      "CHONK" sounds easier on the ears where as "THRAK" sounds like it could get uncomfortable.

    Soldano = John Belushi, Mark IV = Bill Murray, so not a ridiculous analogy at all! Mark IV for me! One of the greatest purchases I ever made. Which is great, because I definitely prefer Bill Murray too!

    Storytime!
    I guess I was 16 and only been playing a year when Metallica's MOP came out. Loved the tone immediately, a year later heard the 87 Whitesanke album, same feeling. That's when I knew it was the amp for me. Fast forward to 89...I drove to Reliable Music (rip) in Charlotte (boogie dealer and great store). I tested the MKIIC+ and MKIII side by side for hours. I loved them both but the MkIII was Simul-Class and the C+ was the standard 60 watter. I really wanted the Coliseum model but big Al (my amp dealer) said they would have to special order it and would take some time. I wasn't going home empty handed so we packed up the MKIII and the matching metal grill Boogie halfback 4x12. The rest they say, is history.

    I've got the Mark IV-A 1x12" combo. I'll pass it on in my will. These amps have so many different voices and can be used for any genre. Once you learn how to dial it in it's glorious.

      The FM3 is so close it's not even funny. Fun trick - set the input EQ in the amp block to 250hz with the Mark series models for even more tightness on the FM3

    The Boogie sounds more focused in the upper mids. The Soldano is one of my favorite amps but the bloom on lower notes on the Boogie is somewhat magical also the type of feedback due to the different harmonic frequencies. Different topology, one more Marshall and one is "just" Boogie, very unique. Love both amps.

    Got a Mark IV this year and it was one of the best pieces of gear I've ever purchased. My only complaint about it is that the fan is a bit noisy, but once you start playing it you usually don't notice. The tones it makes are really second to none. The clean is amazing, the high gain is sexy as hell, giving you a crazy amount of control of the sound. It replaced a triple recto which I do like but it was just never tight enough for my liking, even when boosted,, and while the recto is a good amp, the Mark IV is just in another league, in my opinion.

  • @harleyhexxe9806
    @harleyhexxe9806 3 роки тому +1

    You were right on the money when you said each amp does it's own thing, and they both do them very well!
    Personally, I would lean more towards the Soldano just because I like the way it seems to have some harmonic overtones in the background, whereas the Mesa seems to have less of that and sounds a bit more focused. That's just my opinion
    I remember a long time ago at a guitar show, trying a Groove Tubes Trio preamp through the power amp of that same Soldano model and I was blown away, and then I tried the ADA MP-1 Classic after that, and was equally blown away. That was what convinced me to get the ADA. The trouble is, I've never quite gotten that same tone quality since then. That just proves that the Soldano power amp section plays a major part in the overall tone of the amp.
    Good one Leon!

Just didn’t seem like the soldano could do different. Like it sounded great. But the boogie sounded unique.

    Great comparison. I always see the Mesa pre distortion tone stack the same as an external boost pedal with TMB controls. You control which frequency will distort and then compensate this with the post distortion multi band eq. What's funny is that in amp modeling, the same principle is used to model different amps or pedals: a pre filter and gain, a distortion generator and a post filter (+cab IR). The Mark series is like an analog "modeler" as it allows to control nearly everything !

      @@LeonTodd Well Sir, I have an older 2 channel Daul Rec like yours. Love the BEAST! Great amp for the arsenal. Thank You for your advice. Maybe I'll see you at the Dallas International Guitar Show, if they continue with the posted schedule 🎼🎵🎶👍

    WHY all the Soldano hate...they are not Mark IV but they have their own thing (and it is NOT RECTO>>>IT IS BETTER)..they are not Friedman either. I own a Mark IVB so i am in the Mark camp, but if I had to choose another amp it WOULD BE SOLDANO!!!..just because it is unique and as good as the Mark!!(and like i said..better than a Recto in MY opinion) (and I do have a right to MY opinion)..lets be honest about the sounds...the Soldano CHUGS PROPER, it is not thrak...THE MESA goes KUNK..a harsher more percussive and LESS BASS DRIVEN SOUND..if you want a proper bass chug..SOLDANO..if you want the Mesa KUNK>>>MARK IVB.

    The more gear I get, the more I realize that the amp itself doesn't matter to a point. Are you going to play metal on a Princeton Reverb? No that's stupid. But, can you get a kick ass metal sound out of a Marshall, Boogie, Soldano, etc.. Yea. Can A Marshall, Boogie, Soldano do punk.. sure. Classic Rock.. sure. Cleans and Jazzy stuff.. Yea but not as nice as a Princeton Reverb though. I've been thinking about selling off a bunch of amps because while they have differences, they are minute when you are playing with other instruments.
