The first one works as well you just have to warp the picture. You have done too much steps on the 2nd one though.

U can save this way as a template. So any other paper can be applied much faster in d future. I think this is the purpose of this video, it is called mockup.

Yeah you are right. But it's a pain in the neck to warp again and again for every project you need.
By usins smart objects, you could save adjustment layers and etc... and save it as a template. so you only need to copy and paste images into it for future designs, which is time saver.
