Seriously what will i not be growing in it. From veggies to flowers. I’m itching to start my seedlings. After watching this video. I’m looking out where to source the items you used today. NC growing Go big
I used to work on a farm until a car accident shattered my back. While I can no longer do a 400 acre farm 10 hours a day / 6 days a week, I have found doing whatever form of gardening I can not only helps with physical rehabilitation, but keeps my mental health up since it is reminiscent of how I was able to function before a person on opiates crashed into my car and changed my life. So, if I were to win this, I would use it for my small personal garden / semi permaculture I have been setting up as a therapy treatment for me where I grow plants for my family, which includes dogs, lizards, and fish (they all get various herbs and produce I grow), and when I have access, used to help people in my neighborhood obtain free produce (I put plans and produce on my front yard for people to take for free with the intention to build one of those "free library" set ups to put it all in, once I have the funds and now that I am at a point in my recovery where I can actually do this).
This is my second year of gardening, I'm planning on starting pepper seed, tomatoe seed , and 10 different herbs. In the raised beds I'm going to have green and wax beans, peas, cucumbers, 3 varieties of potatoes, melons. I've learned so much from your site. Most of my life I've had a brown thumb so I figured I'd give one more try at the age of 61 and low and behold I had alot of success and figured I would start my second year with starting my own seeds. Thank you with this site and several other sites I've learned so much.
I'm growing 6 varieties of tomatoes including Black Krim,Black Beauty,Porterhouse, classic Beefsteak,Amish paste and Large Red Cherry as well as two types of peppers, two types of carrots, two types of cucumbers, Zucchinis,Beets,Radishes,Lettuce and Kale and some flowers for my wife.I really appreciate the wealth of information you provide on seed starting as well as all other gardening info and how to ideas.
I will be growing peppers, peppers and more peppers! Last year 152 tomato plants as space is limited, the family now knows what tomatoes are must grow each year and enough jars and tomato skin powder for 2 years. This year is the year of the pepper! Sauces, rubs, pickles and fresh eating. We will create recipes and determine which peppers will be must grow each year. So, I will soon be starting peppers of all kinds grilling, smoking, hot, sweet fruity all the pepper flavors. We're so excited. I love having my adult kids and grandchildren and my mother (82) in our 2 kitchens and involved as a team. So blessed!
I use the bigger coco coir and put it in my raised beds to help with not having to water as much. I put it in the bottom middle part of each bed and then cover with soil. Really helps especially when i can't be in the garden for a few days to water. I didn't know a finer version even existed until this video. Thanks Luke, this was helpful!
I am helping to plant and operate a Freedom Farm Academy. We will be growing and helping our community learn how to grow their own perennial food forest. I have loved making my own soil mix in the past and am super excited to try this recipe, as I have not yet used coco coir (only peat moss). I will literally use this for ALL my seed starts (peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, etc) as well as for my potting mix for many indoor plants and herbs. Thank you for all that you do to help create a brighter and more beautiful self-sustaining world for us all.
I make seed starting mix with 2 part sieved compost, 2 part coco coir, and 1 part perlite. I pack that into the cell then top with 1/8-1/4" pure coir, put my seed on top of that then sprinkle vermiculite lightly over the seed. The seedlings can easily take root into the coir layer and add they get bigger they reach that compost layer and have the nutrients they need to stay happy for a long time. This method works great for me!
Hi Luke. Just want to say , I love your passion and enthusiasm for all things in the garden. Your attitude and smiles are infectious. You totally inspire me. God bless you, your family and your business. Many more years of success to you!!🙏
I love the idea of using something that's earth friendly. I do all I can to live a clean life and will use it for everything in the place of peat moss. New fruit trees, flowerpots, raised beds etc. I'm very happy to replace peatmoss. Thank you for sharing.
Several types of new pepper types that were in my seed haul from you 😁 love all the seeds have gotten from MIgardener over the past few years. Keep up the great videos and seeds
I used coco coir for the first time 2 yrs ago as a seed starter mix very similar to what you made and those plants are still doing great!! Love the stuff! Thanks for the all the great info💙
Dallas Texas here!! I made this very same mix for my grow tower that I will be using for all of my herbs. Basil, oregano, cilantro, dill, sage thyme. Love your channel. I’ve learned so much from you. Keep the videos coming.
I did this mix for the first time last year to grow all my starts, tomatoes got huge and were so easy to plant. No fungus gnats! That is until I bought strawberry starts that had been outside at a supermarket and brought them inside. Lesson learned. Coco coir really does go a long way. I used one of those whole blocks and made a wheel barrow full! Looking forward to getting my onions and peppers and herbs started.
This is my first year starting my vegetables from seed. Watching your videos has given me the confidence to try. I am currently growing 4 different tomatoes: Boxcar Willie, Floradade, Arkansas Traveler, and Everglades. I also have Keystone Giant Bell Peppers and Sweet Banana Peppers. There is something so incredibly exciting about watching my "babies" grow. There is no going back to purchasing plants from any box store. I will be using a vertical planter this spring. I will be planting herbs and edible flowers. I think the Coco Coir may be a perfect fit. Thank you!
I can always count on you to provide us with the information we need for our garden. We learn so much from you. We will definitely be buying our seed starting supplies from you. The coconut information was very interesting. Thanks for explaining that. Love that your product is made in the USA.
This is my3rd year of gardening (retirement) Plan to try 12 different vegetables. Last year I purchased several seedlings from a “reputable” local nursery and ended up with a grow room full of gnat & mites. Never again. I’m all in on MIgardener products and techniques. Thanks for all your videos - Makes learning gardening fun.
I'm growing both gray squash and black beauty zucchini; 8 varieties of tomatoes: Roma, Orange Hat, San Marzano, Geranium Kiss, Costoluto Genovese, Large Red Cherry, Early Girl and Kellogs Breakfast; bulls blood beets; Crimson sweet watermelon; Waltham Butternut and Banana Pink Jumbo squash; as well as yarrow, marigolds, cosmos and several varieties of statice. I can most of my harvest for the rest of the year as it helps to save on the grocery bills. Thanks for providing such great and informative content. I love this channel!!
All YOUR wondeful seeds I purchased of course! I think it has become an obsession, but what a great obsession to have! I even order Trifecta this year, can't wait to see all the amazing home grown produce and flowers! Thank you for making seeds affordable!
I’m growing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers , some lettuce , beets , radishes, some melons , sweet corn , all in raised beds , for myself as I’m a widow and love gardening . Thank you for this video , I love learning even at my age..lol I’ve never made my own soil but want to do so this year, I’ve just been searching for a tub to mix it in ..
Thanks for the super simple demonstration. I feel more confident now! I’ll be growing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, and herbs with this mix. Yay!
I've been gardening for approximately 35 years sence I was 15 yrs old. I am a Horticulturist and plants have been my life long passion. I am constantly trying to improve my rate of success in germinating seeds and other propagating methods. I am retired now and I've loved teaching and sharing ideas with other people. This product is a new idea that I am very interested in trying out . I enjoy watching your videos. You are enthusiastic and full energy. I appreciate your sharing information. Even though I am 70 yrs old I still enjoy learning new ideas. Keep up the good work. I wood appreciate the opportunity of trying this product out.
This is my first year making my own seed starting/potting mix. I'm using both 6 packs and soil blockers. For the latter I'm adding wool pellets. Growing onions, garlic, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, kale, the list goes on. No tomatoes this year. Have purchased many of my seeds from MIGardener and the quality is excellent and the price is so reasonable.
Moving to a new hobby farm and starting new garden in central Michigan. Starting small this year with tomatoes, beans, peas, cucumbers, some squash and gourds, melons, salad greens. Excited to try my first year with MIgardner seeds.
I have switched to Coco coir in all my mixes, and it is fantastic, as well as much more economical than buying bagged seed-starting or potting mixes. The lack of sticks and wood chunks makes it great for both seed mixes and soil blocks. I really like this simple recipe, and will be using it for all of my seeds this year. I am happy that your Loco Coco Coir has been reformulated, and just ordered a batch.
I'm starting flower seeds in March for my own cut flower garden so I can bring the garden inside to enjoy. My mother also enjoys cut flowers from my gardens😊.
Hi Luke! I will be planting my second ever container garden this year using MIGardner seeds. I am still a beginner but last summer the grey zucchini, yellow crookneck squash and Swiss chard were my best crops. This year I will add a couple of tomato varieties, some Jacob cattle beans, luffa and several winter squash and pumpkins. Thanks for always sharing great advice and ideas with your videos. They have been a lifeline and an inspiration!!!
I grow in buckets & containers on my deck (critters and bad conditions for in ground). This year i want to start my own seeds instead of foot the expense for plants from various places. You are such an inspiration! I wish I had your energy to go all the way from start to finish! Many Blessings from Deborah in West Virginia!
I'm growing my whole garden from seed. It will be tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, eggplant, marigolds, kale, lettuce, basil, cilantro, parsley, plus much more that is direct seeded. Almost all my seeds came from MIgardener.. Our garden is getting bigger each year. I'm really getting into making my own seed starting mix. We are getting into seed blocking too. We had a big problem with soil knats and am hoping that a better mix will help. I love your wealth of knowledge.
Definitely would use to start tomatoes (mostly San Marzano) and peppers of all kinds. I can lots of Salsa, my own recipe. I already purchased some Teifecta +, so just need to get perlite. I already have vermiculite, too. You’re a great asset to the gardening community!!! Thank you, Luke and the MI Gardener team. ❤
Last year was the first time I've tried coco coir for some of my containers and I usually have 20-30 of them. After seeing this video I'll give this product a try for my containers which I'll be growing a variety of vegetables including peppers, eggplant, Ace 55 tomatoes, and beans. I will also use this to grow numerous annual flowers for looks and to attract pollinators. Good Luck growing everyone, Think Spring.
I made your seed starter last year. And I plant tomatoes, tomatillos, kasmiri peppers, Basil and a few other herbs. Things went great! I'm in Northern Michigan and it's a few weeks yet until I start plants.❤
Love all the info! Looking forward to this years growing season! Already started peppers lettuce cabbage broccoli and onions and beans! Indoor grow room with heat mats green stalks and grow lights! Grow Big!!
I’m growing everything! Greens, tomatoes, peppers, peas, beans, cukes, squash, melons, strawberries, mullein, etc … AND starting several small orchard guilds and a food forest this year! 🥰
Hi Luke, perfect timing on this video. I’m just starting plants for the season in m6 greenhouse. I live in MN so love your climate alike information and your cheer! I’m starting* with celery, parsley, marigolds, peppers. Soon it will be other veggie garden plants like tomato, green onion , chard, collards and more flowers! Thank you so much for your videos and on line store!
As always I learned something valuable for my garden in this video! I’ll be starting variety of tomatoes and peppers from seed, few herbs, variety of flowers, lettuce, spinach, and oh so much more. Thank you for the knowledge!
We have inventoried our garden seeds and will only need to add a few things - through your store. We have been canning/preserving along with hunting and fishing from our acres for decades. Having parents who passed down the skills to us. We are blessed with a full pantry and freezer.
I'll be growing my first order from MI gardener. looking forward to it. Gotten a lot of tips from you over the years. I appreciate all you do. Keep it up!
Waiting for my seed from you to grow lots of varieties of peppers, tomatoes, beans, flowers and a few herbs (fresh salsa, tomato sauce and dishes all summer!). Thank you again for all the great videos!
I have not made my own soil mix but I’d like to try. I want to try seeds again this year with several vegetables including tomatoes, squash and cucumbers. Thankful for your channel and your willingness to share your knowledge with me. God bless you.
I would definitely use this stuff for starting my tomatoes, which will be happening in a few weeks. The hydration process looks fun and fascinating. Keep breathin'.
I am getting ready to start growing some of the seeds that I got from Migardener last week. This includes Brandywine, Giant Belium (loved these last year!), Small Red Cherry and Jersey devil tomatoes, Big Red and Giant Marconi peppers, Calabrese Broccoli, Crimson Sweet Watermelon and Honey Rock Melon seeds. I can smell the early spring in the air. Thank that PA ground hog!!!!
2nd year gardening here, and I have had fantastic results with coco coir instead of peat moss for seed starting and potting mixes. I haven't tried vermiculite, just perlite and organic AP fertilizer for seed starts, but I do add worm castings to my potting mix too. I like getting the smaller, individual bricks because it easily fits the tub I normally use for mixing soil.
Thank you! I love the Coco coir!! I would use it to start all my seeds, like ,tomatoes, peppers, flowers etc.. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us. Have a great week.
Looks like a great mix to start all of my flower seedlings in this year, especially those flowers with tiny seeds like violas & carnations. Thanks for another informative video!
Love using cococoir! i start tons of veggies each spring. This year, so far, have 12 varieties of peppers and 21 of tomatoes! And yes, lots of those are MIGardener seeds! Thanks Luke!
I’m never tried creating my own seat starting mix. I thought it was a lot more in depth but after watching this video, I can see how easy it is. I know that I would like to try to grow Giant Crimson Red tomato, along with Megatron jalapeño peppers and bunching onions. Thank you for the easy seeds starting mix idea
@_Mlgardener well if I’m being honest this will be the third summer my wife and I have grown a garden. We had a wild boar my son and I caught as a piglet, and he lived to 20 years old, so we were unable to grow garden. After his passing, we started, and I must say that gardening has changed my life and has helped with my PTSD. and guilt of my friends, dying and in combat and not me ! One of my very close friends died in combat after being recruited by the CIA. My wife Krissy found your videos and started watching them and I’ve watched them from her account mostly but always go to my UA-cam account to give you a thumbs up as well. This past November was the second year we bought seeds from you in “bulk” I and have told my brother-in-law about you and he has bought seed from you and he lives in Pontiac Michigan, and everyone here at Ft.Liberty that I have run across I tell people how viable your seed are. But yeah. GARDENING HAS CHANCED MY LIFE !
I’m new at gardening and so thankful for all of your videos, especially this one as I start seeds! I’m hoping to grow Roma, hillbilly and red centiflor tomatoes, as well as tam jalapeños, lilac bell peppers and squash and zucchini.
I've been using coco coir for quite some time now. I just love it. Use it in raised beds and as an amendment to potted plant soil. In the past I've used biosponges for starting my seeds, but I'm definitely going to use this method to start my herbs and cold hardy leaf greens this coming week. It's more economical and you can grow tons more!
Last week, I bought a small coco coir brick, perlite, vermiculite and trifecta plus. I wanted to try making my own potting soil. I get too many gnats from store bought stuff 😓 and I’m trying to be more sustainable with my gardening practices. Anyways, I transplanted a dill plant into it and so far, it’s doing great! My goal is to get a big coco coir brick and start all my seedlings in my own potting soil. I will be starting strawberries, onions and celery soon. Then onto peppers, tomatoes, eggplant etc. next month. I can’t wait to see the results and have fewer (if any) gnats in the house! Thank you for sharing this recipe. Also, trifecta plus is amazing. It really has everything all in one bag
I'm growing tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, summer, winter squash, melons and herbs. I have used your instructions and made my own seed starting mix from past videos. I'm definitely interested in this. Seems more cost effective. Love your seeds and your commitment!
I was planning on just buying a seed starting mix this year but this looks like something I want to try with my tomatoes and peppers. Glad I came across this video!
I plan on growing 13 different types of tomatoes and counting 😅, sweet and hot peppers, okra, beans, squash, and so much more! Love the information in your videos and the different seeds I've purchased multiple times!
Thanks for the info Luke! I have been interested in this product for a while but it was too much work so it is amazing you guys are offering it now. I will be growing my tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. I have a lot of other things I would like to grow but that's just a start. I'm finding out how much I am enjoying gardening now. Thanks again!
I’ve made my own starting mix and potting mix for a couple years. I use peat moss, perlite, vermiculite, worm castings in the starting mix and add composted manure for potting mix or raised bed mix. I’ve not seen much coco coir here in central Colorado. I start almost all of my own seeds because I don't have much of a budget to work with. I would use the coco coir to start tomatoes, peppers, herbs, flowers, and brassicas
Just starting my seedling for this spring. Lots of tomato, pepper and flowers that need to get started. Loved the video. Encourages me to try making my own seed starting mix.
I’ll be starting all of my paste tomatoes, Slicer tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and my peppers here shortly I would love to be able to try the seed starting mix. Thank you. Have a blessed day.
We just moved to the country and I wasn't able to do a garden last year, but this year I am stoked to get a garden in. Peppers, tomatoes, herbs, flowers, melons, and pumpkins are gonna be grown. If not for our or community consumption then for chicken consumption. Can't wait to get it started. Love growing along with you!!
My first year to start all my seeds inside under grow lights. Starting, 8 varieties of tomatoes, 8 varieties of peppers, okra, 2 summer squash types, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, lettuce, collards, and other veggies. About12 types of herbs and about 12 types of flowers. All inside with seed starting mix. I have never tried the CoCo core but I plan too. Loved the video.
Awesome info! I'm excited that you sell that big block and your price is great! A few years ago I bought Burpee's brand and just one small brick was so expensive. All your products and prices are so affordable, and I know I can trust your quality. I use coco coir for all my seed starts, but now I know to add Trifecta, vermiculite, and perlite to it. Thanks for all you videos. I keep learning so much from you!
Planning on growing LOTS of different peppers this year and tomatoes. Hoping to make the perfect enchilada sauce and salsa at home Love your videos and advice. So happy that your channel and business keeps growing!
Would love this... we have a community garden where we feed lots of folks who are elderly or can't afford fresh garden veggies in our rural community ... salad mix, salsa, greens of all kinds, etc... Blessings ❤
I would be using this wonderful seed starting mix to start most of my seeds like tomatoes and peppers. Great idea to conserve space, which I need to do. Thanks for all you do.
Coco Coir... What else? Tomatoes I know the drawing or contest happened a while ago. but I just bought a bunch of tomato seeds from you guys and I am so pleased. I am saving them for the spring of '25 and I will now go and purchase some Coco Coir because it looks easier than messing with all the other stuff I use to make starting mix. You made this look simple with your little tub.
I am going to fill a GreenStalk with Albion Everbearing Strawberries this spring. Definitely going to pick up some Lo-Co-Coco to help bulk up my potting mix. I will also try it for all of my veggie starts as well. Thanks Luke!
I AM SO GLAD TO SEE YOU USING COCO COIR. I GOT SOME PLUS PERLITE AND Vermiculite to make plant starts for a sale in May. We just moved rural and there will be an event at a lake near here. They're having booths with local products for sale. I'm making herbal products, like skin products, etc., and my daughter is selling seed starts -- veg and herb. Our first ever attempt. I've been checking out different UA-cam channels to see if I got the starting soil right. Your recipe is exactly what I was hoping to see. THANK YOU. I better get cracking on this.
I will be using this to start part of my seeds and want to try the peat moss mix with some seeds to see which I prefer. This will be the first time I am making my own potting mix for seed starting. Thank you for all the great content. I am learning so much!❤
I'm starting a small market garden in my retirement. I would use it to make soil blocks for Amish paste, Ace 55, Sun Gold cherry tomatoes. For fun I'm trying ground cherries. Also all the peppers mild to hot. I'm in far northern California with plenty of heat and a wonderful long growing season. The list of plants is long. I'm enjoying your videos.
I would use this to start all of my seeds, like tomatoes, peppers, herbs, flowers, cukes, melons, all of that! Also I’ve been doing quite a bit of plant propagation this winter (to keep myself busy), so I’d use some of this to start some more and pot up the ones I already have. Sterile mediums are so good for that!
Seriously what will i not be growing in it. From veggies to flowers. I’m itching to start my seedlings. After watching this video. I’m looking out where to source the items you used today. NC growing Go big
Congrats! You were randomly chosen!
Please get in touch with us. I tried to email you but it didn’t work. I want to get you your coco coir. 🎉
Hi dear fellow NC gardener- let us know how it turns out for you happy growing!
I'd recommend not growing your kids in it. Just a hunch.

The large red cherry produce large amounts of fruit I will be growing more of those myself this year again

I love this idea!! I would use it to start my tomato and pollinator seeds for sure. It looks so fluffy, what a great product!

Growing so much, just made a list last night! Kale, kohrabi, salad burnet, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, lettuce, omgomg so much more!! 💗💗
I have never made my own seed starting mix but this looks easy. Thank you
I'm starting flower seeds in March for my own cut flower garden so I can bring the garden inside to enjoy. My mother also enjoys cut flowers from my gardens😊.
@_Mlgardener I love watching your seed starting videos because I always learn something new
Everything! This is my first big year starting lots and lots of seeds... which of course I ordered from MIgardener!
This will be the first year starting all my own seeds. Learned about your channel from living traditions. Will be placing a seed order soon.
I would start all my seeds with it. Love watching your videos.
I'll be growing my first order from MI gardener. looking forward to it. Gotten a lot of tips from you over the years. I appreciate all you do. Keep it up!
I’ll be planting Swiss chard, okra, a variety herbs, edible flowers, and more. Super excited to start gardening again.
I'll be using this to start all my seeds this year. Tomatoes, peppers, and more!
Waiting for my seed from you to grow lots of varieties of peppers, tomatoes, beans, flowers and a few herbs (fresh salsa, tomato sauce and dishes all summer!). Thank you again for all the great videos!
Ooooh so many things!! Peppers, tomatoes, nasturtiums, basil, dill, chives, all the pretty flowers and more 😍
Definitely learned something here today. Looks east enough to do. Thanks I'll try this with my flower seeds.
I have not made my own soil mix but I’d like to try. I want to try seeds again this year with several vegetables including tomatoes, squash and cucumbers. Thankful for your channel and your willingness to share your knowledge with me. God bless you.
I will be using it to start all my seedlings for transplanting!
I’m going to start my tomatoes, cauliflower, watermelon and lots of other things 😊
I’d really love to try this! Thanks for sharing Luke
I’ve always just bought seed starter mix, but I’m planning to mix my own this year. I can’t wait to get my onions and tomatoes started.
Herbs and veggies!!! I am excited for my big girl garden this year
I plan on growing 13 different types of tomatoes and counting 😅, sweet and hot peppers, okra, beans, squash, and so much more!
What a great simple recipe! This year I have ordered many medicinal herbs that I would love to start in this recipe!
I am wanting to try many vegs and flowers. Cant wait to try this mixture
Perfect timing I'll be growing veg herbs and annuals indoors & waiting for spring to plant them out
Just starting my seedling for this spring.
I’m here in wexford county and I will be using it for all of the seeds I have received from your grow bigger Garden green house company 😊😊
I’m starting peppers this week! Love using coco coir. Would like to use it to start tomatoes, lettuces, onions, etc. Yay for gardening 2024!
Newbie Gardener here, so I'm hoping this will help my first garden be successful.
Coco Coir... What else? Tomatoes
I know the drawing or contest happened a while ago. but I just bought a bunch of tomato seeds from you guys and I am so pleased. I am saving them for the spring of '25 and I will now go and purchase some Coco Coir because it looks easier than messing with all the other stuff I use to make starting mix. You made this look simple with your little tub.
I will be using it to start herbs, tomatoes, and peppers really soon!
Well, it's that time of year so I'll be using it to make your seed starting mix. Love your video's...they are so educational.
I will be using this to start part of my seeds and want to try the peat moss mix with some seeds to see which I prefer. This will be the first time I am making my own potting mix for seed starting. Thank you for all the great content. I am learning so much!❤
I"m just starting to get set up to seed start for my garden this year. I would absolutely give this a try
Thanks Luke for all you teach. I’ll be starting, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, and more.
I’m growing all my new seedings in this mixture this year!!!!!!
