  • Both shot styles have their pluses and minuses; but which should you choose and why?
    I'll explain the two shot types in this video, give you examples of each, and show you some shooting for them as well to help you choose which direction you should go!

    The pushing toward the target with my bow arm has really helped me fire my hinge an thumb release wth less movement..

    Excellent advice and information. I had been an executor when I started out and ended up with horrible target panic. It actually took about 2 yrs to finally overcome it and how I did was change to an aimer without releasing, over and over and over. I think incorporating a bit of both types would be great but I haven't been able to do that as of yet and I've been shooting for 30 plus years...lol

      I can't do both either lol I find I'm best with focusing on aiming for sure. Thanks for watching the video!

    Superb advice. Just realised I'm an executor from a comp on Sunday. I was executing the shots better than the guys who came first and second but my groups were no where near as tight. Now going to try aiming more and a subconscious release. Hopefully should be better 😁

    Absolutely spot on. I’ve always been more of an aimer. I subconsciously execute my hinge by relaxing my hand. But in the last few months I’ve been focusing on executing and my groups have opened up significantly, generally with more right misses. My theory is being a right hand shooter, I’m mentally “looking” at the release and taking my focus off the center of the target and focusing on what my right hand is doing.
    I shot a group at 60 yards focusing on burning a hole through the target. Had all 3 shafts touching in the center….swapped back to focusing on executing and my groups were 5” and shifting right of center.
    I dealt with severe target panic early in my target archery game. Luckily I overcame it but I’ve always been terrified of it returning. I will say that there’s a huge shift toward conscious activation of the release and for me personally, it negatively impacted my shooting.

    I shoot barebow and I think you just point out my mistake that makes my grouping very scattered and inconsistent. Thank you.

    Great video again. Myself I think Rod Jenkins summarised it extremely well defining the shot as a two man job. Number one doing the aiming, number two executes the mechanics. All is well till number one starts checking on number two......
    For me, focusing on aiming is the only way. Just started with a compound after five years of trad, the trigger release seems to work against back tension.... Will try a back tension release very soon👍🏼
    Cheers, Thorsten

    Would it be safe to say that an aimer is more static and an executor is more dynamic?

    why do archers let the bow rock forward after the shot?

    I keep trying to be an executor but I honestly shoot the tightest groups as an aimer.

    Super advice - as usual from you, and a very good summary! When I started to see the video I said out loud "Of course I am an aimer, what else" and then I watched the video further and realized that I am completely an executor. :) As some said before me, I probably should try to be more of an aimer an less an executor.

      Thank you for watching! I had a lot of people surprised with their results after watching. I think it's more my perception of what each word means and how it's applied though.

    Robert, can you do video on how you build your target arrows? I don’t even know where to start as far a types of arrows, nocks, bushings, points or even the type of glue for the points. Thanks

    In your opinion can you be both?

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  5 років тому +2

      I think you can be both over time going back and forth. I think you can merge the two in a sense but your main focus will be on one or the other. Bouncing back and forth with focus between aiming and executing I think will cause hang ups and issues aiming.

    Do you ever do any coaching ? I have looked all over to pay for an Archery coach someone that could just spend a couple hours helping me break things down and point out what I need to change

    Thanks to you I have realised that I'm an aimer when I was trying to be an executor, I have always had better shots when my shots had a longer shooting time than a shorter one, because I could not stay steady on target with lower timing

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  5 років тому

      I'm the same way!

    There's no confusion...whether your a aimer or executor it really depends on your ability and established skill. Someone like myself doesn't experience floating on target. Over 60yrs of archery shooting I've developed a very steady holding position over target with no movement. For those archers who feel floating on target its really the same...its when you develope your subconscious and Conscious mind work in tandem together...for some it becomes apparent when training a three month 10,000 arrow training regiment. For others it's far beyond that...develop a routine and follow thru becomes the keystone of your individual process to be able to repeat success over and over again

      I can only dream of holding solid I float all over the place and dip low and yes my draw length weight every is good I’m just a twitchy shakey person by nature nothing I can do

    Your Sequence broke down under pressure the type of release is irrelevant.

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  5 років тому +1

      For me at that point the hinge was a release I had shot for multiple years exclusively so I felt so comfortable with it that even if I did get tense it would still fire. The process I had in place for the thumb button is for sure what broke down and caused me problems, but it was release related. I pulled out a hinge and didn't have the issue anymore.
