Back in the old days of boxing matches went hundreds of rounds because they were keeping it mainly to body shots.

Gloves protect the hand not the target.
And then if you think about the weight of the glove and tape combined along with the impact, that’s outrageous to claim it’s safer.
Boxing gloves aren't meant to protect your opponent's face, you wear them to protect your hands. When you make contact it creates micro fractures that leads to boxers getting shaky, mangled up hands.
Also gloves make the impact much larger. Instead of getting hit with a small fist you’re now getting hit with a much larger one.

No, the gloves are there for cuts, watch bareknuckle, peoples faces get mangled immediately. Without the gloves there would be barely any 12 round fights without a finish from damage.

I understand exactly what Ken is saying here. He's saying from a psychological perspective. When you have a wrap like a cast and a glove. You are more vicious relentless with your hits punches. Because the cast and the padding are protecting you. Versus not having a cast like wrap and a glove on. You won't be as determined to try and potentially generate more force with your punches. Because of this you take way more severe 🧠 damage in Professional Boxing. And, less 🧠 damage in pure Bare Knuckle. It's that simple.

Bare knuckle causes a lot more cuts though and those cuts last an entire career. So every fight you are making new cuts, and opening up old ones, while bleeding everywhere.
Cuts are not nearly as damaging as brain trauma. Cuts are surface injuries. The risk with cuts is infection, but that can be mitigated or treated. A concussion, or a series of them, cannot be mitigated.

Ken Shamrock case close the whole question on why bare knuckle fighting is much safer than utilizing gloves. He broke that down most comprehensively from 1:14 to 4:40 using punching a water filled hollow bowling ball with an egg inside as a brain with bare knuckles vs with gloves and how the glove facilitates the goal of eventually cracking that egg inside as opposed to striking that bowling ball with bare cloaked phalanges because a person's fists will be much more susceptible to damage. Therefore gloves encourage a larger quantity of striking in the long run. That makes sense. Perfect sense.
I don't know what he's talking about. I've never injured my hands hitting anyone's head. I hit very hard, and follow all the way through too. It's probably because their head moves back or sideways and is taking the most force. It's not like hitting a wall at all.

If you watch Teddy Atlas podcast he has two copies of it on the shelf behind him. Very good and interesting read into brains, gloves, headgear and long term effects of punching and case study’s.
I'm not following, I don't think the hand pain associated with a punch necessarily causes punches to have less power behind them. I really don't think it makes any difference.
It does, having been in a few street fights, and trained mma (mediocre) , there is a huge difference in power between wrapped/gloved hands and without. It's measurable, it's partly anticipatory deceleration of punches, and reactive deceleration after making contact a few times
