Man I loved this game, even had a system to beat the scissor paper Stone bosses, it was you pick what they are first then what they did second iirc.

Spent many an hour on Alex Kidd in Miracle World on the Master System 2. Loved the game.
Played the remake on ps and it was far harder than I remembered. I must have played it A LOT back in the day in order to get good at it.

Alex Kidd was a far better game than Super Mario Bros, IMO. It's not that I mean to trash SMB and the cultural impact of the game, it stands tall for what it achieved at the time. But when you compare them today, you realise just how much more variety was in Alex Kidd. Back in the day, I didn't actually like it much. It was always a last resort, when I'd played too much of the other games I owned. But it grew on me many years later, when I got into retro gaming. I became a bit obsessed with trying to beat it, and ended up really appreciating the work that had gone into it. I think I'd have to include it in my top ten games. Maybe I'm basing that mostly on the nostalgia I have for it, but I do think that it's one of the most underrated and under recognised games of the 8-bit era.
