Your tip how to release stuck window shade spring was a great help. My shade is working normally now. Great job! Keep helping mechanically challenged people. Salam NYC
Thank you for this video!! Am going right now to try this! Been sleeping in a room with a shade hand-rolled all the way down for months. Kept trying to find someone on the internet that knew what they were doing for the old-fashioned spring shades. All I could find until now was 'how to fix the tension to make the shade roll up again', not anyone who could tell me how to fix the shade where the spring is so tight-wound that it's seized. Am hoping your instructions will work. Will report back. YEEESSSS!!! Worked like a charm! Was a little hesitant to break something, but figured if it's already broken, what do I have to lose? So kept playing with it with the pliers, and SNAP! It finally released and unwound!! (Then it was too loose, but I knew what to do about that... windey, windey, windey with the roller to wind up the fabric until spring gets tighter again.) Working perfectly! Thank you, Andrew Mazer! This senior lady will not be awakened all night now by all the motion-detecting security lights, nor will I be stuck in a dark room all day because the blinds won't go up or down. So happy right now. :D
Thank you so much for your very clear & instructional video. I've been making due with a ratty curtain over my bedroom window for a few weeks. You're right on about that really loud spring recoil - it made me jump! So glad to have my roller shade back up and working now.
Thank you sooooo much! I had been sleeping with my blinds rolled for days, cause they wouldn't cone down. Thanks to you video I fixed them!! Thanks for the warning on the kick back, it was really loud! Thanks!!
You seem like the only guy on the internet that can fix a shade. My (almost) brand new shade is stuck in the "half way up" position and I can't even turn it by hand to raise it any further. I pulled it all the way down and all that does is get is stuck somewhere further down. It isn't too loose to raise...it's just not going anywhere. Unfortunately it's a BIG shade. Any hope?
Thank you for making this nice video with such clear directions! Thanks to you I now have a pair of pliers and can fix my shades, when they're fixable which is wonderful. Plus, thanks to your great lesson, the maintenance people in the apartment complex where I live can have less need to visit me and we're all safer from covid.
That worked great. Now the shade has the opposite problem. It won’t stay down. When I pull it down, it won’t stay down. Like it isn’t catching on whatever it’s supposed to be catching on.
Really appreciate the video. I have 3 windows on the same wall and i can never get the 3 shades to stop at the same height. I can usually get 2 to be at the same height but the 3rd shade will be a half inch higher or lower. Would like to get them all to the same height. Any suggestions? Thanks you!
Place the shade back in brackets unroll about 18", roll back up remove from brackets unroll about 18" put back in brackets, should be at preferred tension
Two of my roller shades come down & up but won't stick down at any position. I don't see anything here with that problem. Can you give any suggestions please?
I suggest you tighten the shade as far as you can, BUT DON'T FORCE it when it gets super-tight. Make sure you take the shade out of the brackets and then tighten the spring with a pair of pliers. Ar some point, the spring will completely release. It will startle you with the force. Then wind the spring up again, with your fingers at first, then put the shade back into the brackets and see if the spring cooperates this time.
Hi. It seems like the spring broke on my blinds. There isn't any tension at all. When I roll them down halfway, it makes "clanking" noises. The blinds do not stay when they are rolled down halfway either. It falls down. All of this started from when I heard a "bang" sound. I went to check what it was, and saw that my blinds were rolled down completely. I suspect that something is going on with the spring inside. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :(
If that happens, it probably means the spring is broken. In that case, you'll have to either take the shade material off and put it on a new roller or get a whole new shade. If you like the shade you have, go to the hardware store and see if they can sell you a roller alone.
Your tip was awesome, thank you very much!
So glad I could help!

Mine has good spring tension but when it's in the down position I can't seem to get it to unlock and go back up, any ideas?

Thanks dude!!
Glad I could help!
How can you tell if it's to tight or to loose? Mine won't do anything
Thanks
My Roman blinds won't stay halfway. They won't lock. Is this a tension problem with the spring?
Sorry, I don't know the mechanism you have in your Roman Shade.
How to fix the roller that won't click in ??
Thx
I don't understand your question...what do you mean by "it won't click in?"
Why won't my window shade stay down
What if it worked and the spring release tention, but when I try to retighten like the first video and it doesnt worked?

How can I tell if my spring is shot?
