Hello, can you please suggest the tile adhesive to be used for internal wall vitrified tiles 600mm x 600mm size in earthquake zone of Kutch region of Gujarat. Tile will be applied on cement plaster surface.Thank you
The first and most important step in earthquake-prone areas is to ensure that the building structure itself is designed and constructed to withstand seismic activity. Before considering surface coverings like tiles or stones, the building's foundation and walls must be reinforced for earthquake resistance. Once that is in place, you can focus on the appropriate adhesives for finishing materials. A good adhesive plays two key roles in such environments: 1. Strong Adhesion: It should firmly bond the tile or stone to the substrate, ensuring the surface stays intact during normal conditions. 2. Deformability (Flexibility): It must also be flexible enough to accommodate slight movements caused by seismic activity or thermal expansion without causing the tiles to crack or delaminate. Two types of adhesives that are better suited for bathroom walls in earthquake-prone areas are: 1. Polymer-Modified Thinset Mortar (C2TE S1 or S2): These adhesives are enhanced with polymers to provide high bond strength and flexibility. C2TE S1 adhesives offer improved flexibility, while C2TE S2 provides even greater deformability, making them ideal for areas that may experience structural movement. 2. Polyurethane (PU) Adhesives: PU adhesives are highly flexible and can absorb vibrations and movement, providing both strong adhesion and flexibility. They are also moisture-resistant, making them suitable for bathroom installations in seismic zones. Both of these adhesives can provide the necessary strength and flexibility to ensure that tiles or stones stay securely attached to walls. Thank you.
You may use the suggested adhesive, important thing is that pre-existing marble floor must be levelled, intact and it should be made little rough. - Team OTF

Which type of tiles you have chosen ? If you got porcelain / vitrified tiles, these don't stick with cement. Kindly check the podcasts in adhesive play list were it has been explained in detail. Problem is that there are no training schools and most masons do not know tiling with adhesive. If you have high water absorption ceramic body tiles , cement mortar can work. - Team OTF

No. This happens due to unawareness. One just needs to add clean water. Everything it already has. The adhesive has cement in it.
