    X% of Y is equal to Y% of X. For example 43% of 25 is equal to 25% of 43 which is very easy to calculate.

    Also remember that 4% of 75 is the same as 75% of 4. The math behind this is easy... (4/100 * 75 = 4 * 75/100) through the commutative property of multiplication. So, you can "pick" the easiest way to do think about it.

      That’s what I was thinking as well. I accidentally worked out the % of opposite number, and the answer was same, I tried out with other numbers, % of both the numbers it was the same. So it’s better to work on which ever is easy to calculate. Thanks for the confirmation.,, now I am confident it works for real. hehe.. 👌😜😬

    The easiest way is to multiply ur number; for example,
    67 x 43 = 2881, and then divide your number, which will be 28.81 :)
    67% of 43 = 28.81

    Still there another easiest method than this
    Example.::
    1.20% of 40
    Just take a point from the end
    i. e. 4.0-->which is 10% of 40
    Similarly 20 %of 40 =10% of 40+10%of 40=4+4=8...
    Example 2: 61% of 30
    As said in the above example 1
    Same... Take a point before the given last number.. i. e. 3.0 which is 10% of 30..
    Now 60% of 30= 6×3.0=18
    And to calculate 1% of 30..
    We have to take a decimal point before the last two numbers..
    ie..1% of 30=0.30
    So 61% of 30=18+0.3=18.3
    Example 3: 43 %of 25
    10% of 25=2.5
    1% of 25= 0.25
    So here
    40% of 25=4×2.5=10
    3%of 25=3×0.25=0.75
    43% of 25=10.75
    Hope useful for someone...

    The key to this percentage calculation is to be good with percentage parts and fractions.
    10% is 1/10th
    5% is half of 1/10th i.e. 1/20th
    20% is 2 * (1/10th) or 1/5th
    And lots and lots of practice + your multiplication / addition skills will come to play.

  • @paull2937

    Let’s prove that x% of y is equal to y% of x. This is the same as saying 0.01x*y = 0.01y*x. Multiply both sides by 100 to get x*y=y*x, which is a true statement due to the commutative property of multiplication. This is helpful when you are trying to find for example 42% of 30. Instead of doing 4*(0.1*30)+2*(0.01*30) just do 3*(0.1*42). This results in 12.6.
    * means multiplication and x and y are variables.

    Use the immediately obvious facts that 10% of 45 = 4.5 and 1% of 45 = 0.45 to solve the problem.
    a) 30% of 45 = 3 x 4.5 = 13.5
    b) leaves remainder of 4% to solve for: 4 x 0.45 = 1.80
    c) add results of step a with step b = 13.5 + 1.8 = 15.3
    This method is generally applicable and quick to solve for any integer percentages of another integer - and explaining out the algorithm takes far more time than the actual mental manipulations of finding the solution.

    One of my favorites is the divisible by three trick, add up all the digits (and if it's still bit too large do it until it's not) and if that's divisible by three the number you started with is. Same with divisible by six but only for even numbers :)

    • @mydogskips2
      @mydogskips2 2 роки тому +1

      What? Are you trying to explain how to determine whether a number is divisible by 3, and divisible by 6?
      Edit: I guess we are saying the same thing, I just didn't quite understand what you were saying when I first read your comment, hence my diatribe and lengthy response. I just want to be sure people get the right information.
      For 3, you cast out 3s, it's easier than summing all the digits and seeing whether it's divisible by 3.
      Example: 13569
      You "cast out" that is scratch out/throw away, all numbers, or sums of numbers, that can be divided by 3.
      For 13569
      you can just scratch out 3, we know it's divisible by 3, also, 6 and 9, they are divisible, then finally, 1 and 5, because together their sum, 6, is divisible by 3.
      this is easier than going 1+3+5+6+9 = 24 which then needs to be checked if it is divisible by 3.
      And while this number/example isn't too difficult, for a number like 123,456,789 adding up all the numbers may not be quite as easy, assuming you haven't memorized the sum of course.
      By casting out threes from 123,456,789, we can scratch out the 1 and 2 as they total 3, a multiple of 3(meaning it is divisible by 3), then the 3 of course, also 4 and 5 as they make 9 which is divisible by 3, followed by 6(clearly divisible by 3) then 7 and 8 (which make 15 and is divisible by/a multiple of 3), and finally 9, another multiple of 3. That means you scratched out all the numbers and therefore the whole number itself is divisible by 3.
      This is easier than adding up all the digits and dividing by 3, well, unless you memorized the fact that the sum of the numbers from 1 thru 9 is 45(which is divisible by three).
      If I scrambled up all the numbers like, 274,813,596, that's just 123,456,789 written with the numbers in a different order, it may not be so easy.
      The divisibility rule for 6 is easy, the number simply has to be divisible by both 2 and 3 to be divisible by 6.
      So yes, it has to be an even number(the definition of being divisible by 2) and also divisible by 3.
      So if you want to know if a number is divisible by 6, just check first if it is an even number, then make sure it is divisible by 3, if yes, the number is divisible by 6.
      And finally, by the way, if you are interested, since 123,456,789 is divisible by 3, we know that 274,813,596 is divisible by 3 given the rule.
      And if we want to know if 274,813,596 is divisible by 6, we check first if it is even, which it is, it ends with the number 6, thus making it an even number, then we see if it is divisible by 3, which it is as shown above, so as it is divisible by both 2 and 3, the number 274,813,596 itself is divisible by 6. 274,813,596 divided by 6 is equal to 45,802,266.
      P.S. If you are interested.
      To test whether a number is divisible by 4, just check the last two digits of the number, if it is divisible by 4, then the entirre number is divisible by 4. example: 50,124 Just check the last two digits, in this case 24, is it divisible by 4? Yes (24/4 = 6)
      So the number 50,124 itself is divisible by 4.
      To test whether a number is divisible by 8, just do the same thing, but with the last three digits(instead of the last two).
      example: 50,124 Check the last three digits, 124. Is 124 divisible by 8? No, 124/8 = 15 with a remainder of 4. So the number 50,124 is NOT divisible by 8 (even though it is divisible by both 2 and 4) And it also happens to be divisible by 2 and 3, so also 6, which makes it an interesting number which I picked at random.
      The divisibility rule for 7 is a bit complicated so I won't explain it here.
      And I'm sure you know the divisibility rule for 9 is the same as 3, just cast of 9s. And mind you, just because a number is divisible by 3 does NOT mean it is divisible by 9. Case in point, 15, divisible by 3, but NOT by 9, obviously. However, all numbers divisible by 9 ARE also divisible by 3 (as 9 is just a multiple of 3).
      I assume you already know the divisibility rules for 2, 5, and 10, they are really easy.

  • @desertgecko4549
    @desertgecko4549 3 роки тому +1

    2:43 Or simply reverse it. 61% of 30 is the same as 30% of 61 (try them on a calculator if you don't believe me).
    Take 30% of 61. Now instead of 30%, make it an easy 10%, which is 6.1. But since you needed 30%, you need that 6.1 three times, so multiply times 3 to get 18.3. Now look at the original problem and you should recognize the answer without making any calculations.
    Put another way, when you're fortunate to have either number a multiple of 10, make sure that number is on the left, then figure how many 10% of the number on the right you need. In the example, you need three. 10% of 61 is 6.1, and three of them is 18.3.
    If the problem had been 61% of 40, this is what you'd do: First, change it to 40% of 61. How many 10% of 61 do you need? You need four of them because there are four 10% in 40%. So take the 10% of 61, which is 6.1, and multiply times four. 6.1 x 4 = 24.4, which is the answer.
    After doing a few of these, you'll see the answer as soon as you see the problem. When I see 61% of 30, I see three 6.1's, or 18.3. And I'm no mathematician. Math was always my worst subject.
    Both are great techniques.

    another "trick" is that x% of y = y% of x. For example, the easiest way to find 16% of 75 would be to find 75% of 16. That is just 3/4 * 16 or 12.

    Not so good method because it still needs some complex calculations like you showed 22×30. Also we can get 22×330
    So how can we just find these products in our mind?

      Science Help Multiplying by multiples of 11 is as easy as addition.
      e.g. 14 x 33
      --> 14 x 3 x 11
      --> 42 x 11 = 462
      (When multiplying a two digit number by 11, add the digits and stick it in the middle (and carry the 1 if necessary). 42 --> 4_2, 4+2=6 --> 462)

      @cmarley314 6 років тому +2

      Science Help With 22 x 330, we will make 66 x 11 x 10 no matter what, which is easy. 6+6=12, 66 x 11 = 6(12)6 = 726 x 10 = 7260

    EASY TIPS, PLZ try to practise and remember this •4 (%), (100%, 50%/half, 10% & 5%)
    then break it down so it’s easy to calculate
    for eg. [60% of X is (50%+10% of X)].
    It’s easy and quicker another eg.
    [15%of 10 is {10%+5% of 10}, (10%*10)+(5%*10) which is (1+.50) =1.50].
    It is easier to break for larger numbers.
    • For smaller % less then 10, like 2%, 3% 9% etc it’s easier to do it direct eg. 2% of 10 is (10*2/100), (20/100) = 2.
    • So if it’s 52% of X, break it down to
    {(50%+2%)X}. 50% is half then calculate 2% it will make 52%.
    • For 9% you can minus 1% to make it easy. Or do it direct..
    Cheers hope it helped…
    Remember to learn 50%, 10%, 5% so it’s easy to break down. below 10% do it direct 😬

      Gaming Email because I break numbers down to their factors of 10, then do any calculations I need to do, AND THEN add the two sums together.
      Ex: 29 x 63 = 20 x 63 = 1260 + 9 x 60 + 9 x 3, or 540 + 27 as it were.
      So we end up with 1260+567=1827

  • @keithwhitney7491

    I am not sure there is an advantage to this method, as my students who are math challenged seem to make math more complicated. This method would likely mess with their minds. But, I am not sure whether my approach would work for them either. I immediately took 1/3 or 33.33% X 45 = 15; and added 2/3 of 1% X 45 or 0.3 = 15.3%. I would quickly realize if I got the decimal point wrong, but my math-challenged students do not. In other words, if you can get my challenged students to understand your method (complex to me), I applaud!

    You just multiply the numbers and move the decimal place over depending on the value no?

    • @daijhaqui5447
      @daijhaqui5447 4 роки тому

      Yes basically that’s what it is. I’ve been practicing so say 28% of 25 do 25x.28 and you get 7.00 and the numbers behind the decimal just pretend they aren’t there if you get zeros so the answer is 7

    • @daijhaqui5447
      @daijhaqui5447 4 роки тому

      And for 34% of 45 do 45x.34 and you get 1530 so move the decimal two points over and you get 15.30 since the number behind the decimal isn’t 0 you write 15.3 and pretend the 0 isn’t there

    • @phillipgrisdale948

      @daijhaqui5447 4 роки тому

      @@phillipgrisdale948 yeah lol but people rather choose the hard way when there is a given short cut only thing I’ve noticed tho is when you have a 3 digit number times a percentage with 3 digits you place your decimal starting from the left then count to right
      So 200% of 365 would be 365x.200 and you get 73000 and you place the decimals 3 spots behind the seven but for two digit numbers I just start from right to left
