    I didn’t know I needed a germination chamber, but I totally need a germination chamber! 😂

I use a Styrofoam egg incubator. I put a govee wireless thermostat inside that measures humidity and temperature. It works very well.

After watching your video on lights, i started researching germination chambers and I built a small version of this with a half (smaller shelving unit) and placed a folding table over it so it's multi functional. I use a crockpot attached to a temperature controller and small humidifier in mine. The shelving unit and table sit on a 2'x4' hydroponics tray to catch any moisture. This works SO well for my dry arid climate. Thank you for the inspiration!!

How amazing! 🤩 So great to hear you were able to create a smaller version to suit your needs! Yes, I would imagine a chamber like that would be incredibly helpful for seed starters in dry climates like yours 😀 Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring others to try making their own versions! Have a fantastic day 💚🤗💚

i use plastic boxes that i cover with sheet plastic and put in the sun and the sun makes the box into a sauna and boom, perfect germination for warm season tender annuals.

Great episode thanks for sharing your info. The first thing I thought of when you were describing it was proofing box the bakers. I know those are available commercially but I have no idea what it cost.

What a great idea! I bake a lot of bread and have a small proofing box of my own, so I know exactly what you are talking about 😊 Thanks so much for sharing this fantastic idea, and have a wonderful weekend! 💚🤗💚

This is so helpful. I always wondered about this. Thank you for a clear explanation of the "sauna/steam bath." Very interesting. Could someone skip "the covering" or pinch soil around the seeds because they are in the chamber? You don't necessarily mix many different seed types (families) together in the chamber? Do you worry about damping off and fungal growth in the chamber with low airflow? Could a chamber have lights to avoid legginess or is legginess not a problem. Could someone use an old refrigerator/freezer?
I did have a batch of snapdragons this year that germinated without any problem however they never developed leaves. They were just little green stalks. I wondered if the space I was growing them in was too dry and the tiny seed heads did not come completely off. Is that possible? I had great germination (indoors/head mat/peat-compost/mini blocks). I did not use a dome or plastic wrap, so possibly the lack of humidity was a problem.

I had that problem with my snaps for several seasons. This year, I covered my blocks with a thin coating of vermiculite and covered the tray with plastic wrap using pizza box spacers. I watched morning and evening for germination and pulled the plastic promptly when I saw seedlings starting. No issues with the seeds staying on and smothering the seedlings.

So happy you found this episode interesting! 😊 Thanks so much for the follow-up questions, as well - I am adding them to my list of potential future episode topics / questions. Regarding your snapdragons, misting the seedlings can sometimes help to encourage stuck-on seed coats to fall off. Also, covering your seeds with wide-weave burlap, a thin layer of vermiculite, or something similar after sowing helps to retain moisture at the soil surface and can often reduce the number of coats that refuse to fall off. This can also occur if seeds are older, but assuming your seed is relatively fresh, it is most likely a moisture issue. Thanks again for your thoughtful questions and for watching! Have a wonderful weekend 💚🤗💚

What helpful (and thoughtful) suggestions. I will give this a try for sure. At first I thought that something was eating all the tops off but I knew that not to be the case. I was clueless.
