I had the Scout 290. I recently got a Banshee Paradox V3 with a Pike Ultimate and 2.40 XR4 tires on 29 inches wheels. If you can get hands on a Paradox V3 frame you will be amazed.
Sweeeet!!! I wanted to put the Pike on this build (it's named after the mountain that I have a view of from my bedroom, Pikes Peak)... but I got a screamin' deal on the Lyrik. The Paradox is freaking awesome... but it was a bit out of my price range. How do you like that Pike fork on the Banshee?
Hello. I am a light rider at 156 pounds so the Pike Ultimate was ideal. I have the HSC all the way open (left) and the LSC 3 clicks to the right. Sag is set to 25% and the rebound 13 clicks from the slow position. It is a great fork so far on everything i rode the bike on. I live in Portland so Sandy Ridge, Rocky Point and Gates Way Green bike park are my riding destinations. Your building/riding skills are great by the way. And the Scout came out very nice.@@DuanegerZone
@frank8278 thanks for the support, man!!! I didn't start Mountain Biking until I turned 40... but I became addicted almost immediately... as soon as I got my Santa Cruz Tallboy! Soon after that I built my first bike - a 2019 Nukeproof Scout (which I filmed with a GoPro on my head. So the footage is pretty horrible). I'm dying to ride out there in the Pacific Northwest... would also love to hike the Columbia River Gorge. It is truly a blessing to live in such beautiful places that are so Mountain bike friendly.
Will there be a pump track video soon? I built a second set of wheels for my hardtail so instead of the huge inconvenience of changing tubeless, I swap wheels that have street tires, rotors, cassette, for ripping around town. Is your suspension 160? Why did you choose 27.5?
There's a couple of jump parks I'm going to take it to soon... up in Denver, there's one called Ruby Hill that I want to record... I'll try to post one soon... I didn't really choose the 27.5.... I thought I was buying the 290 on the Wiggle.com website but I accidentally clicked the 275. It would have been much more expensive for me to send it back... and I just had to get different rims... that being said I do love the snappiness of a 27.5... I currently have my Santa Cruz Tallboy switched over to 27.5, but since the Nukeproof is 27.5, I'll switch the Tallboy back to 29. I like a good mix of geometry.
At 5' 10, you could go medium or large... I chose the medium because I wanted a more playful quality to the bike. I will have to watch a video on how to put a link on the parts 😆... I'm new to UA-cam and not quite sure how to do that yet... but I will definitely do it.
@mikeburgh3956 I'm 5'10 myself... I went with a medium Scout and I have a medium Santa Cruz Tallboy... but I sized up to a large for my Evil Wreckoning. I'm pretty comfortable on all of them... but I got to admit that when I get in a sticky situation on the Evil when my dropper post is all the way up, I need to hit that dropper lever quick sometimes so I don't fall over.
@mikeburgh3956 No prob... With the 27.5 tires and the lower bottom bracket, you could probably go with the medium or small and be comfortable... it's more about your preferences. I think medium suits me over large because if I need to put my foot down too quickly on the large I need to be quick with the dropper.
Great review! I'm really jealous about the location you live in Colorado looks amazing, i dream to go there one day for doing mountain bike. tell me do you have any regrets about not getting the Scout 290 instead?
Colorado, is a mountain bikers playground! I moved here 7 years ago... from FLORIDA!!! I never knew I would love mountain biking so much till I moved here... in fact, before moving to Colorado, I was of the opinion that it made no sense to pay more than a couple hundred dollars for a bike... like many things in my life, I was wrong! As much as I love my 275 Scout, I actually meant to buy the 290 instead... When I opened the box, I was surprised to find out that it was the 275 version... Totally my fault. I bought the wrong one online. The 275 is more playful and better in tight spots.. that being said, I would have preferred a 29er for the climbing and it would bring the bottom bracket up a bit for better clearance.. but it is still the best hardtail I've ridden, yet.
@@DuanegerZone the 270 scout is a great bike, but like you say the bottom bracket is pretty low, it seems like the bottom brackets are getting lower every year, I sure hope this trend will change. Anyway great writing skills. Keep it safe.
Yeah, the low bottom bracket is my sole complaint about the bike. There are also a lot of other hardtails I would love to test out... the Commencal Meta, Santa Cruz Cameleon, and the On One Hello Dave being among them. What's your favorite hardtail?
@@DuanegerZone those are all great bikes you’ve mentioned I think that the Hello Dave might be a bit too slack for my trails. I recently bought the Canyon Stoic 2, this is the budget model and I intend to fully upgrade every component on it but in the meantime I would like to make a review with this bike, It’s my first 29er and so far I’m pretty amazed about the bike, it’s great what you can get for that price but most importantly, I think the geometry is good. I also have an RSD middlechild V2, this is a great bike it’s very playful but for some reason I keep having problems with the sliding drop outs, I do a lot of trials with it and the sliding drop outs keep brakingI, it’s too bad cause this bike is really good. I had a commensal meta-HT and is a great bike but it has a very short reach and if you want to upsize then the seat tube is too high, I really hope they will fix this when they give it its next update. I would be really curious to try the Canfield Yelli Screamy, looks like a really fun bike, I was really interested in getting it but the shipping cost for Europe is quite expensive so maybe next time.
@walken199 I've been wanting to try the canyon stoic for a while now, after I saw a Hardtail Party youtube video... Apparently they were one of the hardest bikes to get for a while... I also want to try the yelli screamy... I know those shipping costs can be brutal... For the nukeproof scout, it was $269 from chain reaction cycles. But only $68 from wiggle.com. I could have ordered it from the American Nukeproof site with free shipping, but the frame itself was $200 more expensive.
I put the Spank Spike Vibrocore bars... but since I only bought the frame and built the bike from scratch, I couldn't compare these bars to what Nukeproof put on their build. But I can say that these bars are great for me. The Vibrocore helps reduce fatigue (forearm pump). I did recently cut them down to 770mm from 800mm, which I feel is a better size for me.
Not exact same but I went from stock Horizon bars on my Mega to Spank Spike 800 with Vibrocore and it was a noticeable difference in harshness on chunk.
Honestly, it feels great... it may be a hardtail, but I would take it on any trail I would take my 2018 Santa Cruz Tallboy... with a 150mm Lyrik and my Spank Spike Vibrocore handlebars, the front is Super plush. I've done some 3 foot to 4 foot drops and I'm pretty happy with the feel.
nice vid mate! was good seeing yo upiut it together also. You need to keep up the content :)
Thanks for watching!! I have about 4 videos to edit now... including my Evil the Wreckoning build, that I should have posted soon.

I also have the Spank high bars and make those noises going up the hills!!! 🤣
Glad I'm not the only one!!!😂
It must be the combination of factory yellow Nukeproof and Spank Spike bars that zaps cardio. I have the same issue on my Mega. 😂
@@jstrahn 😂Those may be contributing factors... another one may have been me being a lazy bastard during the winter.
@@jstrahn the designers at Spank need to know that they are making our cardio really bad! No warning label on the packaging!!!
i've just picked up one of these gen 3 scouts 275, the low bb does get annoying, my local techy climbs smashes the hell out of the crank arm ends
Yeah I would definitely recommend a bashguard and crank guards
