one won't fit the 720

@@cagf2013 I'm hoping it's ok as the 720 COB is not hugely different in size, fingers crossed.
Waiting for your review of Aputure 600c Pro !
Everyone is. But first beta testing of the firmware to get it as perfect as possible.

Hello. I can't wait for your "Forza 720" review. I am also wondering if the "PJ-BM" can be attached to the "Forza 720".

Can't afford dedo have a look at some of the godox. Very sharp optics. I have an episode on them a few years back

@@gaffergear guess I need to figure that out! Thanks for clarifying 👍🏻

It's in the pipeline for review, but check out "meet the gaffer" and "Grip Tips" they both have episodes on "menace arms"
So..will they simply update user manual to direct which way to insert gobo? ;) Seems like pretty consistent hotspot in center.
You may be seeing glare off the metal wall in the centre
Would you say the output would be enough to mimik sun hitting the table through blinds with the 150? :)
Is that the light fan I can hear in the background?
The 60 fan is lound, my I'm standing right next to it.
The 150 fan is very quiet
@@gaffergear Thank you!
How do I know which angle is right for me - 36° or 19°?
19⁰ for long throws or precision work like lighting a face only , 36⁰ is better for close work or putting a pattern on a wall in a room
What do you think about the cinelight - lighting brand?
I haven't seen any of them
@@gaffergear Ok, thank you.
which do you prefer? Nanlite 60 or Aputure 60?
Nanlite 60 with its projector attachment. 19⁰ lens for long throws ticks boxes for me
