Over Christmas we visited family in Birmingham, Alabama. My favorite was the 'March Route Walking Tour.' I always love learning about the history of a city.

I’m from the Birmingham area ! Just stay around the downtown, uptown , 5 pts south , south side , lake view , Avondale , Shelby county , 280 area ! Don’t wonder of into the west side , east side an north side areas

5 points is generally safe. It's a very trendy area with lots of young people. Homewood and Vestavia Hills are great too, just a bit more suburban. If you enjoy a more urban lifestyle, then Highland Park/Avondale/Downtown are good choices too!
