  • To say that the voice of singer, Rachelle Ferrell, is supple would be to understate its magnificence. Ms. Ferrel's voice has a 6-octave range which conveys deep and surprising levels of emotion.

"Taking risks", David... is a feature that you accomodate to most pop singers and wanna-be pop stars. You seem to forget that Rachelle Ferrell (although you wont find much of her on UA-cam, doesn't mean she isn't skillful) is a VERY accomplished jazz singer and pianist. And singers of her caliber don't take risks. Why? Because they don't have to prove anything. They've already proved everything they got long before their videos got posted on YT.

    • @Dsosa720

I do believe as a singer we knew our tools and craft however there are those times where what we intend to do may go left and then our mastery of our craft its executing and or landing successfully from the intersection,or using it to our advantage. Accomplished, skilled, or trained.. mistakes happen.

Oh, her rating is fine. And any artist who knows of her respects/fears her prowess. It's the record companies and the industry itself that rarely go with the best talent and rather focus on a look or style that makes them comfortable or that they feel can ultimately profit from. But they fail to realize by making resources available ( record label) and cultivating a genius like her they would make albums that would have been classics which, of course, would make them more money. Not very smart, I know.

She just gets lost in time. It's almost orgasmic the way she transcends while simultaneously singing and playing those keys, and giving so much emotion. I felt like I knew exactly who she was singing about and like I was there right with her in the heat of that moment in time when she acknowledged that he broke her heart. This is outstanding, ethereal, and hypnotizing.

Until a few months ago i had never heard of Rachelle Ferrell. What i will say however is that she is a a beast of an instrument. She has no contemporary whatsoever, absolutely none. There is a clear difference between singers and instruments. Singers can be possessed by the the spirit of the music or songs they sing, and the spirit lead them. BUT instruments possess the spirit in the music or songs they sing, and the spirit yields to the instruments will and leading. This is what Rachelle is demonstrating in this video, and this is what separates her from every other artist out there bar none!
This poses a real problem for recording execs. Whilst they can mould and shape singers, the same does not apply to instruments!

I remember finding her CD in a music store and listening to the CD every day. EV-ER-Y-DAY!!!!!!! My friends didn't understand. "I don't know why... but I do! I don't know how-ow-ow-ow... but I know it's you. I know you love me too!" EVERY DAY! I would be so honored to see you in concert. I believe you are the only real original authentic singer left. Just a piano and a voice - superb! I pray/wish/hope to see you live in concert. It brings tears to my eyes to imagine it. I want to be so close to the front stage you could snatch me on stage and force me to sing a line of your song. I appreciate you because your instrument gave me joy and helped me discover the "First Instrument" inside of me. Thank you! May you continue to be immensely blessed for blessing me and all the world.

Sedrick Duehart bro you're 100% correct. I loved reading your comment. I heard about her in a Lisa Fischer "how can I ease the pain (live) " video. Who I adore.

Sedrick Duehart saw her twice in the 90s.....
One in ‘94 in small intimate club here in NJ, met her backstage, i was speechless, signed my cd and gave me great advice ..
Then again in ‘98 in Atlantic City, her, George Duke, Jonathan Butler, Gerald Albright.. it was breathtaking

You know that you can sing when you can take a break up song and make me feel happy about it. And she sings fully clothed with no compromises with no frills. She sings with a voice that gives life to sounds that aren't even in the room. I hear the drums the bass line the guitar player all within her voice along with the background singers she's truly a one woman show. Olita Adams Jennifer Hudson Anita Baker and this song bird here, omg what a concert that would be.

She's probably the most impressive singer that I've seen, her knowledge and the control over her own voice and her body to how produce the sound is unbelievable. Also is very useful and interesting to see how she compose and understand the music. She's a great example of artist.
But many times I was like:
    bitch wtf u doin
    I mean, I don't know hahah

I wonder why people are saying negative things about her? Its her style and you must like it , you are trying to understand why all of the faces, and why and how she hitting notes. She's got a gift and why can't you just appreciate her. Shes loved in the UK, Switzerland, Vienna, and she's from the USA and all you guys can do is pick her talents apart? By the way she has beautiful skin and the faces keep her toned, i'm saying that. She's a vegan and takes care of herself so she can sing like that. " she says".

This Radio Station will always have my membership because they had the good sense to have Rachelle in for a Studio Session. The Radio's call letters were KPLU at the time but I will retain my membership because their antecedents reached across to all communities to bring us the incomparable Rachelle Ferrell. Seattle will never be the same.

Powerful singer, my roommate looks at me crazy when i play her while i study... I'll let her stick to Katy Perry, this is soul and pure musicianship... Some of the faces she makes does look funny, but hey listen to the sound, pitch, tone... GENIUS! i remember the first time i heard her, my jaw DROPPED during the entire performance... She may not be in the lime light, but she is a well-respected ARTIST...
