I love this from the doctor, the thinker and wise man. It just shows his vulnerable side. He didn’t even think about her parents potentially being gone he just wanted adventures and fun.
this is the kind of line you don't get from the 13th, like imagine that scene but he goes "sorry river I'm too awkward to say anything so I'm just gonna walk off"
I was never too keen on this episode. Basically, I loved the ending - I think it was a great way to send off Rory and Amy. But the rest of the story was just average. I still think the Weeping Angels were superb one-off villains that lost their creepiness a little more each time they showed up. By the time the Angels wound up working for Division in one of Chibnall's Flux stories, they were no longer even remotely scary or interesting.
This episode has a strong soft spot in my heart, although not flawless, cough...the statue of liberty...cough cough. It still holds up for me, it maintains the angels brains, without having the need to reveal more about them. Although the vortex manipulator one, im not sure about, pretty sure the vortex manipulator would just take the angel with her, like in the sound of drums.
Been eager for this. I’ll never forgive Moffat for using the Statue of Liberty as an Angel. Also, never really had any feelings for the Ponds either but I must say when they went, for the first time, in God Complex, I was a little sad to see Amy and Rory go but at this point they’d both died so many times I really couldn’t have cared less. I almost assumed they were gonna come back next episode via a portal or something.
@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 true true but nah this was one step too far. I can forgive Rory coming back from the dead 😩 I can forgive Clara defeating a God with a leaf (I can’t) but the Statue of Liberty passing through the city without 5,000,000 people dying makes me laugghhh
I really loved Amy in particular, but Rory was pretty neat too even though his status was a bit weird (their relationship evolves weirdly). But I really loved how she was played and it's one of the reasons that got me into doctor Who in the first time actually.
I had the impression that Amy's future was never decided until the audience saw her make choices, because of her growing up with the crack in her wall (i.e. the computer from Beast Below not knowing she was married or how she had to remember the Doctor to bring him back at her wedding).
There are 3 main reasons I do not like this episode. 1. They would not have needed to build up Amy and Rory's departure like this had they just never seen the doctor again after God Complex, or maybe after Power of 3. 2. Additions to the weeping angels. The only justification for the statue of liberty becoming an angel is that the image of an angel becomes an angel. That means that somehow they graft their images onto statues and that's how they reproduce. However, the battery farm is in direct conflict with Flux where it is established that touching an angel twice causes you to disintegrate. I understand how they can explain that. It has always been that if the same Angel touches you, then you go back to the same point time. If that is so then being touched by the same angel probably inevitably causes you to meet yourself and then talk to yourself and cause you to Marty McFly one of you out of existence. However, if the writers of Flux had just researched the previous episodes about angels they would have figured out it was impossible because Moffet (the creator of said beings) already admitted you could be touched by the same angel and not disintegrate. 3. River's broken wrist. How did the doctor transfer regeneration energy to her even tho he was on his final life? It is established in Mawdryn Undead and in Magician's Apprentice, that a machine is necessary to transfer regeneration energy. I have the same complaint with Let's Kill Hitler. The entire fact that River Song needed to have regenerations so she could be the daughter of two people who look nothing like her irks me to no end. All they had to do was reverse who was dying in Let's Kill Hitler. If the robot had killed Melody and then the doctor wasted one of his regenerations to revive her and that turned her into River that would have made so much more sense than her already having regenerations and wasting all of them to save The Doctor. It also would have put the eleventh doctor on his final regeneration without them needing to shoe-horn in John Hurt as the War Doctor. It could have been a wonderful mystery moment where Amy recalls seeing The Doctor about to regenerate on the shore of Utah and being confused that if he just used his last regeneration to save Melody then what did she see. And then she might have figured out about the robot duplicate and it would have given the audience a chance to fill in the blanks and feel clever for following the story.
Flux was bad writing like the rest of series 11 and 12. If you met yourself, it would probably result in the Blinnovich’s limitation effect. I’ll agree that they should’ve reversed the role between the Doctor and River, idk how they’d do the whole regeneration bit
River not looking like Amy and Rory has always irked my soul but I was prepared to let it go. I haven’t thought about it in ages but you bringing it up here has bothered me.

The animated ending alternate isn't all that bad. Of course, it's incredibly flawed and I'm glad it stayed out, but with a touch up, it coulda been good. I love the idea of someone, perhaps the doctor, going to Rory's dad [and perhaps Amy's parents but we know so little about them that it's quite redundant or it can be an off screen thing] and telling him what happened. I believe Rory's dad [I really cba to google his name] did ask the Doctor at one point if they would be safe together. The other companions at least had departures with their parents still being with them [relative to the revival]. This is the first time that has changed, and it would have been a nice touch to see how this different companion exit would be resolved by the doctor, like a soldier coming home from war telling their relatives that they'll never see their loved one again.
The only thing I found to be "too much" in the episode is the Statue of Liberty being an Angel. There's always been goofiness in Doctor Who, but like you said it kind it goes too far and breaks your suspension of disbelief. Otherwise it's just an average episode with a strong ending. I liked Amy and Rory a fair bit, but I was ready to meet other companions at this point.
I have a feeling a point can be made that the weeping angels being able to mess with time slightly (sending people back), may have meant the vortex manipulator was a risky move, but something like that should have been said in the epiosde.
Why exactly can't the Doctor not see them again? Can't the Tardis not land in New York? Couldn't he just park it somewhere else? Can he not go to that specific year? Then can't he travel a year or 2 after? Seriously what exactly is stopping him from ever seeing them again? Also Liberty Angel is just dumb. No one noticed it moving? Or missing? You could also hear it move around. And what about "whatever takes the form of an angel becomes an angel? Shouldn't that apply to every single image of the statue?
She is made from copper aswell so the whole look at it and it turn to STONE. wouldn’t that be something mmm this giant copper thing have just magically turn to stone.
ive always really enjoyed this episode. the end where River says she'll give the book to Amy for publishing has always implied it would be given to the 1930's Amy, as that is the only version of Amy that can write the last page to console the Doctor. He could have gone back himself to a different year but as they reiterate "he doesnt like endings" and it would only further pain him. The Doctor knows they've created fixed time and the reason it should not be altered may have to do with little Melody Pond regenerating in a NYC back alley in 1969 and potentially being found and raised by Amy & Rory and finding her way to Leadworth. As Melody mentions in "Lets Kill Hitler" the last time she regenerated was in NYC.
This was actually the episodes of Doctor Who that killed it for me, I quite liked the ponds, but always felt Moffat and his inability to commit to consequences underserved them (the ending of the girl who waited giving Rory reasons to distrust the Doctor seems to be dropped immediately). I was still excited to see there ending, and them jumping together was actually done really well. and could lead to Matt having to deal with the consequences, going back and telling Rory's father they died, which if I remember right we hadn't had for a companion in the relaunch...... all for the ass pull of na paradox work this way now, they get to live together happy but you totally can't just pick them up and drop them off home...... spare me
And hollow and one of the biggest tourist attractions. And it was built. Plus how could it move in a city where people are awake all the time. And people can see the statue at all times
8:38 if anyone’s wondering wouldn’t the angel go with her, it’s been shown in utopia that you need to hold the vortex manipulator to travel with it/the user
@@NileSWPhotography I mean before even that - there are guards INSIDE the Statue of Liberty… how did it even moveeee at allll, not to mention the whole of New York City
Headcanon for why River couldn't use the vortex manipulator. Perhaps it has something to do with the angels time travel abilities itself. It screws up such simple machinery perhaps?
I'm sorry but that scene with the Statue of Liberty always reminds me of Ghostbusters II. I keep expecting to hear James Brown coming through speakers inside
2:20 The extreme thicc-ness of the angels cheeks kept it buoyant on it's journey from the island And it held up a poster saying "Don't look at me pretty please". Deduction skills 100 lmao
I'm genuinely looking forward to the next episode review because the life of me I've never actually figured out why Harry hates Clara so much, like to the extent the even the Chibnall Companions have gotten less hate from him soooooo... yeah I'm curious to see where that comes from
There's a weird thing after Tennant companions where they bin them off unceremoniously. It clashes with the melodrama too, though I'm looking forward to Yaz being dropped like that. Congratulations on your marriage too Harry, all the best.
What I never understood about this episode is the logic behind the doctor not being able to get to New York in 1969. I mean he could just go there in 1968 or even earlier, park his tardis and wait! Yes it would be unbearable for him to wait so long, but it would be a way to get them back
The Doctor could have gone back to the same time period & got Amy & Rory back, his reasoning was he couldn't land there because of time distortions,. temporal energy & that another paradox would destroy the city etc. but he didn't have to land the tardis in New York. He just had to park his Tardis in the nearest city/town not affected by time distortions, do some investigations to find them. The Doctor could have taken that motorbike he has in the tardis to drive into New York to get them. Also just because Rory & Amy landed in New York didn't mean they had to live there. They knew loads of statues there were angels so if I were them would have moved out of there once they'd found each other.
@greendiamond2604 just like the doctor goes to his grave in trenzalore but then changes the future and doesn't die there? Are you sure you're even a real fan?
@@pascalsimioli6777 one, that was a the timelords changing it themselves and two there was no mention on how he died. They only went to his grave, they didn't find how he died, his body or anything and plus I'm pretty sure Time was still a bit unfixed before he read the note...once he read that he never meets them again or saved them, it becomes fixed similarly with the work around with the curator.
@@pascalsimioli6777 and plus that was the future, the future in doctor who has been shown to be unfixed and allowed to change in some ways. You're comparing the doctor seeing a possible future at the time to the doctor seeing and causing any and Rory's deaths to become fixed in the past.
The angels can control other statues or things that look like statues that’s why the Statue of Liberty is an angel and she can move anywhere in where in the city in about 2 seconds apparently also I think image of an angle only works on weeping angel statues
Next time my second favorite companion of modern era comes in, The Impossible Girl, Clara Oswald, she might not be the the greatest character, but i'm biased since i started watching DW during Peter Capaldi time
Literally everything in this episode is great, all barring the Statue of Liberty, but that's pretty easy to ignore given that it doesn't actually do anything.
More than likely got sent back to the same time, or it’s irrelevant because River could run into him at some point just on a whim cause time is relative. Big ball of wibbly wobbly timey whimey stuff
1) since when do time lords exhale regenerative energy? 2) how does River know how much time The Doctor lost by fixing her hand? We never see River actually LEARN about The Doctor. We always see her three steps ahead of him. Good episode, though!
"1) since when do time lords exhale regenerative energy?" My guess is the Christmas Invasion when Tennant is going through post regeneration sleep. I believe that is why the pilot fish/robo-Santas were sent after him since AFAIK the Sycorax were able to smell the regeneration energy coming from Earth. I believe this is also given as the reason as to why they had to burn the Doctor's body at lake Silencio (although that situation is a bit of a mess).
I mean I could pile on with all of the problems with the way the Weeping Angels are handled here (especially big silly Statue of Weeping Angel) but it's been a downhill slide since Blink, so nothing about it really surprised me when I saw it. They really are more effective as silent predators made to feel like a true threat as villains, and that really hasn't been the case past the one episode. But, I loved Amy and Rory and was there to watch their swan song and enjoy the wacky crew of the Ponds and the Doctor one last time. Certainly not my favorite episode (I mean this season has The Name of the Doctor, Day of the Doctor, and Time of the Doctor) but I did enjoy it.
I enjoy this story good end for Amy and rory but how TF does the statue of liberty travel halfway across NYC in "the city that never sleeps" which Matt Smith even says during the episode.
She didn’t mean that Amy was going to be the publisher of the book. She’s sending it to Amy in the past so Amy can get the book published, so it is released in the past, for the Doctor to get it in the future. At no point do they say Amy was the one who actually published it. 🤦♂️
@Harry's Moving Media I am actually shocked you gave it a 6/10 - I was expecting a 4 or 5 out of 10... Definably a 5 for me. Like you, I liked some elements about teh story but others seemed half arsed. I am sad to say that I did not find this episode that Emotional either... I do like the way it ended, But it just wasn't built up well enough in my personal view! And yeah... The Angel of Liberty... Just DONT!!!!
Hot mess this episode may be, I mostly enjoy this episode, mostly because I think it works very well as a conclusion to Amy and Rory's story. Plus, it's really well directed, and the performances of the main cast are exceptional
This is probably the worst episode send off in modern who. And it’s not even terrible it’s just a depressing jumble of mess. And the biggest sin, THE BIGGEST SIN, is the fact that only the previous episode had they been given the dilemma to keep traveling with the Doctor or stay and settle down. And this entire episode takes all of that thought and throws it out the window by showing us how wrong they were to do so. And it pisses me off because even though they were flawed, the Ponds and the Doctor were great together and didn’t deserve to be done this dirty.
Favourite companion exit story, if they ever decide to make doctor who movies (that aren't part of the same universe as the show) I would love to see thing get adapted into a feature length movie
I get he couldn't go get them cause the TARDIS couldn't land in New York, but what stopped him parking the TARDIS in Philadelphia and going on the train or something?

There’s a running theme in this episode that the Doctor cannot cope with losing people or seeing his loved ones hurt or ageing. Because of this, River feels she has to hide her injury from him. When he does find out about it, she explains her humiliation at showing him her vulnerability, which is kind of difficult and embarrassing for her to tell him. She wants him to listen, and work towards being able to accept seeing her hurt. Instead he ignores completely what she’s saying and fixes her wrist so he doesn’t have to deal with the deeper issue. That’s why she’s angry. For me it’s kind of a beautiful scene as you can really sympathise with both of them, and it’s so sad for everyone involved. Idk that’s how I interpreted it I could be wrong tho
The Doctor doesn’t like endings, which is ironic since losing people isn’t new for him. Why be worried now when by your species you’re going to outlive everyone you know. The curse of immortality
What is it with Review UA-camrs ending their episodes with loud rock music that's wildly out of balance with the rest of the Audio? It's like that annoying thing commercials do where they intentionally make their content louder than the programming. Yeesh, I constantly have to reach for the remote.

ive always really enjoyed this episode. the end where River says she'll give the book to Amy for publishing has always implied it would be given to the 1930's Amy, as that is the only version of Amy that can write the last page to console the Doctor.
I was still excited to see there ending, and them jumping together was actually done really well. and could lead to Matt having to deal with the consequences, going back and telling Rory's father they died, which if I remember right we hadn't had for a companion in the relaunch...... all for the ass pull of na paradox work this way now, they get to live together happy but you totally can't just pick them up and drop them off home...... spare me
2:23 That and it's mostly made of different types of metal instead of stone.
Ah yes, the Alien 3 of the Weeping Angels trilogy.
Nope cause alien 3, especially the assembly cut was solid for the production hell it went through. Plus it was more in tone with the original movie
I can’t believe the Statue of Liberty angel actually made it onto Tv. Like it was approved… how…
First question should’ve been how tf it made it across the city without there being mass destruction and deaths.
@@NileSWPhotography I mean before even that - there are guards INSIDE the Statue of Liberty… how did it even moveeee at allll, not to mention the whole of New York City
Moffat answered this with an answer I agreed with. "It was in new York... how could we not" I love how cheesy it is lmaoo. Its great
@@DiamondFire 🤣🤣 made me laugh but still 🥱😂

Headcanon for why River couldn't use the vortex manipulator. Perhaps it has something to do with the angels time travel abilities itself. It screws up such simple machinery perhaps?
the graveyard they filmed at is a 5 minute walk from my house. I've found the exact angel they used for the over thr shoulder shot, it was so cool.
I'm sorry but that scene with the Statue of Liberty always reminds me of Ghostbusters II.
I keep expecting to hear James Brown coming through speakers inside
( 8:45 ) Maybe cause it would transport the Angel with her given it’s touching her. 🤷🏻
I assumed river couldn't use the Vortex Manipulator in the grasp of the Angel cause they feed off time power and in so close proximity well yeah.
2:20 The extreme thicc-ness of the angels cheeks kept it buoyant on it's journey from the island
And it held up a poster saying "Don't look at me pretty please".
Deduction skills 100 lmao
I'm genuinely looking forward to the next episode review because the life of me I've never actually figured out why Harry hates Clara so much, like to the extent the even the Chibnall Companions have gotten less hate from him soooooo... yeah I'm curious to see where that comes from
I wonder if he’ll review the snowmen considering its partially relevant to the plot
The main point people forget is that ONCE TIME HAS BEEN READ IT CAN'T BE REWRITTEN, once Rory read his grave his death became fixed, same with Amy's.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one confused by the whole book thing
Are we just gonna ignore the fact Harry is married?
Next time my second favorite companion of modern era comes in, The Impossible Girl, Clara Oswald, she might not be the the greatest character, but i'm biased since i started watching DW during Peter Capaldi time
I love Clara, my second favourite next to Donna.
Donna is No.1
I love anything with River Song. She is my biggest weakness in the series.
Literally everything in this episode is great, all barring the Statue of Liberty, but that's pretty easy to ignore given that it doesn't actually do anything.
I love how people think the Statue of Liberty could be an angel but it's made of copper not stone lol
How dose river know when Rory is.
Wouldn’t calling him dad just be confusing If he was an earlier Rory.
More than likely got sent back to the same time, or it’s irrelevant because River could run into him at some point just on a whim cause time is relative. Big ball of wibbly wobbly timey whimey stuff
The haircut?
1) since when do time lords exhale regenerative energy?
2) how does River know how much time The Doctor lost by fixing her hand?
We never see River actually LEARN about The Doctor. We always see her three steps ahead of him.
Good episode, though!
"1) since when do time lords exhale regenerative energy?"
My guess is the Christmas Invasion when Tennant is going through post regeneration sleep.
I wonder how fast the Statue of Liberty angel moves.
They filmed the gravestone scene just down the road from my house which is quite cool. Episodes not too great though
"You'll die..."
"WHEN DON'T I?!?!"
I can't tell if that clip of Will from the Inbetweeners was purposefully taken from BBC America or not, but either way that was nicely done.
An image of an Angel becomes an Angel + Weeping Angel Statue of Liberty should = Weeping Angels conquer the world.
I enjoy this story good end for Amy and rory but how TF does the statue of liberty travel halfway across NYC in "the city that never sleeps" which Matt Smith even says during the episode.
I never got why River is so okay with Rory getting thrown to the cherubs?? That’s so disturbing and makes no sense
Oh my god the ending of this episode is the saddest
5:51 Yes. He can trace it backwards in time. He's a time traveller.
First minute into the video and I didn’t know Harry was married
She didn’t mean that Amy was going to be the publisher of the book. She’s sending it to Amy in the past so Amy can get the book published, so it is released in the past, for the Doctor to get it in the future. At no point do they say Amy was the one who actually published it. 🤦♂️
This was the first complete episode of who I watched from start to finish and what got me to watch the entire "new" who...
I actually really like Clara, though I acknowledge that I may be the only one 😄
I'm so bored with people going looking for spoilers and then whining when they find them.
Favourite companion exit story, if they ever decide to make doctor who movies (that aren't part of the same universe as the show) I would love to see thing get adapted into a feature length movie
What!?!?! It was the WORST exit story for a companion. It sucked
I get he couldn't go get them cause the TARDIS couldn't land in New York, but what stopped him parking the TARDIS in Philadelphia and going on the train or something?
I thought this was a weak episode had a good ending with Rory being zapped then Amy.
I know the exact moment I gave up on the show. It was that stupid Statue of Liberty reveal.
Okay no i have to draw the line here… AMY AND RORY JUMPING OFF THE BUILDING IS A SOBFEST THE SLOW MOTION IS BEAUTIFUL IM SORRY THAT YOU CRINGE AT THINGS EASILY LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING THIS SFUFF WITH YIU YOU DONT HAVE TO BE SO UNCOMFORTABLE JUST LOVE IT… AND PS IS THE BEST THING CHIBALLS DONE IT MAKES ME SOB
It's his opinion, you can't just tell someone to "just love it", clearly you can't handle criticism. Also, Chibnall didn't write this episode, not sure what planet you're on?
@@stevedavidson5038 He wrote the minisode “P.S.” which is after this episode. And he shouldn’t cringe at something beautiful like them jumping off of the building that’s just wrong
@@jamiejaime9782 Oh I see, some punctuation would have made that much easier to understand. He clearly doesn't find this scene beautiful because he's cringing, it's merely subjective.
unpopular opinion but i actually liked the statue of liberty is an angel idea. i get why it doesnt work, but i thought it was fun. just a shame the rest of the episode was a bit of a car crash
Rory sitting up before Amy coz he protected her to the end. UGHHHHHH
Aaaah the Doctor kissed your fiancé too, huh. Unlucky man.
I just wanted to know what happened to the final angel?!?! 😂
I’ll never understand why River was angry at the Doctor for healing her hand? Why was that an issue lol I’d be grateful?
The curse of immortality
time for another entertaining video :D
What is it with Review UA-camrs ending their episodes with loud rock music that's wildly out of balance with the rest of the Audio? It's like that annoying thing commercials do where they intentionally make their content louder than the programming.
Yeesh, I constantly have to reach for the remote.
All weeping angels episodes after Blink are CRAP
Really hate it when the doctor gets slapped by various female characters for laughs. If it was the other way round it would never be acceptable
idk if it was misdirection that it was a mans voice at the start, its just river writing a male character surely
YES.
Hated this episode. Was the first episode of the show i didnt like. The ending sucked. All other companions had great final finishes and here its just...rori gets touched AFTER they solved the issue and amy goes with him. It was so fucking flaccid
But Rory was a immortal plastic Auton. No use to the Angels.
He got turned back to normal when the Doctor reset the universe.
At this point Angels had been overused. and not even remotely exciting anymore.
Every new ability Moffat gave them only made them harder to take seriously.
Matt Smith - Poop Face
6/10 kinda harsh ngl
Sorry but I feel this is a hard disagree.
River was annoying
P.S is amazing I love it
