My favorite thing about beach house lyrics is that they are always directly specific in meaning to whoever is listening to it. This song could mean 8,000 things. I listen to this song every morning before work with my coffee and cigarette. It currently is exactly what is going on in my brain with this person I cant be with because of circumstances beyond our control. Its felt both ways. "Out in the endless green, your eyes are so misleading...that's when your car pulls up, its hood is black and gleaming" literally breaks my heart and puts it back together every time. It is SO scarily specific to what I'm experiencing. Beach House are magic. I am so grateful for music, and mostly this song. Will always be that song.
Best Beach House song full stop in my opinion. Majestic, overblown, arrogant - so fabulously arrogant - and dark. The intro's arpeggios are majestic, the verse is ominous and the chorus is heart-stoppingly great. Only the "wild in our way/" bit is anything less than stellar.
@@daisy9179 Jeez, I wrote this comment a looong time ago. But thanks. Try looking at some of Gerhard Richter's artwork too, the guy who painted it. He's amazing.
I retract that statement. I shouldn't speak of that since you said you're in recovery. Congratulations on your sobriety. I've watched a few of your videos Wes. They are great. You have a talent. God bless you!
Me and my parents have a pretty shitty relationship. My father has been physical in the past and my mother often cheers him on. We fight weekly over things that don’t matter. I dont have it anywhere near as bad as some people tho, i just want to make that clear. Its always the worst on my birthday. Now that im 18 i get kicked out a lot for defending myself. I always have my car, my wallet and my phone tho. The day after my 18th birthday. My parents were on me again, the previous night my father had strangled me and i had left the house. That night they kicked me out with no phone, no keys, no wallet. Nothing. Right before i walked out of the house i snatched my phone from my mothers hands and sprinted all the way to my best friends house. This song was playing in my earbuds as i ran up his neighbourhood hill. It felt like a movie. I was running so hard, at 2am, tears were running down my face.
Sir Richter omg I’m sorry this is happening to you, I know it’s hard finding out that the most toxic people in your life are the ones that are supposed to take care of you.. but I’ll pray that everything will be fine for you !!!
Thank you for sharing your life with us. I hope your words touch others, too. I don't know what help I'm able to offer, but if you want to talk sometime, I'm here. That goes for everyone reading this. If not to help, I have no purpose.
moved to greenland a year ago out of nowhere and while I was in the middle of the cold freezing temperature, with a whale swimming by my window, this song was playing.
Similar story to mine actually, the beauty of what happened anyway, i moved to Nepal a year ago and after I reached the peak on my first solo mount Everest hike I witnessed a 747 aeroplane fly past and demolish the mountain lion that was just about to go for my throat, it's left engine almost clipped the top of the mountain but instead sucked the mountain lion into the engine and sprayed blood and guts all over me and the white snow, it was the most majestic thing I have ever witnessed, also this song was playing at the time, had my portable speaker out sitting on the rock playing full blast then everything I mentioned happened, I cried afterwards, from sadness but also joy, sadness and nostalgia about the lion but joy about hearing this song during the event
OH.....it's not just you. Trust me. I want a whole album that makes me feel like that part does. As well as that insanely gorgeous 3 note guitar motif at the 1:00 mark.
Help how do I stop listening to this? I don't have tears left to cry. My breathing needs to simmer down a little bit when Victoria sings "Wild in ouuuuuuuuur waaaaaaaaaaays, what we aaare maaaaakiiing"
Last summer (2018) just broke up with my first boyfriend and the other day moved to San Diego. I remember being sad and anxious because everything was new to me. Then I met my friend’s friends and we went to mission bay. On our way back home, I was sitting in the backseat of the van looking through the window in the freeway and I was like “life is wonderful, everything has an end, I’m excited about new adventures here and this moment (the perks of being a wallflower vibes) is unique and I’m glad that i am living... all of this happened while this song was in the background. So this is why this song is so special to me, it’s a reminder that life is a cycle, everything and everyone has an end but it’s fine. I’m just trying to live the moment
How can you not like this? In what way is this less than other videos by Beach House, sure it's very ominouse and dark compared to the rest but it's by far the best in my opinion
This song reminds me of the Crowded House song called Don't Dream its Over from the 80s. Can't really put a finger on the detail of it. Just came out of the sub-conscious in the back of my mind. Maybe some chord change a short series of guitar notes. Aside from that I am so glad to discover this wonderful band.
I know you wrote this comment like 3 years ago, but I've always felt this exact same way about the two songs, and I remember seeing this comment a long time ago around when you first wrote it. It's absolutely uncanny how correct you are in that there is just some weird subconscious connection between the two songs.
"Wild" My mother said to me that I would get in trouble Our father won't come home cause he is seeing double Out in the endless green Your eyes are so misleading That's when your car pulls up Its hood is black and gleaming And in a while You start a smile The earth is wild You've got no time Wild in our ways What we are making Heartless to say You go, go on pretending One chance to fall behind the lines that will not let you Can I believe in how the past is what will catch you And in a while You start a smile The earth is wild You've got no time

It also sounds similar to billy idol eyes without a face. It has a similar echoey sound
Yep. Still true all these years later.
Agreed. Don't Dream it's Over is one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
@@briancox9357 Yes. I love the lyric “ don’t let them win. “
Still my favorite song 5 years later..thank you WTMD Towson Maryland
I remember this was my first song introduction to BeachHouse on Xfinity and demand when i was 12 in 6th grade..man I'm 20 now....the nostalgia
the guitar from 1:40 to 1:50... what Smiths track does that sound like.. It's vaguely familiar. Anyone know?
It does sound quite Smiths-y because of that jangly guitar, perhaps The Headmaster Ritual would be the closest ?
+rob poynter Well, the rain falls down on a humdrum town... this town will drag you down. William, it was really nothing.
sound more like post-punk, vagally like the cure or the new order
their best song along with Silver Soul/Norway/Walk in the Park/10 Mile Stereo/Heart of Chambers, sadly this version omits a part of it
Me too. Can't stop, don't understand dancing blonde black guy in video but still great
One of my top 3 beach house song
0:35 scared the mess outta me
such a good video, the fight scene is especially well done
love Beach House.. wish Baltimore would've been in the video... I have a car with a black hood that is Gleaming
under-rated needs to be listened to
I thought this song was about creampies and "going unprotected" but then I read the lyrics lol (go on pretending)
wtf
Wait I'm sorry but LMFAOOOO
Lmaooo um
I THOUGHT IT SAID THAT but i didn't interpret it like that until now...
God I love you Victoria Legrand. Such an amazing voice & the music is perfect. The ending of this song is goosebumps city lol.
Anyone know of anything similar to 0:30 - 0:49 of the song? That's the only part of the song I enjoy and I'm so sad it was only used in the beginning.
2:20 is literally what I am going through as if right now

"Wild"
My mother said to me that I would get in trouble
Our father won't come home cause he is seeing double
Out in the endless green
Your eyes are so misleading
That's when your car pulls up
Its hood is black and gleaming
And in a while
You start a smile
The earth is wild
You've got no time
Wild in our ways
What we are making
Heartless to say
You go, go on pretending
One chance to fall behind the lines that will not let you
Can I believe in how the past is what will catch you
And in a while
You start a smile
The earth is wild
You've got no time
Tis song makes me cry my heart out for the guy I love.. He went through similar things😢🌌❤️
Pensei ter visto "11 meses", mas o video foi ha 11 anos 😮 obg Beach House por existir por todo esse tempo ❤❤
