I Walked 30,000 Steps A Day / 100 Miles In 7 Day - Here's What Happened

- So what does it take to walk 100 miles in a week, it averages out to about 14.3 miles per day.
For me, this is about 31,000 steps each day. Obviously this challenge is not something you could likely maintain day after day, but that is what makes this a challenge, it’s difficult!
I can get about 1000 steps in about 8 minutes, so this comes out to a little over 4 hours of continuous walking.
So here is a quick rundown of how I did each day.
One day 1 I was able to get in 32,896 steps, this equalled 15.27 miles and my body burnt 4610 calories for the day.
Just to clear things up a little bit here, every day my body will burn about 1836 calories even if I do absolutely nothing, this is known as your basal metabolic rate (bmr), so the increased activity burnt an additional 2,774 calories. My Fitbit tracks my heart rate, so it is able to use that data, combined with my current body composition to determine roughly how many calories were burnt. So this is how my calories burnt were calculated.
On day two I got in 37,108 steps for a total of 17.22 miles. The total calories burnt this day was 5117.
Day 3 started out wet and nasty, which meant a lot of walking would have to take inside. This involved walking around the house and in place, luckily though the weather cleared up and I was able to get outside for a bit. I ended up setting a personal best though 41,430 steps equaling 19.25 miles.
On day four I got in 31,137 steps for a total of 14.45 miles
Day five netted me 31,043 steps for another 14.39 miles
Come day six my body was wearing down but I still got in 30,249 steps equalling 14.29 miles
And finally day 7 I punished my sore body to get in 30,144 steps totaling 14.44 miles
And just like that, my week of walking 100 miles was over, and now it’s time for me to show you the results
In 7 days I walked 234,007 steps for a grand total of 109.32 miles or about 176 kilometers.
According to my fitbit I burnt 32,943 calories in these 7 days. My basal metabolic rate, the amount of calories my body burns every day just to keep itself alive is 1829 calories a day, this means that the extra activity of walking primarily burned 20,140 calories.
While walking my heart rate typically stayed between the range of 109 to 129 beats per minute.
According to the numbers my fitbit had me burning about 86 calories for every 1000 steps.
I started out with a weight of 196.8 pounds and finished the 7 days at a weight of 192.6 pounds for a total of 4.2 pounds lost.
My body fat percentage decreased by .9% and here are several other areas you can compare.
My calves also saw some minor growth, growing about ¼” when compared the end results from my recent video calf raises for 30 days.
You have probably heard of runners high before, where after running, the runner’s body releases endorphins that cause a state of euphoria. Walking this much also created a similar effect for me, a walkers high if you will.
Before I started this challenge my resting heart rate averaged 66 beats per minute. At the end of the 7 days that number had lowered to 61 beats per minute.
My blood pressure also improved lowering slightly from 120/88 to 117/82.
And finally, something I found the most interesting, I have grown 1 inch. I have always been 5”10” for years. My back began to hurt from all this walking and when I looked it up it said walking strengthens your spine and in effect can make you taller slightly taller. Sure enough when I measured my height I was now 5’11”. I actually don’t know if this occurred over this week or not though since I don’t normally measure my height and I have tried to make it a point to get in at least 15000 steps in a day for the last year and a half. Either way at 35 years old I grew 1 inch recently.
It was a fun challenge, and now I look forward to sitting down for a bit and getting some rest. I’ll see you in the next one! - Навчання та стиль

When I was homeless in a northeastern city during the winter I did 30,000+ steps a day just to keep warm. The most I ever did was 54,000. Best shape I was ever in.
I started walking about 2 weeks ago at 321 lbs. I initially could only walk 10 minutes at a brisk pace before experiencing pain in my right hip. I would take brakes but make sure to get my 10k steps a day. Now I'm 305 and can do 2 hours straight (10-12k steps)with no pain at all. When I began, I would listen to audio books that entertained me, now I listen to books that expand my knowledge. It's fun.
You're doing great!
I swear my walks with Audible are what's keeping me most sane in a COVID hotpot
keep going man sounds like you’re doing good
Keep it up dude
Keep it up! Doing awesome
👌👌👍👍👏👏👏
Good job. I got 30k plus steps today. In Mountain terrain. I'm 60 yrs. Old and getting healthier by the day. Tired and some soreness.
Lol! Love it! I walk 22k+ steps a day and I find myself thinking thinking thinking. Very therapeutic. Great clip
I’m happy to see other people do this! I’ve been a distance runner for 7 years now. By walking to the gym, running 10 miles, walking at work, and walking home I average about 30,000 steps every day. I usually hit 110-115 miles a week. It’s the lifestyle that I love!
That’s great! Awesome job!

I did 26k steps a day for about 10 days and it definitely had great results so I can confirm everything you saw in your 7 day challenge. Walking also tends to be a great low impact exercise and when you keep it low impact it will burn fat for energy rather than glucose. Also keeping it low impact will keep your cortisol levels down to improve that fat burning and reduce fat storage. Walking is the best exercise.
Cheers cheewy
Deepak R that height growth by one inch was little too much
Walking helps loosing weight...if you don't take too much calories a day 🙂✋
30000 steps a day , a big pizza at noon, a cheeseburger+a cake at dinner and goodbye , you're even gaining weight 😋👻
Diet+ walking or doing 2h workout a day : great results , but hello yo yo effects when the diet is over 😋
@@silentnature1079 We only gain back the weight if we go back to eating more calories than we burn. Its not like we magically gain back weight for no reason. Its by going back to the same destructive habits that made us gain weight in the first place.
@@silentnature1079 you can actually eat whatever you want and more of it. You just gotta burn more calories.
You should just become a mail carrier we do this year around.

I got a new job last fall and generally walk at least 20,000 steps a day 5 days a week. Over 7 months I lost over 35 pounds. I could lose another 30. We'll see what the rest of the year brings

@@divyanshkesary649 look into that... search online. Physical activity is said to stimulate growth. And at age 16, you are most likely not fully grown. I grew almost 2 inches from 16 till 21. Did you walk it all at once?\
I been doing 20000 step every day, but 10 and 10 in morning and evening. You do 20000 in one shot?
I am the same age as you and have always enjoyed walking. But Never thought it could make you taller by an inch! I am taking up this challenge! Great video!👍🏼
About two months ago, I decided to change my lifestyle. I stopped eating like crap and drinking soda and I started walking at least 10k steps a day. I've lost 24 pounds in those 2 months! The weight is just falling off me and it's great. I'm about 40 lbs overweight right now so I'm hoping to keep the momentum going. Walking is so addicting! I love being outside and having my "me time". I love it and it's such an easy exercise. I spend about 2 hours outside walking everyday in the morning. It has to be first thing in the morning or it's too hot outside. I live in Texas so you can imagine the heat and humidity.....😂😂 I'm drenched in sweat from head to toe by the end of my walk. It's all uphill then downhill, rinse and repeat so it's pretty strenuous but still relatively easy.
Good for you, hope you can keep it up!
I really appreciate all of the detailed metrics shared and before and after comparisons. So many video creators don't do this and its frustrating because thats how you know if it was effective or not. I got a lot out of this video.
Great video! I started doing 10 miles/day in quarantine for the first 45 days. Then I couldn’t move for two days! Just super tight (did no stretching). I started stretching and ended up doing 13.5 mile average days for the last 30 something days. I haven’t quite reached 100 mile weeks but I’ve gotten close at around 94 mile weeks. It’s been challenging! I was feeling incredibly tired, more so than I realized possible. I haven’t been commuting to the office so that’s 2 hours a day I found and the gyms are closed so that’s 1.5 hours a day plus staying in the house all day is not something to look forward to lol. I also walked rain or shine which is more of a mental game then I realized. It’s been fun and challenging and needless to say I’m doing yoga now in order to keep the mileage up! Stay safe brother!
How much weigh did you lose? And did you gain any muscle mass? Thanks
Imagine being a roman soldier, they where trained to walk 20 miles a day in full kit for weeks on end (50+ lb's) those guys must've had athlete level fitness. Excellent video.

Wow!!! I’m impressed. I love walking for so many benefits (time in nature, better sleep, stress relieve, creative thinking as I walk, exposure to natural light). I typically don’t get anywhere close to 30k steps a day but you’ve motivated me to bump up my regular walking time and distance. Great video!!!

I didn't really intend for this to be a walking challenge so I didn't really have a starting weight. The last time I weighed myself was at the doctors right before lock down. I was 206 lbs and now I'm down to 193 lbs. Although, if I had to guess, I had put on at least 5 pounds during lock down. So lost somewhere in between 13-18 pounds which is a huge range I know. In between sizes right now but my old clothes have me looking like an early 2000s rapper.
@@RickyGarcia_Learning other then the weight loss are there any other side effects you experienced?
I do approximately 45.3k steps per day for 5 days of the week at work since it requires me to walk overnight. Most people I work with can't do what I do, so I always get overtime, thus putting in more steps for the week. It's definitely a rewarding feeling when I get the day off, and most people would argue that I should quit, but honestly, I enjoy it. I can see most people will have a problem with it.
I totally get it! I average about 35k step a day mainly due to my job but I’d never change that! When it’s overtime season I can clock about 56k step in a day!
Your feet don't hurt?
This a beautiful thing! Good for you Man
Thanks man!

I remember doing a challenge of walking 10 miles a day for 30 days back in the early 2ks, the author of the book claimed you could lose 8 pounds of fat in that time span without dieting. I did the whole 30 days, one day i would walk twelve miles other days eight, i just had to put in the miles by the end of the week. I lost exactly eight pounds and dropped an entire size from my waist area which was very noticeable for just losing 8 pounds, in the process sadly i developed plantar fasciitis despite changing foot inserts, sneakers ,etc.
I lost 3 dress sizes in 6 weeks eating 1500 calories a day and walking 20k steps in the form of 3 x 1 hour walks. Going from US size 10 to size 4.
Easiest thing ever.
I agree about a walking high! I walk 15,500 steps a day (7.5 miles for me), and I love it! 66 years young also!
I walked half marathon everyday for 15-16 months. Lost 70pounds (really bad diet and general self-control). Now, i walk 25000 steps a day and just love the exercise. Yes, it is time consuming but you have to make schedule.

I went to SoCal for a vacation and used walking as my primary mode of transport around the town, sightseeing. I did a little over 50 miles in 3.5 days. Considering I’m mostly sedentary at other times, I was wondering if I’ll be too tired or in pain. But surprisingly I was completely alright at end of each day. But then, I came back to my town and went back to being a couch potato, doing 500 steps a day 😔
I got a walking under desk treadmill about 7 weeks ago. I have averaged about 75 miles per week for 7 weeks now. I have lost about 16 pounds (from 194 to 178). My height started at 5'11" and I assume it is still the same. I realize that a treadmill walk at perfectly level ground is not the same as a "real world" walk so I wouldn't equate the 75 miles per week as the same as 75% of your 100 mile week, but it's a good fraction nonetheless. And I've been able to do it for 7 weeks now. I am not entirely sure it is sustainable because I have started to develop a sore achilles tendon in one foot, I might not be able to do this pace indefinitely, or maybe my body will catch up. I'm hoping for the latter.
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Enjoying your videos. I can’t lie.. slightly envious of your calorie burn.. lol. I walk about 15,000 steps a day.. age 59, 130 lbs.. I burn about 2000 calories a day.. 😩. On the other hand.. this last week I’ve been doing closer to 20,000 steps a day.. and I feel blessed I can still walk so much. 😃
Since 2015 I have walked on average 15,000 steps per day and not changed my diet. originally it was all at sea level later at altitude. Over that period I went from 106 kgs down to 84 kgs and it’s now settled at 88kgs . I am just under 6 feet 2 and now 60 years old . The biggest weight loss was at the very beginning. I also had a long standing knee injury which I got skiing and it didn’t really stop me . Frozen veg when I stopped . My tip is get up early and do it first thing . Originally I lived in a very hot place so I started at 6.00 am everyday

Great video, I enjoyed it. Walking is great. You should try it with a weighted vest and see if there is a big difference
I love walking. I have done it my whole life. 8-10 miles is pretty easy, and 5 miles is just a casual stoll. I might have to try this.
Rain shouldn't have stopped you from getting your outside walk. I find rain doesn't bother me at all unless it's windy. For outside exercise, I find wind to be the only real constraint, unless it's just pouring down rain or a blizzard. Today, I did an 8 miles forest trail (and a four mile walk to get to the trail) in the rain here in New York. Sure, I got wet, but it was OK. Just took a nice hot shower when I got home.

Simple Man I did the challenge but I felt like yours was executed much better 😂 I decided to do the challenge over and re-record.
I was just playing with you 😀 Anyways congrats on your accomplishment, it takes a lot of work, great job!
To all the walkers on the comments, what do you do while walking? I listen sometimes audio books, but recently i am using the time to memorize information, i just memorized all states and capitals of USA and México, another project is to learn basic french while walking with my wife. So any other suggestions? Last point, while walking with my wife we have great talks about many things and it is the time we organize stuff like vacations 👍🏼😃
I walk with my wife most of the time and it’s a great time to bond. When I’m by myself I usually listen to podcast about Bitcoin lol
I enjoy the scenery
Working for Royal Mail in the UK I have been doing over 100 miles a week for months now and I don't seem to suffer much apart from the occasional blister. I love how much fitter I am now.
Have you noticed weight loss and feeling better since you first started?
Great video! You're awesome!
I have a Confidence Fitness treadmill that is very small and only about $200 on line. I put it under a table that I had raised up with by adding extra wood pieces under the legs. With this setup it is super easy to get in lots of steps WHILE YOU ARE WORKING OR JUST SURFING THE NET. When I first started working from home, I walked 15-16 miles a day, by accident. One day, just for the heck of it, I walked a marathon. Yes, I was in reasonably good shape before, but the trick is to set it to a pace that is not sweat inducing and just stay on it. Keep walking!
Lol this guy is crazy awesome love it !🤣
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
Omg i walked just 5 km this morning and am feeling like truck hit me hard and his walked 30'000 a week wow well done
steps vs. km but yes he walked a LOT (was it 176km in that week?)
I walk 3x a week usually 6.25miles per walk. Walking 30k steps is alot. Not sure if I could do it yet but I'll get there. I completely respect what you've done though.
this channel is great man
Thanks man!
@@SimpleManChannel on the app I'm using I did 17000 but burned 720 calories
almost 2 months lockdown, i just working on my bed everyday, oh my
Hmm, I walk to work and back and take an evening stroll- about 8 miles day in total. I think I can do this :D
Awesome video!
Did you really grow an inch in height??
I'm 19 and I feel so short but no matter what I do, I cant seem to grow tall... I just hope this will work for me!
Last October,, the 17th I strated a job at Walmart in Maintenance. After the first day, I was totally done and decided to count my steps. The shocking result is a total of 3702000 steps. I only worked 5 days per week so the average is around 20 miles per day. I watched your video because I am 59 and am afraid that I will fall over one day. Lol. I agree, it is very hard and on one day off I am not moving one inch. At least, I get paid about $3 per mile Lol. Thanks for the video. Loved it.
