I am so happy that this video came up on my feed! It's great to meet another Ambleside mom and see how you do geography. More please! :) We live in Ontario and there is a big cement replica of the Great Lakes that you can walk around and usually it has water in it. But yesterday some friends and I met there with our kids and there was no water in it, so we got in with all the kids and walked his path through the Great Lakes. And then this video showed up today so it was perfect! Cheers!

That cement replica of The 5 Great Lakes sounds like such a cool little field trip to take the kiddos too! How awesome that it’s not too far from you. I’m hoping to take my littles to visit Niagara Falls one day. I’m so grateful that you liked this video! I’m working in the next one now and it’s all about Year 1 literature. Cheers!

Would you consider sharing your Y1 schedules? 😍

    • @thisisme_cristi
      @thisisme_cristi  3 роки тому +2

I sure can! I’m thinking I might do a separate video about it to briefly explain how we use it and also it’ll give me a bit of time to clean up my schedule a bit because I have changed and tweaked it from one term to the other. Although I imagine every family should probably always be able to tweak the schedule based on what’s happening in their life. I’ll post the video up soon with a link to the schedules so that one can edit them to suit their needs. 🙂

@@thisisme_cristi Oh, that would be lovely! Wrapping my head around scheduling AO has been among the hardest aspects for me. You make it seem so simple! I appreciate your willingness to produce these videos and share what has worked for you, helping the rest of us limp along.

Which resources are not recommended from AO? And how did you find them?

It has its moments, but overall homeschooling is a wonderful experience for both you and your little one. I think the trick is to find what style of learner you have and create a routine that works for you both.

I heard the Buffalo Bill connection. My youngest is an August birthday. I was planning on doing 2 -3 of the readings with him this coming year (so my older child can hear too, we are new to AO). I was going to do Paddle since we live in Michigan. Do you think it is necessary to do that in the sequence of year one books or is it fine solo. I am thinking of doing that with Just so Stories and and either Blue Fairy or Burgess. Thank you for the overview. I loved it. I am excited to read all of these books and learn with my kids too.

Thanks! That’s the genius of how the Ambleside Online Curriculum is built. Little connections are interlaced throughout the terms based on the schedule they provide.
How exciting that you live in Michigan and can layer on field trips perhaps to areas where Paddle may have passed through!
How old is your youngest? Would you be primarily reading to your oldest and then inviting your youngest to listen in? That’s what I do. But I don’t limit the invitation to just a few books, I invite my 4yr old to hear all the books. Sometimes he stays sometimes he goes but that’s ok because I know that when he’s in Yr1 he’ll get a chance to listen to them all again. One book I highly recommend incorporating your younger children to listen in on is James Herriot’s Treasury. My kids and I absolutely LOVE this book! That book always gets the attention of all three of my kiddos. Make sure though that you get a compilation that includes all the stories in Year 1. Some treasuries only contain the stories for the first 2 terms.

Curious of you could share your weekly schedule template and how you organize your week? Im not good with creating the document itself, but love the idea of having it broken down.

      Hi Abby!
Sure! If it's the weekly schedule template that I made, you can access my library of freebies here: www.thisismecristi.com/accessfreebies.html
If it's the yearly schedule from Ambleside Online, you can find that on the AO Facebook group. Simply search schedules and you'll find your year there.
      Hope this helps!

We start Y1 in the fall and I'm gathering all the resources I can!
The video y'all watched about Niagra Falls after reading that part seemed like a good one.
Do you remember what it was, and would you mind sharing the link?

How did you find cm elementary geography book and cc long geography books? Did you have to adapt much, to modernise it or was it easy enough to implement still? I think they look lovely, just have this as a little concern, I'm not sure how much pre planning is needed for them or how much adaptation is needed. Great video! Loved seeing how you do things and what resources you use. Thank you for this video and sharing these things. :)

I look for books in lots of places but I have had lots of luck between Amazon Used books and EBay. I do look for deals though with Beautiful Feet Books and Living Books Press for certain books. I didn’t adapt anything at all. I followed the curriculum schedule off of Ambleside a online and just read the chapters outloud. My daughter sometimes follows along but mostly she just listens in. The CM books are written perfectly for this age range and explain things beautifully. I didn’t find any need to adapt. It all felt as open and go as one can get with CM. The only pre-planning I did for a geography in particular was have the maps ordered and on hand ready to start mapping out Paddle’s journey and have a globe to illustrate what CM talks about in her Elementary Geography book. The CC long book is as approachable as the CM book is.

We're currently no longer homeschooling, but when I was, I would use the lesson plan that another amazing mama made from AO the AO curriculum. She shared it within the AO Facebook Group. I'm sure that if you search the group for AO Year ___ schedule, you'll find it!

You can do what works for your family. If you like the idea of combining your two students, you should check out the page on the Ambleside Online website dedicated to “groups” : www.amblesideonline.org/Groups.shtml
They have so much valuable information and guidance in the website. Also, are you part of the Facebook group? If not, consider looking it up just for the support and the incredible amount of resources other moms put on there.
I combine my students but I really only have the Yr1 student that I keep to the schedule with pretty strictly. Whereas my Yr 0 has a little more flexibility of coming and going.
