Because... It's socialism (statism) for the banks and hyper capitalism (moneyism) for everyone else. Socialism is statism, and the state is always, ALWAYS, used by monied interests unless it's minor states (think Norway).
I am disabled. My back was shattered in an automobile accident where I was a passenger. Almost completely wheelchair ridden, and I live in a liberal state, NY. And they still give me a hard time. Things need to change.
If you want to permanently end poverty in someone's life, you can't simply throw a little money and order them to get a job. You need to restore the educational system; half the adults in Detroit can't read so how are they going to get work without being exploited since they can't read contracts? You need to provide mental health services as many in poverty suffer mental illness - it's dammed depressing and can make you feel hopeless and ineffectual even if you don't have a mental illness. You need to build confidence. Most people can get a job, but can they keep it? Will they sabotage because unconsciously they think they can't hack it? Many people not just the poor do. Wages need to rise dramatically. You cannot live on minimum wage now and that used to support a family of four to buy a home and car. Minimum wage needs to increase. You need to have universal health care so the people who get sick don't drop out or go homeless to pay bills. Our country is failing and we're all in danger not just the poor. We can't expect them to excel while everyone else declines.
Why do seniors have to work longer before getting social security that they were FORCED TO PAY INTO ALL THEIR WORKING LIVES? Politicians spent the social security funds on Welfare, Wars, Military, illegal immigrants etc.
So it would've maybe worked if it had been used by all states to get the poor get trained for jobs, but still, there would need to be a safety net (it obviously needs to influence people to get jobs but also a 1yr time limit when there are no jobs is too little, I feel like it should depend on job availability in the state or that the number of benefits should decrease the more time you're on them) still expecting people not to need Welfare when you allow them to get paid 8$/hr is laughable
People don't seem to understand that if he had not given in to the republicans at that time, we would have ended up with all three government branches controlled by them in 1997. he went too far to the left in his first two years, and that created a backlash that gave republicans full control of the Congress in 1994. By working with them during this time, he managed to win back some of the supporters he had lost in his first two years and evened out the Congress again in 1998.
One of the many reasons I didn't vote for Clinton or bush and voted for perot. My whole life I've had horrible choices and had to hold my nose to vote. I reluctantly voted for Biden but he has proven himself to be the best president of my lifetime and for the first time in my 70 years I'm going to vote for Harris and feel like this is a candidate I can support fully
I hope Bill Clinton starts picking up my phone calls and finally agrees to do a boxing match with me . I'm so excited to knock him the fuck out but I need to win the right way, in the ring .

They all went to get jobs at McDonald's...then created McDonald's to raise a family salary on
Welfare to work allowed welfare department access to the family court system by means of court connect nonprofit organizations, hospitals, Social workers . Bill C knew exactly what doors he was opening. These public assistance Departments need people on welfare . From a business perspective the people welfare are the CLIANT. they are doing whatever they need to do to get their product to their clients . Like any business would .
Maybe you should be forced to take a randomized drug test when you go for your license, or go for a job, get a gun license, Fishing license, hunting license.
Why was so much attention given to social welfare programs, but very little attention to corporate welfare, bank bailouts etc?

@@sulimanthemagnificent4893 Thank you. Well said.
Don't forget tax evasion by the top 1% which costs US tax payers $150 billion a year!

Sorry
how a country treats their poor population is a direct show of their values
And they're willingness to commit suicide
Worst case scenario is a horrible thing to focus on .
@@Devfullfaithandcredit its not a worst case scenario. It's reality.
How a person handles their personal finances is a direct show of their competency at life.
Meanwhile Canada is starting a minimum guaranteed income pilot....
Tax evasion by the top 1% costs the US $163 billion, but yeah... let's focus on some poor mom on welfare! LOGIC

You make some very good points
As a non American, I am taken back when you state that half of detroits adult population cant read.
Anyone else can confirm this?
Universal basic income would really help fix this problem and the mindset behind welfare
That just sounds like more welfare.
@@Roddy556 Cool story, buddy.
@@DKD81-tf1db not really a story but okay

I think welfare needs overhauling . Agreed 100 % . Also , let’s see companies / individuals that pay zero or near zero tax should pay up NOW .
So the welfare recipients? Lol
Thanks Reagan
great videos as always
In California, a single mom of a toddler gets $881 a month and like $500 in food stamps. And low income housing out here costs $1000+. What gives?!

A work camp type program I could get behind. Broke? Go work for food and housing at a government infrastructure project.

At that time, I say a better word usage should have been "reduce" welfare as we know it rather than "end" welfare.
a lesson to remember
Foster parents legit get cashed out for adopting kids. Now, kids are expensive, I know that. But they do get stipends for children who get adopted.
Great film. Thank you for this!
Great video! I wish everyone knew about this. We still hear the same "blame the poor" talking points from conservatives 30 years later.
