    • @wailingalen
      @wailingalen 7 днів тому +1

      There are relatively few real photos of these outer solar system bodies. Our Earth spacecraft have only passed these bodies a very few times, some only once like Uranus and Neptune, and its moons.
      As an astronomy nerd I didn’t realize this until recently and I’ve been reading and now watching astronomy stuff for over two decades.
      I believe they want to portray the images in cgi to better illustrate, as a lot of these images are grainy

    As far as I am aware we aren’t able to drill deeper than perhaps 1km on earth. So if the ice on Europa is a minimum 6 miles thick, how are we going to get down to water level? 🤔

    • @seanreardigan2013
      @seanreardigan2013 5 днів тому

      Just ice you won’t need a drill just a outer casing that can heat up

    • @sparkesman1980
      @sparkesman1980 5 днів тому

      So how would you heat up the outer casting of a drill that needs to reach a temperature with prolonged hotness that can penetrate 6 miles of rock hard ice? Europa is so far away from the Sun that Solar power wouldn't be adequate either. I think that the best they could achieve would be to maybe land a rover on the moon, take a few photos, maybe analyze some ice crystals and then that would be it. Flying around the moon on the way to Jupiter or on to Saturn is one thing, but being on the surface is a completely different scenario.@@seanreardigan2013

    • @sparkesman1980
      @sparkesman1980 5 днів тому

      @@seanreardigan2013how would you heat up the outer casting to the extreme temperature that would be needed to penetrate Granite type ice 6 miles thick? Couldn't rely on Solar power to generate that type of heat as the Sun is too far away

    • @Michael-em4if
      @Michael-em4if 4 дні тому

      @ perhaps. But we all know that permafrost can be extremely hard and that’s nowhere near 6km. Anyway reading more of the article it says they’ll look for organic life in the geysers (they spelt it geezers 🤭). So we won’t be seeing any fish type creatures shooting into the Europa skies 🤣

      @@peacepoet1947 "Water molecules form in interstellar space by chemical reactions between hydrogen molecules and oxygen-bearing molecules such as carbon monoxide. @zajournals excellent explanation. There is water in space as well as alcohol, clouds of it. There is water in rocks. Melt rocks, and it releases water and other compounds. We have learned that comets are not snowballs as once was believed to have brought the water to Earth.

    Also, geezers are old people, while geysers are jets of hot liquid. That you pronounce them the same is weird and off-putting. The clipper is not going to pass through cranky elderly folks, but rather, through plumes of steam. We pronounce those, "GAHY-zurz."
