Imagine a modern battlefield where one side completely dominates the skies, while the other side has either lost all its military aircraft or faces such a high risk of getting shot down that they don’t even dare taking off.
That would mean even tho the ground forces might be advancing into enemy territory, they would be completely eradicated off the face of the planet by thousands of tons of bombs dropping onto them from planes in the skies - and there's nothing they can do about it.
That’s basically the essence of air supremacy, a strategic advantage which is so decisive that it can turn the tide of wars and dictate the outcome of entire campaigns.
And this hasn’t been the case only on the modern battlefield. From the pioneering dogfights of World War I to the stealth and precision of modern aerial warfare, the goal of air supremacy has been present for decades.
In today’s video, we’re gonna talk about what air supremacy actually is, and how it is achieved.
