Ray Harryhausen, the grandfather of modern special effects. I’ll never forget seeing the Kali statue coming to life in one of the Sinbad films as a kid.
He Didn't Invent Stop Motion but he was perhaps one of the greatest Animators ever the pioneer was his idol and mentor who truly made stop motion Willis O Brien
CGI is a far better visual animation solution when done well like Ray's films were done well. There are many examples of Stop Motion being done poorly just like CGI can be done poorly.
I had the pleasure (and honor) to meet Ray Harryhausen once. He was an extremely kind and gentle man. I got him to autograph my laser disc copy of Jason and the Argonauts. I still have it and cherish it.
It's always saddened me a little bit Harryhausen had to wait literally decades for his contributions to the world of special effects in cinema to even really be recognised. Special effects as an industry that is now so completely established with systems, processes, and practises, was effectively built on the DNA of what basically one guy was doing with clay puppets in his garage for around thirty years.
The dragons death, like that of the Ymir in 20 Million Miles to Earth, saddened my brother and I, because we felt a deep empathy for them being harried, and abused. Ray was my hero and idol, for many decades. Still is in my old age. 👍👍& 10⭐ for all his great work in films, that entertained kids and adults around the world.
When I was a kid we loved Harryhausen movies at the kiddie Saturday matinees. My brother and I would play that we were monsters and would imitate that kind of slow paced stop-action animation. The neighbors must have thought we were two kids doing Kabuki theater!
R.I.P Oh Master of the Movie Monsters! How you made our lives and dreams so much happier! An injustice that you never received an Oscar for VFX (though you did get a special one!)
I always liked the Harryhousan movies with dynamation creatures,my favorite is the dragon in 7th Voyage of Sinbad,it's sad they killed the dragon at the end of the movie.😢
"The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" is good fun, but "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" has some of the best stop motion in any movie. "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger " had some impressive creatures as well. Impressive feats considering no CGI involved.
That's Harryhausen at his best, whatever he made; he always improved upon. The Skeleton fight? Awesome, certainly, then he made six more and had Seven of them roving around murderously at once in Jason and The Argonauts 6 years later.
Nothing sticks in my mind as vividly as this man’s creations, truly timeless.
Movies wouldn't be what they are today without HH.

No one will.

Ray, you are the best editor and your invention is a 1000 times better than CGI

He is a genius the late Ray Harryhausen and very intelligent.
Growing up watching these films was awesome, if I ever have children, I'm going to show them the films Harryhausen made.
Ray Harryhausen was a true master of his craft. We miss you!!
It's so great to hear Ray talk about his process and creative choices; he really was a brilliant artist and it's great to know his influence lives on!

You made the movie that made my childhood amazing! My Dad and I still watch it!!!

RAY will always be an icon his movies were and still very well done, he brought movie magic to the scene RIP RAY.📽📽🎬🎬📽🎬
Loved watching these as a little kid in the 90s. Never scared me watching them but I had LOTS of very vivid nightmares about the Cyclops chasing me.
OMG me too! Nightmares right into adulthood of the cyclops chasing me. Same with Medusa.
The combination of Ray Harryhausen & Bernard Herrmann created 1 of my top 5 all-time favorite movies. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad is Magic.
It really can't be overstated how much Herrmann's score does for the film. It's some truly beautiful music.
Legend.
One of my all time favourite films. Loved it ever since I was a kid.
Just showed this to my 4 year old daughter, and she loved it! Up next: Jason & the Argonauts 😊
This video presentation by Ray about the behind the scenes is gold.
Genius and a Legend!
Special effects wich are really special.
Dynamation!!! Ray harryhausen the king of stop-motion animation.🦖🦕 thank you Willis O'Brien.🦍

My brother and I did too @@poetcomic1 So we wouldn't be scared by Dad, when he made all those monster sounds as we went to bed. 👍👍
Simply brilliant movie making, light years ahead of CGI, thanks for the YT upload!!!
The best movie ever !
My all time hero
And now Kathryn/Parissa has passed away. The last known survivor of that film is gone.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this childhood classic.
Master of all Monster Makers!

Oh, thank you! Thank you, thank you!
Ray, the Dynaman
The real King Of Monsters
Every time I play a fromsoft game, I think of this movie.❤
I didn't know that you were still alive you should make more stop motion movies I really like those movies my favorite has to be the dinosaur movies
22:33 The Three Stooges body hitting the ground sound effect !!!!
That skeleton…I wonder where it is now? It should be in the Smithsonian. They all should, really.
I was sorry to close with the death of the dragon. Poor thing.
All sea of thieves is missing is an island full of monsters like 7th Voyage!
Would give my right arm for that little skeleton figurine haha
🐘vs🦖
Took "Stop-Mo" animation n made it art ... he paved the way n laid the foundations for ILM , WETA etc to make epic movie effects for epic movies
