It brought out an element of the story that I always thought was interesting: Lovecraft's compassion for the Old Ones. I found that while reading it years after watching John Carpenter's The Thing, which is apparently based very loosely on Lovecraft's story. The reason I mention this is that after I watched the film, it occurred to me that everything the monster does could be in self-defense. It was buried under the ice for 100,000 years, and then humans dig it up. At the end of the movie, someone says "it's going to die of the cold now," and McReady says, "no I think it wants to freeze."

It’s like an Eldritch Location rather than an Eldritch Abomination! All “cosmic horror”, of course, but people don’t often think of spaces as being the source of “madness”-I should know lol, I’m living in one & it just now occurred to me that I’ve truly lost it hahaha
What an excellent script, drawings, and recitation! Despite the light-hearted verse, the narrative actually captured some of the dreadful majesty of the HPL novella. And the totally whacky drawings were a perfect counterpoint to the story's grim proceedings. This is a small masterpiece of Lovecraftian lore, one which I suspect the author would have fully embraced.
The whole premise is so outrageously absurd. What a briilliant idea! Right up there with Pooh versus Aliens. Or the Tin Tin at the Mountains of Madness. Hope he does The Shadow out of Time soon.
Gotta say, I prefer Ivankovic's poetry to Seuss's. Seuss's rhythm has this combination of sing-songiness and irregularity that constantly betrays my expectations and makes it feel like the stress or rhyme aren't where they're supposed to be, or that a phrase is too long or too short. This poem on the other hand captures the sing-songy vibe while also making the rhythm seem just right in almost all cases.
I think the difference is Ivankovich is committed to the style, whereas Seuss is just doing his thing without having to worry about not being convincingly Seussian
It's been a long time since I read At The Mountains of Madness, but I didn't remember a detailed account of the city's history. Was that portion extracted from other Lovecraftian works?
This reminds me of the book "My First Kafka". It's exactly what the title implies: some of Kafka's stories with children's illustrations. I don't think that book is quite suitable for children. But I imagine they'll like this.
That sounds familiar. If you like that you'd probably enjoy Masterpiece Comics by R. Sikoryak. He does Kafka as Charlie Brown, Dantes Inferno as Bazooka Joe Comics, it's great! I reviewed it a week ago ua-cam.com/video/RoBCGXr3uQA/v-deo.html
A far better Adaptation than 'The Color Out Of Space' Film! (Any of them!) This would make a great companion piece with my H.P. Lovecraft themed Pop-Up Book!
They missed a good opportunity to illustrate the city to look more Seussian, like an ancient Stygian Who-ville. Cthu-Whos!
LOL tbh...I think Seussian can best describe Lovecraftian architecture.
You forgot "cyclopean"
He made his own eldritch fantasy art before his breakout success with Green Egg and Ham!
It’s more suitable than we realize
