I still attend races in Truro as I now live in Halifax. Sure I can livestream and bet online. However, there's something about the magic of the horse and the excitement of watching them go. There's a different kind of rush when you feel the rumbling in the ground beneath your feet as they go by the grandstand. Having owned, trained and groomed my own Standardbred horse in Fredericton, NB a few years back, there's a special connection between you and the horse. A good friend said it best, " No matter how hard my day is and what goes wrong at work, I know that once I get to the track and get the horsed out for a jog, that will all slip away". It is truly a relaxing and therapeutic hobby. I have met and remain in touch with many amazing people in the horse racing industry. I am grateful for all of it.

Yeah until One Alpha One and Kadena make their debuts and rewrite all the record books. They'll never be a better dam than the freak of nature Mission Brief.

Probably Chin Chin bred to Bret Hanover was the reason.

I think Albatross' 1:54 at Sportsmans Park in 72 was quite a feat

Looking forward to One Alpha One and Kadena making their debuts. Unfortunately no one will remember the Beach when these two break every record in the record book. They'll never be a better dam than the freak of nature Mission Brief.

I remember watching Mach three running at the meadowlands
    Awesome horse
    Sbsw also a great horse
It’s a shame Paul McDonald ran him 3 wide in the pace to lose his only race

Why didn't the Beach do a time trial at the Red Mile with a real driver aboard? How close could the Beach have come to the magic 1:45 flat mark with Campbell, Lachance or Ron Waples senior aboard? It's a crying shame we never got to see the true potential of the Beach just like Cam Fella with Pat Crowe aboard. An indignation to the horse himself.

The world will never know how fast the beach could have run with a real driver aboard... 1:45 flat?

I think I'll stick with my original assessment. Mile racing is interesting to a point, but nowhere near as interesting as cups racing like in the southern hemisphere. It's like only having the hundred meter dash in athletics. It's still a great spectacle but there's a reason why so many people prefer the 400 or the 1500. It's a shame because US-bred horses in Australia have proven themselves more than adept at cups distances. Search 2012 Interdominion final and you'll see what I mean.

Ron Waples senior could have driven the beach and taken a shot at a 1:45 flat time trial at the red mile. I just cringe when I see that inept bum Paul MacDonell aboard the Beach.

In a match race between Cardigan Bay and Bret Hanover, Bret Hanover would simply embarrass Cardigan Bay. Remember the match race between Bunny Lake and Worldly Beauty? Well the owner of Cardigan Bay knew better than have his horse demolished by Bret Hanover.

As a horseplayer going on 38 years I see the goverment playing favortism toward casinos which have poor odds and rely on their customers to lose in order to show a profit and all there gaming is 100% gambling. This is not the case when wagering on horses hadicapping is a art form so the risk of losing is decreased by ones skill level. I can honestly say I could do more at a racetrack with $300 than a casino gambler could with $3000 because of my system and skill level. For someone who dosn,t understand this art form and just wishes to gamble understand this your odds are much better than any casino so if you know nothing about this art and just want to gamble understand this fact $ for $ horse racing holds the best odds for winning even if your guessing but none the less the odds are better in racing than any other form of gaming fact ! Living in Windsor Ont. where we no longer have a track and have to play at a bar where you can,t hear the races and then they shut the light outs and a band starts playing makes it hard to concentrate yet the odds are still brtter than any casino. Casinos only benifit goverments and the casinos not the players. They say are econmy is bad and it is because shame because our goverment is bad . Conpare how many jobs they created to how many they have destroyed since 2007 to now clearly proff they don,t care about the people.

I'll clue you in pal I've been a horse player for 46 years and I can tell you the races at Greenwood and Mohawk were 100 percent fixed or rigged in all the decades until they brought in slot machines. They told the drivers or jockeys don't push the slot machine players out the door with fixed harness and thoroughbred races.

Maybe if you bet the Canadian races on the American side of the border without making more than 1,000 dollars a race but not visa versa. The government's tax take up in Canada will bankrupt even the best of the best handicappers.

@thebimshow It's a pity we never got to see him race over cups distances. American harness racing is so one-dimensional and predictable. I really struggle to see the spectator value.
