Earlier in March this year before the world locked down, we teamed up with our friend @singingbanana to find out what John Snow knows. We then waited for a good time to release it and well... we realised we might be waiting for a long, long time yet. So here's our final short film of the year. And now to mix metaphors - Victorian physician and medical pioneer John Snow: what did he know? Did he know things?? Let's find out.
Thanks for the upload, I did a lot of research into this illness when creating my UA-cam video and it’s definitely a topic that should have more awareness!
I teach GIS and stats at university level, and devote a lecture to John Snow--a true hero. If you run a weighted centre of mass-type average position over time, the pump is never more than 10-15 metres away from that point. (there's an animation on YT somewhere)
The singing banana is great in every environment! His sound quality on the (back then) busy streets of London is still better than most "home-productions" *kek*
Shut up, please. This video was filmed before that one. This story has been told in dozens of books and documentaries over hundreds of years. The fact that this is not the first UA-cam video published on the topic is not a surprise.

@@Huntracony What do you mean "stole", it's completely legitimate to learn something from a book or film and repeat that information in your own work. That's how the vast majority of published information works. I think you are wildly overestimating how many people will see both of two modestly successful UA-cam videos. The UA-cam comment saying only that another channel has previously made a video on the same topic is a classic annoying and unhelpful type of UA-cam comment, particularly on channels that focus on a certain niche where there is a limited range of video topics available.
Pretty wasteful to boil clean water. If the pipes are bad where you live then go ahead but in most cities there's no need, water supply systems have improved since the 1800s
@@oliverwilson11 No, like I said, even water systems in developed countries have momentary breaks. No system is perfect - that's why maintenance is required. No first world water system is maintenance free. The whole point of the first world is that we can afford to pay for people to do regular maintenance - not to skimp on it. But maintenance is not perfect. Things still break and take some time before they get diagnosed and fixed, not to mention the time it takes to notify everyone affected (if they even get the message in time). Having reliably clean water is great. If I'm in a hurry then I can be reasonably sure I'm safe. But it's not a guarantee, so even with modern clean water systems it is still better to be safe than sorry.
Came here just to comment that it should be spelt "Jon." Realized quickly enough that they were talking about a different character. But couldn't leave without commenting. RI, your click-baiting title worked. Sure, I noticed the gratuitous "You know nothing, John Snow" in the video. Good game.
We agree, and if we were to film it again now, we'd definitely be wearing masks. (Although not at this very moment as we're under Tier 4 regulations.) This was filmed back in early March 2020 when we were first hearing about the virus and when Public Health England advice didn't yet suggest mask wearing.

The best time to release it was March.

“I know about only one guy named Grime...”
...
Hey! That’s him! Dude from Numberphile!
It's the Singing Banana!
@@turpialito He's just lovely.
I saw James Grime and clicked ... love his entushiasm !!!!
I appreciate James, he's such an intelligent fellow. Thank you Ri! He's quite a legend to the viewers who know him 😃
So true! He's a legend.
I am a simple Numberholic, I see James Grime, I leave thumb up
My wife works in public health and when we visit London, we make a point of having a pint and lunch at the John Snow.
I adore this guy! Could hear him talk forever, and he's soooooo adorable. Italian n.1 fan of James Grime ;)
Excellently done. Great mini documentary. Very interesting
Remarkable, and it’s great to see James here. I’m a big fan of James’ numberphile videos.
His singingbanana acts are also great!
We LOVE James Grime!!!
yes we do.
I LOVE the integrating of the old map with the new buildings!
I am so educated by your channel thank you so much👍👍😊 now I am going to study hard
This video style, with its mix of pretty graphics, is great.
James delivers ;-)

great video
This video will age well in the light of Covid 20
Numberphile escapee FTW, reping for the "strawberry blonde" math geek community ... GOOD LAD!!! :D
Map men, map men, map, map, map, men, men
Oh, the agonies of parallel creation...
Given the different approach to presentation, I don't think one diminishes the other here very much at all. I enjoyed both videos. :)

@@lindhe I agree. Though I learned very little here that I hadn't already learned from Map Men, I at least found it enjoyable to watch.

beat me to it
James grime on the other hand.....
I think we all got the reference but thanks for pointing it out anyway ;p
14000? We can do that in 2 weeks now :(
The more english educators look like harry potter profs the more I'm goin like it 👍
I don't know when this was filmed, but it's strange to see that people in London aren't wearing masks in the street... The video is great though.
Now my brain is telling me there should be a collaboration between James Grime and Extra Credits.
So the science wasn't settled but the establishment tried to disparage and deprecate him; how contemporary.
Love from Pak 🇵🇰💖
14,000 deaths and no lock-down ?!?!?
what were those Londoners thinking ?!?!!?
completely irresponsible!
First to comment about science
Don't understand why people don't boil their water. Even today, you can never know when there's damage to the water system.
Used to cost too much

Hey! So the Snowy Johny knew some better!)
Well, well, well.. dont we have a singing banana here?
When I saw the title I went "But... You know nothing, Jon Snow"
For those claiming the past was better. ^_^
So John Snow didn't knew he was Aegon Targerean
