- On Jan. 19, 1991 Maj. Tullia (Callsign: Stroke 3) in his USAF F-16C was shot at by a variety of medium range Iraqi SAMs(surface to air missiles) during Gulf War 1. Amazingly he evaded all of them. Today we run a challenge in DCS inspired by this event.

@@grimreapers How do I always not find these things... 😂
Awesome stuff guys.
@@ericgrumbles447 When I read your comment I thought of 2 Iron Eagle type videos they've already done. Just have to look to find them
Hello valued cap, I hope you're also doing very well
If that is your true species
When he landed, they discovered his chaff dispenser didn’t work.
😐😬🤬
You've got to be shitting me?
Awkward...
Saw that on a documentary. Insane
I don’t have a PC so I can’t play games like this but I live vicariously through your channel on flight Sims and I loved this episode was amazing. Thanks for letting me fly with the guys.
Insane challenge. One of those events where if we didn't have the combat recording nobody would believe it happened. My understanding, after watching a former F-16 Pilot analyze the footage, Maj. Tullia dodged 2 SA-2's, made a shallow bombing run on his assigned target, dodged another 2 SA-2's, and then 2 SA-6's while exiting the area. All without dropping his fuel tanks, dropping below 9,000 feet, and not pulling more then 6G's.
2 Fighters were shot down that day and I believe both pilots were captured and then spent the rest of the war as POW's.
Just Simba things. He's just OP at this point.
I wish I was OP lol. thanks for the kind words and also watching
I think he also didn’t have chaff he was pushing the button for it but there was something wrong with his dispenser
Simba = Mr. Showtime! 🥰
never failed to amaze us!
"Do you Smell what the Rock is cooking" Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching
"Stroke 3 Defending"
Didnt he do all this without dropping tanks and keeping both his speed and altitude? Thats a damn pilot right there
Nice video, I’d really recommend doing it again mixing up the SAM sites, SA-6, SA5, SA-3, SA-5, they all have different tracking and firing behaviour which would mean pilots wouldn’t be able to predict the targeting behaviour as easily. I’d say fewer would make it.
I keep on thinking about that airmen chose self-immolation. I dont even want to know more about it. Its too depressing.
WOW!....what an intro! watched Simba's "dodge" 4 times! well done all
PS it's mainly to get "all sweaty" watching this..haha
the camera caught my good side ;) thanks for watching
This was a really fun video to watch. Thanks, GR team.
Excellent video all around; thank you!
I enjoyed this very much. The showing of different techniques pilots use to defeat air defenses. Well done.
Emitt Tulia's flight lead Stroke 1 did an interview with the fighter pilot podcast where he talks about what happened during the strike
I haven't watched a video of yours in a week and man that first comment "best recorded event on the internet" your sarcasm is the reason why I come back. We need more sarcasm in this world.
Sarcasm best 'asm
@27:33 quite possibly some of the best DCS/GR footage on the youtube to date
Like to see the same mission in different types of Aircraft and see which one is the best.
It's the hitiles you want to worry about, Cap.
Amazing video great work all
Just another case of Simba: People's Champ
and he was carrying and delivered bombs
Major Tullia's chaff and flare dispenser malfunctioned but he didn't realize it until after he had landed. It wasn't his day to die I guess?
Another fun fact about the events that happened in real life is the countermeasures jammed on his f-16 so he evaded 6 missiles through pure maneuverability
I remember the release of an audio conversation between a RAF Tornado's pilot & his navigator/REO during the Iraq War. Flying low & fast through a mountain range, the pilot said, " Jesus 'arry, these bastards are shooting at us... ". Talk about being cool under pressure whilst still being very British !
The IRL pilot did it because unlike the sim, actual radar escape maneuvers (classified of course) and chaff are VERY effective. We could break radar lock with one maneuver in a helicopter.
Truly deserves a wow
Noice Vid GR!!😎👍
I do believe that the original event, the planes countermeasures box was jammed, so he dodged all those sams with no countermeasures available.
This is a great test setup you should do the same thing and change the air craft for go for a SED challenge
The SA-6 a ramjet that burns through the central motor core once the solid rocket fuel is exhausted. It has four air inlets spaced opposite of the fins.
Thanks
interesting fact: BMS had this audio clip as the menu music for a while
Cool
All those beeps and rings... Reminds me of waiting in McDonald's for my Big Mac Meal! 😂
I dont remember if you already did it, but during the Malvinas conflict of 1982, a F28 from the Argentine Navy and a C130 from The Argentine Air Force took off from Puerto Argentino/Stanley evading frigates, gun fire and as I recall, the C130 evade a AIM 9 from a harrier and a missile from a navy ship. it will fun to reenact! Maybe you can doi with an imaginary escort of IA58 Pucaras only so Cap can fly his beloved Pucara.
Cheers Guys
Mariano
Dude I was just watching your f22 v Houthi jet vid
..... aaaaaaaand once again, Simba wearing his Teflon underpants.
teflon underpants, best pants!
Simba, still the badass. . .
Would love to see the TacView of this...
That dodge! - just - wow
The Grim Reaper Gauntlet advantage : it doesn't involve landing
Landing too hard for us.
This explains why Simba is the People's Champ.
I heard from Sandboxx that the counter measures of the f16 dodging missiles are not working. The pilot only noticed it after he landed
Oooof!! Fly man go boom!!
#FlyFan
When the pilot got home he found out his chaf and flares didn't work
I didn't know surface-to-air missiles.
Could still track an aircraft after it misses. I assumed that it had one shot to hit it. And if it missed it was over that wasn't incredible to watch.
Don't want to be locked in a scissors with a sam lol
Depends on missile type, but theoretically possible in the right scenario.
idk about real life but in dcs the SA-6 has a max altitude somewhere in the 30 thousand feet range, atleast with jamming
Roger, that may have played a part in the fast high run.
@Grim Reapers Could you make this avalible to the public, I'd love to try this, also with different aircraft. Thanks for the awesome entertainment.
Already linked in vid description
@@grimreapers Thanks, I just tried it and was shot down by the first SAM missile........🤣🤣🤣
Simba sandwich lmao
and im the meat in the middle.
Jesus, that evasion. wub u.
did you restart miz between each flight so they could re-arm?
yes
Why is it that Russian missiles look like spaceships from "B" movies? 😂
Hey hey, don't disrespect silly scifi B movies like that, the Thunderbirds were really 😎
Right. Iron Eagle 4 is an amazing film lol @@KaizokuSencho
How do you make the box appear on the hsd?
They are steerpoints
@@grimreapers oh I see :) Thanks for the answer!
the question we must ask is: when will simba be nerfed or is GR getting a mass buff in next patch? 🤣
lol I get nerfed every day when I practice with the Comp team.
I'm sending Jimmy "the wrist breaker" Jones over to Simba's house next week.
👍
Love video but I suggest to get the real feel for it, don't let your other pilots see each other. Make them go in without seeing the previous runs. The real mission pilot didn't have 3-4 other flights doing the same mission before him and adjusting his flight plan. You got killed Fire did much better. Fly seems like he gave up cause he had to go. Dark beat it but based on previous runs. CannonBall Tried a different way since the first way worked. Simba did great considering the parameters. That SAM footage was INSANE. WOW WOW WOW
Wow
Airframe limit for the F-16 is I think 800kts (Simba would probably know better). Indicated, of course.
At sea level, air is much thinner up there, allowing the jets to go even faster.
@@Laerei as mentioned it's IAS. Altitude is irrelevant, the structural limit is defined by aerodynamic pressure not speed. It's a technical restriction, but it's not generally advisable to test those for extended periods, and exceeding it by 200+ seems essentially suicidal.
It's a widely known fact that US fighters can't cross purple lines
I also heard this.
Is pilot fatigue modelled in game? (Sorry - I mean in simulation) 😅
Not that I know of.
Someone pls disprove, what if you just continuously fly vertical circles between 10k and 20k ft alt throughout the course. Force missiles to continuously change vertical and lateral lead...
It does actually sort of work BUT, you never make an actual progress getting somewhere.
Can you do Independence day reenactment with f16 vs ufo?
Only a Brit would know Jesus H Corbet lol.
Top Notch Thumnail
SAMwedge
What aircraft did Simba fly irl ?
He works with F-16 IRL.
"OH BOLLOX"
No nerding but Gulf war 1 was Gulf war 2 else there wouldn't habe been a Gulf war 3, 4 or 5 and 5.1 - just sayin....
Technically legal best legal, question mark?
I believe so.
Shot every time someone says footage 🥃🥴🤮
Unfortunately your speech detector only lets me say Thumbs down
