I wasn't a musician, but when I had my mental breakdown and lost my job, I decided to teach myself to learn to read sheet music, you know, just to pass the time, stay sane and because I've always kind of wanted to be able to. And in that pursuit, got to listen to a lot of classical music, which in turn made me want to start learning piano. Been taking lessons now for 6 months and loving it :) Also just bought my first violin, but piano is main priority, and my teacher is awesome. Either way, my point is that classical music is not dying, and young (34 is young, contrary to statements by family members) people do like it. Just a last thing; when I started playing piano, my family laughed at me for 2 hours, mocking me because "what on earth do you want to do that for? You can't play Slayer on the piano!" (I listen to heavy metal, among other things), and they didn't seem to grasp the concept of listening to multiple genres and enjoying them for what is unique to them specifically. Like, of course I didn't start piano because I wanted to play Slayer on it you dipsh.... Then again, didn't do it to play Chopin either, because holy balls does that make you depressed after a while hahah
Yeah Chopin can be very romantic and nostalgic, and afterwards I'm like 'why do I feel nostalgic all of a sudden? everybody in my family is doing fine, me too, so where does this come from...? Ah yes Chopin of course, quick quick let's play something else! But anyway it's really great that you taught yourself to read sheet music and to play the piano. Playing classical music has incredible healing powers! (er, romantic russian composers excepted, maybe. Prokofiev and Shostakovitch are just brutal. no offence)
good for you! that's so nice that music gave you a hobby :D your family needs help, btw, making fun of someone playing the piano is NOT ling ling thank you very much
That’s awesome! Anyone can do anything with practice and societal success doesn’t hold a candle to your own personal successes. Musical can be very therapeutic and hobbies are a great way to improve mental health. Don’t let your family rob you of any fulfillment you get from music❤️

No. 4 still gets to me: "Geniuses are born, not created." Wow! Bach walked 250 miles to hear Buxtehude. Mozart had Haydn as a mentor. Einstein had Talmey... Even the brightest minds ever had some help, and they practiced, they spent countless hours thinking, writing even mentoring others... Potential geniuses are like seeds, they won't grow without water and sun. Both nature and nurture.
OMFG so truuu my friends seem to think it's based on talent too. Then there's this one friend who's constantly trying to impress people and always hints at me that she's more talented, and she'd be better than me if she practiced as much as me I'm like gurl it's the amount of practicing and hard work u should be proud of, not the amount of born talent!!!!!

I had a Latin teacher who loved classical music. He also taught literature. We could chose a literature module to follow each semester (four teachers so four modules). He decided to do a module about classical music with the focus on Bernstein (the composer from Westside story). His module was so popular that more than 30 students (the maximum) enrolled so not everyone who wanted could follow his module. Around the time the module was finished, an orchestra playing Bernstein's music was in our city. So the teacher bought 10 tickets for students who would like to go there. He had to buy ten extra because twenty of us wanted to go. I was sick that day, slept the whole day, had head ache, everything. Didn't eat anything. But still went there, no way I was gonna miss that! Concerts are usually quite expensive here. As a student you get some discount, but even then tickets are like 35 euro. I'd rather go to the cinema three times with that money (and still have some left to buy popcorn with). But now that the chance was presented, we all took it with both our hands! I think that this shows very well that classical music is also popular among the youth and not only for bald and old people!
as a figure skater, i listen to a lot of classical music in order to find inspiration for programs edit: another thing, classical music formed the basis around a lot of heavy metal.
Worst thing is putting on Beethoven (or it coming on on sirius or whatnot) while you study. One does not just keep Ludwig as background music, it grabs you by the lingling and *demands* you pay attention to the music.. while the pencil idly doodles in music. Or maybe a really bad caricature of LvB.

I fell in love with classical music over time, but the flute introduced me to classical music. 10 year old me, loving the flute, and my school killed my love. American Public schools suck at keeping music and art departments alive. The football team needs those super expensive gear and shit. Sad but true!
It's the same thing in my school and I'm in a private one, they prefer sport than music. Our music department is dying currently and even the teachers just gave up. The principals are literally shiting on us. Because of this, I have to stop music in school, but I'll not give up. Music is my whole life.
I also picked up the flute when I was in middle school, and it was a very fun class and the teacher was great, it first taught me that classical music was so diverse, unique and amazing
My country focusses on dance and playing the harmornium (it's a really odd piano instrument thing) then anything else. They won't even give a frick if you are good as Leonardo Da Vinci in art or Good at anything else, they will just bully you that you can't play that crappy piano thing on steroids. Even the music teachers and typical parents will bully you. I got bullied and I still remember it.

Hi, I am a Jack of All Trades casual musician. I first started playing piano when I was 5 and I taught myself. When I was 8, my music teacher taught us how to play snippets of classical songs on a recorder, and when I was 11 I played the flute. My brother was always a big guitar player, so I learnt that too, and now I play the ukulele. I can't play FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLEBEE on any of these instruments, but I CAN play most of the Legend of Zelda songs. I am in love with classical music and would love to play more of it, but because I switch instruments so often, I have a hard time keeping up with all of them long enough to learn things like cello suit no. 1 prelude on the guitar with a pen, you know? I think music is so integrated into human lives because it is the true essence of raw emotion. I get feels from everything I play, even 4 chord songs. My point is, EVEN UNTRAINED PEOPLE CAN LIKE CLASSICAL MUSIC. IT IS WONDERFUL AND HAS OUTLASTED TIME FOR A REASON. AWESOME SHIT, IT IS. And a lot of pop music "borrows" from classics anyway

Well I think, that Bach need to compose also many cantatas Today....
Well technically your brain controls your finger but...😂
I wasn't a musician, but when I had my mental breakdown and lost my job, I decided to teach myself to learn to read sheet music, you know, just to pass the time, stay sane and because I've always kind of wanted to be able to.
Prokofiev and Shostakovitch are just brutal. no offence)
I feel for you girl
but daaaang nobody is trying to read this much.
good for you! that's so nice that music gave you a hobby :D
your family needs help, btw, making fun of someone playing the piano is NOT ling ling thank you very much
That’s awesome! Anyone can do anything with practice and societal success doesn’t hold a candle to your own personal successes. Musical can be very therapeutic and hobbies are a great way to improve mental health. Don’t let your family rob you of any fulfillment you get from music❤️
Very nice to hear that, this may sound cliche but in my case music helped me through a lot of stuff. Not a violinist btw i play acoustic guitar :D.
Hope you are doing well!

Same here bro
I wish I had a teach like that

The four chords from Canon in D can be heard in many more modern songs. Most notably, Green Day’s Basket Case.
Metal is the successor to classical music.
hi fellow figure skater! fs is actually what got me into classical music lol
When I listen to classical music I am not calm- Most of the time it actually hypes me up and excites me
Worst thing is putting on Beethoven (or it coming on on sirius or whatnot) while you study. One does not just keep Ludwig as background music, it grabs you by the lingling and *demands* you pay attention to the music.. while the pencil idly doodles in music. Or maybe a really bad caricature of LvB.
You know the piece is awesome when you start conducting/pretending to play
It's good to advertise classical can provide both excitement and calm, and more. More is better. That there's something for everyone.

Brett is so in love with Hilary i can FEEL IT through the screen
