Exactly. You are seeing if they could have gone farther actively. If so then weakness exists. But a contracture would obviously reduce the available ROM. Really, performing goniometric measurements prior to MMT to be the best way to assess IMO.

what if "more range isn't available"? then you grade within the available range? for example in cases of contracture or other joint limitations
