  • Well everyone, consider this the first of many in a new format I'm trying out for Vivit. This style of video won't replace the song-based animatics, it's simply meant to accompany them to convey a clearer story while honing in some specific character interactions.
This specific video features out favorite terrible, terrible person, Samuel, and his teenaged child, Vida, following one of many arguments they've had over the past months. Parenthood has undoubtedly not been easy on this man, especially when dealing with a kid who refuses to take no for an answer (although maybe one could argue after everything else, this is a light form of karma).
This video went through so many hoops to get uploaded. As in, literally had a computer break on me whilst in the middle of creating this, level of hoops. But posting this was deeply important to me, and I couldn't be happier that it's finally up.

me when i see vida talking: 😸😸😸
me when i see sam talking: 😾😾😾
i really like vida! (their name meaning life is an…interesting juxtaposition considering Everything That’s Happened So Far haha) vida reminds me a bit of ariel in the little mermaid characterization wise-probably with all the being a teenager and not understanding why their father wont let them do something and saying its too dangerous.
the entire sequence of 1:37-2:02 gave me christmas kids war flashbacks omg. this is one of those rare moments where i feel a little tiny bit bad for sam but also not.
(also, somebody likes ROAR’s music 🤭)

I'm glad you picked up on the name thing! It's admittedly a carryover from a much, much earlier draft and was thus intended in a different way, but the current irony of it at least makes it worth it.
I actually never thought of the Ariel connection, even though it's pretty spot on-The Little Mermaid is one of my all-time favorite disney films, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a subconscious influence there that I just never quite processed.
I will admit pulling on some of those emotional strings from the Christmas Kids animatic was 100% intentional, and the backing track I used was intended to enhance that. ROAR's music was something I fell in love with after the original version of the animatic, and over the past year it's just embedded itself into the DNA of the story. Trust me, this will not be the last time I use their songs, lol.
Thank you so much for your comment!

It's okay, I think any video simply featuring Sam warrants negative feelings.
