I’m so excited for this series! I just adore these tiny inaka towns with so much history. I know the culture is slowly disappearing from these places with all the attention on bigger towns and cities so I think it’s so important to document and share it with people all around the world ☺️
Nagano is definitely on my list of areas to visit next time I go to Japan. I appreciate you showing a variety of aspects of the area and will be sure to try them out when in the area. Looking forward to the following videos in this series! Thank you
Excellent video Q! I love learning the history of the post towns. My favs were the frozen falls and the temple on the hill. Beautiful scenery and great interviewing skills! Love it all! Great job! :-)
What a lovely video and what beautiful places! Nature, history, spirituality, food, local crafts and you! A perfect mix. I'm really looking forward to parts 2 and 3.
Super informative. Always great to hear your history lessons and I like anything to do with the Nakasendo. As a keen hiker I hope to do the trail one day. Thanks for the tips! :)
Yeah- I really want to go back and walk a long portion of it. This time of course there was something of a schedule so I was jumping from place to place, but when I can I want to just go back and spend a week or so walking!
Great video Quinlan! In fact, I enjoy all your adventures. Nagano looks like a beautiful place to visit. Hope some day to visit there. Thanks for taking us along.
Good to see you down my neck of the woods! Interesting and informative video. I especially loved that lacquerware place. Nakasendo really does have some beautiful old towns. If you go back to Kiso Fukushima again make sure to visit Kurumaya. It’s a really old historic soba restaurant over 300 years old. Bet you’re off to Magome Tsumago next :)
I really appreciate it when onsen managers give youtubers permission to film inside the hot springs. Otherwise, we would have to go grab a ticket to Japan to find out haha
Awesome video. I have walked the popular Tsumago to Magome and explored those two postal towns but would love to see more. Looking forward to the next part.
Great video Quinlan. I loved the nakasendo highway when I visited in 2018. We only walked it for a day but the post towns and scenic forests made it a wonderful memory. Can’t wait to watch the next 2 in the series.
Reminds me of when I bought hand-crafted chopsticks from a really old vendor in Narai! I wish I had more time to visit Kiso valley, especially to visit the lesser known small towns 😁
wow...that was soo beautiful. I remeber the icefalls but you saw so many more great things I looove those old traditional wooden houses and I think I need like a yearlong ticket for that onsen haha. Man I wish I could've tagged along and seen (with all senses :P (yes thinking of the food and sake lol)) it all too...so much Fernweh :( and you're spoiling us with so many videos right now hah! XD But i love it. Also, it is in an Area that i did intend to explore on my next trip so I'm really hoping I can pick up some good tips assuming that my plans are not changed by you (and a few other youtubers) constantly uploading such really really cool things about the north i keep wanting to visit, too D': sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't just aim at shorter but more often occuring trips to japan. *whines around some more* we need teleportation invented...NAO!
Good job, Quinlan! It seems like every couple of months some regional tourist board has a bunch of YTers feature their areas--how did you get contacted? It would be nice to see a behind-the-scenes video of how this works and how much you get out of it, both monetarily and in driving eyeballs to your channel.
Oh, that's an interesting idea. More long-form things like that I may put into a podcast format, as it's easier to describe things in detail that way. I'm working on doing an experimental podcast starting from next month just for Patreon, and if that goes well and the workload isn't too crazy I'll make a public feed as well.
Beautiful! I wonder if it's good to explore this trail in the fall months or October and November? Would there be other people or would it be a pre-frozen wasteland?
I love these episodes on the history and culture of Japan - can’t wait for the next two installments! Thank you!
Awesome! I was just in Nagano to see the snow monkeys, one of my favorite places in Japan, love the snow, geothermal mountains and wilderness there
Definitely! I need to explore more of Nagano. Still so many places that I have yet to visit!

Yeah, I love this area and these little post towns as well! I think you'll like the next one in Tsumago, it's such a beautiful town!
@@GoNorthJapan I'm looking forward to it!!

Thank you soooo much! Appreciated!

Excellent video Q! I love learning the history of the post towns. My favs were the frozen falls and the temple on the hill. Beautiful scenery and great interviewing skills! Love it all! Great job! :-)
Hahaha, those were my favorite locations as well!! Thanks!
Snow-clad Japanese cedar & cypress forest, gorgeous frozen waterfalls, thumb up. Review of local cuisine, onsen, another thumb up. Oh, wait... 🙄
Such an interesting video, can't wait for the next two!
So beautiful. Thanks Quinlan
Beautiful! And really nice to see more of the culture of the area, instead of just one street and a shrine!
It's so nice to see that some of these old towns are managing to survive!
I just woke up and saw the notification. Always gotta click when Quinlan uploads, it's a rule.
Thank you!
What a lovely video and what beautiful places! Nature, history, spirituality, food, local crafts and you! A perfect mix. I'm really looking forward to parts 2 and 3.
I love this area. Rode the train from Matsumoto to Nagoya during fall 🍁 colors were incredible!
Ah, I've never been there in the fall. That sounds amazing!!

Love winter Nagano! Thank you for the great video as always!!
Absolutely stunning ! Thanks Quinlan
BTW, try Bulgarian Yogurt, it is the best and we are very proud of it.
I love Bulgarian yogurt! It's actually quite popular in Japan!
@@GoNorthJapan I know :) If you make another cooking video someday, please show what yogurt You buy.
I really appreciate it when onsen managers give youtubers permission to film inside the hot springs. Otherwise, we would have to go grab a ticket to Japan to find out haha
Loved this! Looking forward to watching the next videos of this place in Nagano!
That soba looks so good, my favorite part of the video, of course everything else was good as well but that part was the best for me haha.
Awesome video. I have walked the popular Tsumago to Magome and explored those two postal towns but would love to see more. Looking forward to the next part.
It's so interesting seeing so much history in just one town in japan
Yeah- these little post towns on the Nakasendo are just overlfowing with history!
Great video Quinlan. I loved the nakasendo highway when I visited in 2018. We only walked it for a day but the post towns and scenic forests made it a wonderful memory. Can’t wait to watch the next 2 in the series.

Thanks!
Those soba noodles looked delicious 🤤
They were!
Really enjoyed this video. Might want to post links to the other two videos in this miniseries. Or did I miss them?
Great idea, I'll add that to the description of all three videos.
So beautiful! Is it suitable to hike between tsumago and magome part of nakasendo in February
Yeah- you could do it with warm clothing and boots!
Beautiful! I wonder if it's good to explore this trail in the fall months or October and November? Would there be other people or would it be a pre-frozen wasteland?
I bet with the fall colors you'd be in good company the!
Where do people find accommodation in the Kiso valley? No listings on Airbnb or Booking
Cool video ! which month was that?
I think this was in March.
have you ever seen an angry Quinlan, neither did i
Hope this gets to you, heard about the earthquake, know you are way inland but hope everything and you are ok!!!
I'm fine, thanks! Was quite a shake though! Bunch of stuff fell off shelves..
I am sort of sad that I started watching before the other two parts were released. 😅
