I made the same mistake with hand planes about blade bevel up or down. Learned last weekend when I searched how to set my hand plane. I learn from mistakes and I’ve made lots.
I picked up an old spoke shave at a flea market but could never get it to make those long curlies like you do. Will try some of your sharpening tips and see if that helps.
Thanks! I've been using mine with the blade upside down!! I wondered why it was "grabby". My wife's cousin in Iowa turned me ont to your videos. He is a great craftsman and makes some great handles. he even gave me six bolts of ash and hickory that he harvested from his property. I have made one handle. probably took me a total of 5-6 hours to do it. its just okay but I'm going to keep trying. I guess practice makes perfect. - Tom
Helpful video Rod as I have 2 spokeshaves that will need sharpening. One is the Cdn Tire brand i have yet to use. The other is a vintage 2 piece wooden one. Definitely agree with your tool buying policy at Canadian Tire since the store is only a 5 minute walk away from my house LOL.
Hey - and you'll be happy to know the Canadian Tire spoke shave of mine works great - seriously. 1/4 the price of lee valley, but runs like its a cadillac!
Great video rod 🤘🏻not sure about the princess auto spoke shave but it looks a lot like my Stanley colors everything it may be one of those hidden gems at chinese outlets
A DOT worker fell off the shovel he had been leaning against and broke the handle and just left it where it broke. You will notice it had never been used except as a prop.
Great info Rod. Beautiful peavy handle

I feel your pain! Good to know about the planes.

Great to hear! I will be using it to fit the 20 inch hatchet handle I got from you.

You may be right. Perhaps I should just dust it off, sharpen it and give it a try. Maybe in a month I'll be doing a video on how great it works!
