Great video Paul. Congrats on making the trip, you deserve it for the vlogging you've done. What a super thing it will be to get the channel cut in water up to the new bridge and some extra headroom on the Green Mill Bridge.
Very interesting. Number of times I've walked along that tow path and never knew that colliery tunnel was there.Ill be looking for it next time. Hope you've had a good Christmas, all the best for 2025 👍👍
I remember a famous football commentator,Barry Davies who once, having seen Frannie Lee's grinning response to scoring a goal, say " look at his face, just look at his face"..... your face,Paul, whilst steering the boat, reminded me of that😂😂
Lovely ride, and such a different perspective. It's really coming along, and I'm looking forward to see it back open under the replacement bridge. The building however is not in keeping at all. Bringing back a canal, a major building like that really should make at least a nod to the past. Reclaimed brick or stone would have been far better, but a "box" it seems to be.
Great stuff Paul, I crossed the CC doing part of the Chesterfield Round Walk between New Whittington and New Brimington last week. I thought I could have followed it all the way back home to Drakeholes in North Notts.
Hey Paul I go for a walk past hollingwood hub on the chesterfield canal with my support worker and I watched your Vlogs about grand opening of the bridge near where the canal is going to be restored to renishaw in the future them vlogs you have done have been fantastic and merry Christmas and happy 2025
Now that you've been at the helm of a narrowboat on the western section of the Chesterfield, navigation will never be the same! 😮 At least for you, anyway. 😏 Looks like a great time - I'm only giving you grief because I'm envious, as there are not exactly a lot of opportunities to cruise on a canal boat here in the States, let alone be at the tiller. 🎄🎄🎄🎄
Rather you than me paul. I do find locks fascinating though, I have been on a narrowboat as a passenger i could not steer one & park one for the life of me! 😅😅
Hi there. Have been boating on the canals since 1970s so glad you at last have got on board. Greatest form of relaxation going at 5mph . Take care. Caroline. Have you been through Osberton estate on the chesterfield by boat?
love the old canal but that steel monstrosity should be knocked down and rebuilt with bricks or stone same has the horrible steel bridge. No workmanship in anything nowadays.
Decent watch mate, I’ve been looking forward to this for a while
Had a walk over the new bridge and around past the new building earlier in December going to be amazing when it’s done 👍

Have a great xmas day Richard.

That’s me and my mate on the first corner fishing
You catch anything in the end after the boats had finished going past?
@ not that day but a few days later my mate had a 21lb pike and I had a couple of small pike
most of the boats we hired were 60fters which i find easier than 40 footers. In the wind the smaller ones spin round. caroline.

Was a great experience. I'm thinking of swapping the steering wheel out on my car for a tiller.

Hahaha yes I will leave it to the experts. Though I suppose it's like driving. Easier once you're used to doing it.

Hi Caroline. I've only ever been through Osberton on foot on the towpath 🙂. Hopefully one day.
