Nazko Complex: Quesnel BC's Active Volcano! Flyover of Crater Lake!

- Thanks to co-worker David Curtis and his drone we were able to get this great flyover one of the Nazko features and it's aptly called Crater Lake. In this video you will learn a little bit about the Nazko Volcano complex in BC's Cariboo wilderness, it's still active and could theoretically wake up any given time. There are several volcanic features in the area that have formed as the continental crust has moved over the hot spot over the eons. There are also two other mountain ranges south west of Nazko that were likely formed when they once sat over the hot spot. Fortunately, it's not a volcano complex whose eruption is likely to cause a great deal of devastation. Maybe someday we'll get to see some activity from a safe distance.

Music was from an old album I have called Fight to Win by Bakunin's Bum
I lived in Quesnel for 10years, almost to the very day. It's beautiful there. Moved home last year. I miss the little old town. But I'm glad to be home too. Bittersweet! ✨🌠🤍🏞️🕊️🙏🕊️⛰️🤍🌠✨
Quesnel is certainly world class with the Fraser and Quesnel rivers merging (my spell check wanted me to spell "queerness" instead Quesnel,
Absolutely too cool
Really good info. Always wondered about that volcano.
I had no idea! Thank you very much, Joey!
Thank you for the info. More to explore!
Excellent report Joey
Very interesting! I remember learning of the Ring of Fire circling the Pacific, but had no idea the activity reached that far East.
I think mantle plumes like these are what makes Yellowstone the supervolcano it is, but lucky for us 1 cubic km of pyroclast from our small vents won't end life in the Cariboo.
Well done.
I grew up around there...kleena kleene, used to be a timber cruiser for yes as a young man out of Alexis creek and Williams lake. Great video, info5and very interesting. If your thinking of doing another, speak about aniham peak and all the obsidian there ?
Interesting!
I live in Quesnel, and I'm fascinated by this area's geology. Can the cinder cone and crater lake be accessed by the public? I'd love to do some hiking there and maybe take a few drone shots. Cheers.
yes, there's a trail to the top, before the big fire it as not so moonlike
Very interesting. A few weeks ago we were up on the Adam’s Plateau (between Shuswap and Adam’s Lake) and we could see a ‘pyramid’ way off in the distance and assumed it was the Nazko Cone. Good video so new subscriber. Also going to share on our Facebook group British Columbia Stories
you'd be looking towards Clearwater possibly, where there is active volcanism as well. Thanks for the shares, I'll check out your group...join the one I run called Interior Weather & Wilderness Watchers.
No it wasn’t Clearwater. I joined your group a few days ago!
@@SaltyBeaverExplores nice, I hope you find the group helpful. The Nazko Cone is hard to see, because of the hills, unless you are driving right up to it...almost 100km west of Quesnel. So quite far from Adam's Plateau. Not sure what you were seeing.
Great video. Your footage is of Crater Lake which is 7.6 km south of the Nazko Cone. Is more information available about the location of the eruption that occurred 7200 years ago? What was its location?
One thing this has done is open a can of worms, there were three events in that area...I'd like to know which one was which and how that all worked. Certainly seems like there'd be a demand to find out more and make more videos on the topic.
Quesnel will be over the hotspot in anywhere between 2.5 and 4.1 million years, according to my calculations. So there is no need to start packing. :)
by then the valley will have been destroyed several times over I'm sure haha
