"You miscalculated, I love Zuko more than I fear you" is my favorite quote on the whole show (with the blind jokes too, and the "You hurt my feelings" I won't lie).
Ty Lee every now and again lets the ditz mask slip. Like when they were hanging out at the beach and Zuko yelled about how she didn't know him, and she just muttered, "I know you." There's something to keep in mind, she genuinely likes Zuko. Not romantically, or anything, but she would have gladly been friends with Zuko, whereas with Azula she only associated with her again under threat. And in this episode, when Azula decided that they abandon Zuko to what seemed certain death, you could see the sadness on Ty Lee's face... Ok, and also the realization that if Azula could sit back and let Zuko die than she wasn't averse to doing the same to her. The confrontation between Mai and Azula was something else, though. For Azula, the betrayal was not only a rejection of the Fire Nation and her personally, but it was also Mai telling her to her face that she just "lost" to Zuko. As for Ty Lee, if you go back and watch the two interacting, you could see how Mai "tolerated" Ty Lee, usually with no protest. For Mai, that's a pretty strong display of friendship; Ty Lee knew her since they were kids, she knows how subtle Mai can be with indicators of affection and irritation. (As a side note, when Mai and Zuko exchanged declarations of "I don't hate you", it was silly and sweet.) If you watch Azula's hands as she's about to fight Mai, you can tell she was going for lightning. Ty Lee knew what was going down, didn't want to see anyone get hurt or killed, but she was also afraid. When she stepped up and stopped Azula it was like she snapped after having finally had enough of Azula's cruelty.
Easily my favorite two parter. I swear, Sokka and Zuko were always meant to be friends, too. They work extremely well together, almost instinctively. They compliment one another very well.

Mai and Ty Lee's betrayal is so satisfying, finally se wee Azula fail in something, and that betrayal is gonna be a big part of her character development
so i'm unsure if you've been aware of some of the traits they've been highlighting with Azula but....she knows how to lie. And one of the skills a liar knows...is when other people lie...and part of that is knowing when they are NOT lying. The "people person" line is the perfect summary of what you should've already concluded as a viewer about her. She knows human behavior....but not all. Every person defines what is predictable and what is not....to them. And Azula knows a great deal about honesty, in a more psychological way than Toph. She's been manipulating and trying to lie her whole life. Part of that is knowing when people are honest and when they are not, and if you are an expert yourself, you have that much more under your belt. Obviously, Azula does NOT see Mai's or Ty Lee's betrayal coming at the end of this 2-parter because it is a blind spot for her. This should be your second big read into her character since The Beach: she doesn't "get" love. Real love. And again, I can't stress this enough: it's a 2-way street - she doesn't understand it in others because she doesn't get it herself. Or didn't by traditional healthy standards. She dumped all her bets into her father...and he's a narcissistic sociopathic dictator raised by basically the same type of person, and so on back to Sozin. Ozai doesn't really do genuine love for his children.
These two together are one of my favorite episodes. Imagine being Suki, captured by Azula, separated from the other Kyoshi warriors, tossed in a max security prison for, ostensibly, the rest of her life only to have Sokka walk in her cell and break her out. BTW, Suki is a real one, OG Ride or Die. And Mai's love for Zuko has changed EVERYTHING in the Fire Nation.

Sokka and Zuko going on a prisoner bust! Such a fun 2 parter and a great way to show Zuko atoning and actually getting the respect of the rest of the gang.
The look on Ty Lee’s face during the tense confrontation between Mai and Azula was that of a child when parents argue. Psychologically a long, long fuse has been lit in Azula’s mind. It still amazes me how the writers can apply comic relief in unlikely scenes. team Sokka’s attempt to start a riot and how it’s really done cracks me up😂

Weapon, rocks, fire-almost anyone in this show uses lethal weapons. Are you trying to make me believe Toph doesn't kill people? She lowered 50 meters of ground and left two guys for dead in an iron cage alone in the middle of nowhere
Not here, no. Mai betrayed Azula to save Zuko, but she's not going full traitor. Even if the show was allowed to kill, Mai would still be doing her best to avoid it in this encounter.

Where he cause a mini avalanche to knock all those fire nation soldiers off the side of the cliff at western air temple. (I’m pretty sure it was the western Air temple… I could be wrong though.)
In the past when Zuko fought Azula he would just try to dodge her attacks or occasionally deflect them, now after learning from the dragon's his skills have advanced and he's able to completely block/dissipate her attacks.

I have to commend Melon to her reaction to the Ty Lee moment. That is something that a lot of fans catch in rewatches, noticing that throughout all this time, she has always kind of a hostage in that situation, even though she still kept being her cheerful self. But as soon as Mai's life is threatened as well she sees both a point of no return, and also a way out of this.
Hakoda and Suki didn't recognize Sokka's voice at least in part because they didn't expect it and also for Suki she hasn't heard Sokka since "The Serpent's Pass" and while Hakoda heard it more recently that is after 2 years not hearing it at all.
A big change in Zuko's fighting style since the dragons taught him, he no longer grunts and "yells" when he fights. He is much more calm in his fights now that he is not relying on rage and anger anymore.
People describe this two parter as containing the episode where Mai and Ty Lee betray Azula. I disagree. Slaves can't betray their master. Slaves rebel. Ty Lee is easy to read. She was forcibly coerced to joining the group. Mai is much smarter. And, she's better with hiding her disdain for Azula. She disobeys her when she gets the chance. Azula did make a mistake. She led Zuko and Mai back into each other's arms. She didn't do it directly, and it wasn't intentional. I'm sure she never thought once about it. Azula thinks fear trumps all. To her it's the wellspring of all behavior.
I always saw Ty Lee as just very optimistic. Like when she realizes Azula would hold the circus hostage, she’s like ‘ok well I guess I’ll make the best of this’ she is very unconfrontational unless you push her into a corner. I don’t think she would ever ‘betray’ azula, but at the same time she couldn’t watch azula kill Mai with lightning
Yeah them getting the uniforms did seem pretty easy. The only person capable of that would be the blue spirit and we know neither of these 2 are the blue spirit. That would be as crazy as thinking Master Roshi is Jackie Chun
Bte, great reaction. It's fine that you pause a lot to share your thoughts midway. I do that too. Might be hard for those who does a watch along but it shows how attentive you truly are. Especially when you notice little details like Ty Lee is sure to betray Azula eventually, and you recognized the prison guard chit sang pointed at. Well done.
I hadn't thought about this until now but..... aside from the beach episode, is this the first time we've seen Ty Lee since the end of last season? I wonder what she's been up to this whole time since their return to the Fire Nation at the start of the season.
Hi Melon These 2 episode are my favorite in the Fire book so far The talk between Sokka and Zuko is great because you get to see Thame bonding I also love the girlfriend conversation between Tham to And I like how Sokka related to Zuko living his home behind had to be tough for him and Zuko told Sokka that it was not that tough for him Sokka so there wasn't anyone you miss Zuko I did have a girlfriend Mai Sokka the gloomy girl and Zuko yes Sokka my first girlfriend turned into the moon Zuko that rough buddy Is one my favorite Zuko funny moment As for Tylee and Mai I was really proud of them stand up against Azula Because that relationship between Tham was very toxic Mai and Tylee only following Azula because they were afraid of her My second most moment is Mai tilling Azula that she miscalculated I love Zuko more than I fear you But Again that just shows how terrible a dad Ozai is because Azula did not have to end up this way 😢
Mai and Ty Lee's action were not so much of betrayal to Azula. More of wanting to protect the ones they love and care. After Zuko escaped, Mai has accepted the consequences of facing Azula. After Ty Lee temporarily paralyzed Azula to save Mai from getting killed, they didn't fight and run away because they never have intention of fighting their nation. Mai only do it to protect Zuko.
I don’t think going ahead with a plan would be a good idea anyway because if they did and they wanted to use that specific cooler, not only would that put the current prisoners at risk but also they would likely be on higher alert than ever
Yeah, only real slight with these episodes is how did they get into the prison in the first place? Kind of a plothole when they're trying to break out, like how did we get in? If they made a large jump down from the walls, i could see that being one way, but its purposely forgotten.
*you are just crazy. Who would want to be friends with you?* This migth sound bad but that s a fact. Ty lee was basically a glorified hostage and Mei joined her only to find Zuko and because she was so bored at Omashu. that s just the way it is.
Im suprised ty lee betray azula. She was her best friend for a long time. Im not surprised may betrayed azula at all. May never got to be happy in her life and with zuko was her only chance.
This is the first time you've truly seen Azula rattled Her overconfidence is her weakness, as well as her faith in her friends. I had to throw that in there, considering who voices her dad.
I think Mai and Ty Lee were still friends with her… just not as much as she thought. They had other things and other people they care about about more than her but Azula is most likely a narcissist and so she wanted them to care about her first and foremost before anything or anyone else.
Tbh there's a huge plot hole on the betrayal of mai and ty lee, why? because they're strong enough to beat a entire battalion of earthbending soldiers from ba sing se by themselves, and got caught that easy by some fodder guards? in theory they should be able to not only beat all of them but also keep azula in control since she can be stunned by ty lee anytime she tries to resist. I know it was needed but it makes no sense XD
@@mackncheese1683 go rewatch avatar then, they literally beat a entire battalion of earthbenders, each one of them alone. they were surrounded? sure but they literally didnt even resist, thats a plot hole.

To be fair he hadn't seen sokka in years and only heard him briefly twice. I know it's kinda ridiculous but still the most plausible.
That's rough buddy.
Well done.
Chit Sang totally thought that Sokka, Suki, and Zuko were a throuple XD
I hadn't thought about this until now but..... aside from the beach episode, is this the first time we've seen Ty Lee since the end of last season? I wonder what she's been up to this whole time since their return to the Fire Nation at the start of the season.
Suki is a real one. Ride or die.
Hi Melon
These 2 episode are my favorite in the Fire book so far
The talk between Sokka and Zuko is great because you get to see Thame bonding
I also love the girlfriend conversation between Tham to
And I like how Sokka related to Zuko living his home behind had to be tough for him and Zuko told Sokka that it was not that tough for him Sokka so there wasn't anyone you miss Zuko I did have a girlfriend Mai Sokka the gloomy girl and Zuko yes
Sokka my first girlfriend turned into the moon
Zuko that rough buddy
Is one my favorite Zuko funny moment
As for Tylee and Mai I was really proud of them stand up against Azula
Because that relationship between Tham was very toxic
Mai and Tylee only following Azula because they were afraid of her
My second most moment is Mai tilling Azula that she miscalculated I love Zuko more than I fear you
But Again that just shows how terrible a dad Ozai is because Azula did not have to end up this way 😢
Mai and Ty Lee's action were not so much of betrayal to Azula.
Lets F'NN GO!!! 2 uploads,4 eps in 2 days❤ you the best 🐉🔥🔥🕺💃🔥🔥🐉
Great episodes
I wanna know why that Inmate is not in the group anymore after THE BOILING ROCK pt 2?
In the next episode they all leave to find shelter and split up with the gaang.
Imagine Avatar in the style of DragonBall Z. 😆 All the yelling and powering up.
You're not dealing with the average Airbender anymore...
Can't wait for you to see the next episode all I'm gonna say❤💯
*you are just crazy. Who would want to be friends with you?*
This migth sound bad but that s a fact. Ty lee was basically a glorified hostage and Mei joined her only to find Zuko and because she was so bored at Omashu. that s just the way it is.
My fav 2 episodes. I love a good prison break episode.
Imaging touching the boiling water and screaming so loud. Just go with the slow current
There no point beating the guards there's nowhere to go remember. They are trap on the island until reinforcements arrive with another airship.
They are quite literally surrounded. Azusa is the only reason they were really able to do most of the things they did.
@@mackncheese1683 go rewatch avatar then, they literally beat a entire battalion of earthbenders, each one of them alone. they were surrounded? sure but they literally didnt even resist, thats a plot hole.
@@theinsurance2450 There is, if they literally beat all of them and just wait for the reinforcements to come they have a way out.
@@alyssongg8532 No, they can't. There is an army there. Why do you think Sokka, Zuko, Sokka's dad and Suki was running away. There is too many and they don't have unlimited stamina. Mai only has limited amount of shards. You see her take down a few guards (when their backs were turn) and you think "she can easy beat several dozen more." No she cannot. Not even with Tye Lee help.
Gotta love that DBZA was SO good of a parody that it stands up with one of the greatest cartoon series ever made
Gracias
After korra can you watch the dragon prince.
Melon Lord. 😂
I'll keep typing this (whenever I watch your reaction), till THEN.
W vid and reaction 💯
Someone broke my heart telling me that Sokka didn’t care enough about Suki to look for her. He went to rescue his dad and she conveniently was there also
Damn that's kinda fucked up
Sokka specifically asked about water tribe war prisoners. He last saw Suki in the earth kingdom. And as far as he knew she wasn't captured.
He even calls yui his gf instead of suki 😂
She wasnt at the invasion, during the invasion he was crying and had azula against the wall demanding to know where Suki was. His father is just the most immediate and it's only been days after the invasion on top of being...yknow. _his father_ that he was separating from for years and years
@@KeijiMaeda86Azula told him she was captured during the eclipse.
❤❤
