Am a kenyan Canadian and living in canada is the best decision I have ever taken. Lot of kenyan are paying agencies to come to canada through visit permit. People should blame agencies who promise them jobs not canada government . When you come to canada through visit permit you need to change to work permit or study permit. Actually there are thousands of kenyan who have come through visit permit and they are claiming refugee status. Canadian Government is doing its part by giving all claimed refugees shelter and give the money for upkeep. When you have visit permit you can't work in canada but you can convert it to work permit which is not easy but an expensive process. You need to get a company that can process you lMIA that labour market Impact assessment . You need skills to get a company to apply you Lmia or uende China ya maji you pay Indians who have companies in kenya $30-$40 to apply for you lmia. Or you can convert your visit permit to study permit and universities here are damn expensive. Getting a Canadian to marry you for status is very hard. In short am trying to say if you do not come through work permit or landed immigrants life wil be tough use the money you are paying agencies to start something in your country. They are so many opportunities in canada if you have the right papers or status. As for me am a happy single mom who as accomplished alot here and I love canada .

I was going to say the same thing even though I am not in Canada but the neighboring country!
Also, why is it that most of the Nigerians who hv come there are thriving? It’s possibly because they didn’t come as visitors. They came through the skilled workers program which is not only legal but ensures there is employment waiting at the other side.
      Due diligence is important!

It's just a matter of WHERE DOES GOD WANT YOU TO BE? if it's Canada then God will make it a smooth sail...But if you went on your own Accord ..then you will surely struggle..the thing is there are people who are in Canada and are successful just like there are people in Kenya doing very well...I think we should each seek God's agenda first at all times...

The comment I have been looking for!! Couldn't agree more. So many people move to the West without seeking God's guidance/direction and then wonder when things don't work out. As someone living in Canada, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't God that brought me and He has been so good and so faithful! I can testify that with God, everything is better and smoother! And greater things are ahead.

I moved 26yrs ago from Kenya. I've worked in the social services sector in USA and I can tell you that I have seen poverty here on a level that most people in Kenya will never understand until the land over here. The mind control, plus debt, plus high cost of medical care etc keeps people stuck. I have surrendered completely and made my peace. Life is better for people who come straight from the village or they are escaping abuse etc. But if youre doing well in Kenya, I would just stay there. But remember neocolonialists have already made their way into Kenya and life won't be much different once they get their fangs into the system.

Your guess is as good as mine.

You work in social services and you say those coming from the villages...bla bla bla, who told you villagers are poor, you are driving a narrative that doesn't make sense, you think people who live in cities are doing well yet thats the poverty youredealing with in cities, villagers have farms in Kenya and thriving in beautiful homes and spaces. I work with social workers too here in US and I'll tell you that most documented immigrants from Kenya are doing very well and living very comfortable lives, stop spreading misinformation and generalization based on your narrow experience and observations. Travel more and learn, there's millions of Kenyans abroad in CA & US and just because a handful is struggling doesn't mean everyone else is.

    • @afrakanaswahilitv5520
      @afrakanaswahilitv5520 10 місяців тому +14

My friend it's not a handful that are struggling. I live in New York here and the level of poverty and struggle is very real. Maybe in small cities people are doing okay. I have worked and had businesses from Seattle, Washington where I used to work with Microsoft and moved around through Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, Florida, Washington DC and now in Brooklyn, New York. I can tell you it's not easy in America. One can get a paycheck and leave on it, week by week and mouth to mouth but no extra to save. I personally am unable to save and have $5,000 on my account. I have had more that 100 employees at one time but it seems like whenever the money come in, it's on the way out the following day. Please do not lie to Kenyans and Afrikans. I remember when I graduated from the university of Nairobi in 1989 I was very excited to have left immediately for the USA on the greencard as I was married to an American citizen but the truth is that two years I had been here and through my masters and working I came to my realization that I made a mistake. If I would have stayed in Kenya I would be much more ahead. For your information even with my boom money I managed to buy a flat in Pumwani, Nairobi. In the USA it seems like you get stuff on higher purchase and get stuck with bills. Every time I walk to pick up my mails am always scared of meeting a new bill. Stay and create a business at home if you can. "Siku njema watu wangu." Am on my way home soon.

In terms of moving abroad for work its something that some individuals are fortunate to get opportunities while others struggle. I have actually assisited individuals especially graduates in gaining internships and jobs with the contacts I had. Many went on to do well, but unfortunately some did not make it. When it comes to immigration, its a case by case basis you can never truly know how things will play out.

Life here is all about your life style, I choose to work hard & play smart, I’ve managed to invest here in properties. Although it took me almost 10 yrs of working hard two jobs to achieve that! In short if you’re coming to 🇨🇦 leave the party life style behind! Here no one has time for sherehe. Canada is extremely cold & long winters causes depression & loneliness. I tend to take couple holidays during winter ti break free from long dark days. Also remember self care is non negotiable. You have to look after your self it’s super important.

Lynn I am a Kenyan living and working in BC.The problem is that Kenyans have left their fate in the hands of agents. Most of the guys on the streets are here on visitor visas. The agents told them they can convert their visitor visas to work permits. True! But they dont tell them how hard it is to do it! (Harder than rocket science hahahaha)You must get a job with an LMIA(this document proves to the government that the employer has not been able to get a Canadian or permanent resident to do the job thats why they want to hire a foreigner) most of these guys don't even have enough money to survive for a month bcoz 'they will get jobs and convert their visas to work permits'
Like that Indian guy said you need a skill. Canada is looking for skills and you can develop these skills in your home countries and get jobs for 20:44 YOURSELF in CANADA. If you dont have a job in Canada you will struggle for sure.

All I can say after 12+ years in Germany 🇩🇪 ( just like I always tell people on my channel), people have to learn and accept that much as there are opportunities in first world nations, you must work hard and strategically ( integrate, acquire knowledge) for you to be able to make it.
2-As regards Canada just like in Europe, the countries are overwhelmed especially as a result of the Corona pandemic and inflation.
3-If you relocate illegally, you are definitely going to have it very rough!
Unfortunately people are being scammed because they are desperate and ignorant! It truly breaks my heart and I hope through awareness and empowerment, we can educate people.

Living in USA is very different from living in Canada. Mortgages in Canada is very expensive compared to USA. Utilities, insurance, gas, food,, clothes is twice high in Canada. A simple google search can show that. I had moved from USA to Canada and had to return to the USA. Winters are so long in Canada just heating your house takes up half of your paycheck. Agencies are selling Canada more because its harder to get USA visa

Lynn, this Canada thing is a common sense thing. Same reason a Tanzanian will not come to kenya to sell tomatoes on the streets due to high competition on the field. Any country you move to it depends on what you will go to do and who will help you get on your feet. Canada is extremely beautiful and one can prosper extremely well financially compared to kenya BY FAR! But you can’t come from the village and land in Toronto and wait for a job and opportunity to come get you from the airport! Am very honest. I live abroad, in one of the richest countries in the world and believe me, I have seen even their own citizens suffering economically. Why? What are their skills and plans and expectations? I read somewhere, with all the wealth in the world, if all was to be shared equally to every one the universe, the rich will become rich and the poor poor -again. So a kenyan should first plan who they will live with for atleast a year while they get on their feet, put their hustle mood on n be willing to take any jobs, plus get out of the mentality that one must be in a big city! Other places outside cities really have low costs of life and offer more opportunities. Just saying

Also education in the US is very expensive and unless one had a fully paid scholarship... having a masters degree also means a HUGE amount of student loan debt to be paid for years hoping one invested in a marketable career to help pay it off quicker.

I am a Kenyan living in Toronto for 8years now. Most people coming from outside who did enough research on the cost of living and getting work often find success. Having met a few of the Kenyans who were featured in the newsclip (which was totally gaslighting type news) the common theme is that they moved to Canada - first on refugee status, without sufficient research on cost of living, the timeline between their refugee status and getting a work permit to start working and expectations of the kind of jobs they can get as a new immigrant to Canada. I moved here as a student and even with over 10years prior work experience, I had to start from the bottom and worked up. And this happens even to people moving here from UK, Australia etc, its not a bias toward people of color. Things are hard everywhere !!

You cam make it if you're money smart but the best thing to do first is to invest in your own country first because the trap is if you invest in the country you move to you will be working and paying bills for ever. The skill and luck is what makes it like me. Plus stay as long with roommates until you save enough money to invest in your country.

Lynn I as Irene what I can say is that every country and continent is good to live in or stay for a certain duration.
    All what matters is :
    1. Do you have legal documents to allow you there?
    2. Do you have skills to boost your smooth stay?
    3. What took you to that country?
    Why am I saying this!
Because a lot of people leave their countries because they are desperate money, hence they make quick wrong decisions. Some don't even do research

Happy birthday Lynn! I’m so happily amazed you touched on this subject. I am commenting from Canada and seeing people getting frustrated coming on visitor visa to look for work/convert visa to work permit. Even employers with LMIA approval are asking for work permits. Anyone coming to Canada should preferably secured a job or school before coming here. It is so so so expensive and jobs aren’t easy to get without Canadian credentials or experience . Any Canadian credentials including a certificate will up your game in getting a job. Meanwhile while in school you can now work unlimited hours but ensure you stay in school and finish. Be careful with agents promising jobs . It is hard here but once you get into the system hard & smart work pays. And getting into the system can only be done front door. What one pays an agent for visitor visa, you might as well do a one year certificate that’s approved for post graduate work permit. Less headache and better opportunities. When a deal sounds too good think twice- agents are really smooth talkers and super salespeople from what I’m told by those coming here through them. Be wise….I have no regrets coming here I wish I did it earlier as I’d have gained more through longer school options in my youth 😊.

I am asking this because I received my permit in August 2023 for a program at a College in Vancouver, it's a post degree diploma. I have already paid for the first semester but don't have money for the 2nd semester. People should look towards other provinces.
It seems most people are only going to the warm weather provinces and city where there are explosion in population and there are no jobs.
If people can go to the Northwest territories, Albeta,Quebec etc, these areas aren't as congested, though very cold in weather, but out there one would be able to get settled. People should move out there endure the cold weather remain focused and use it as a stepping stone to work and save up, then they can move back to the warm weather provinces with whatever skills and better knowledge of the country.

I currently reside in the USA, and I can confidently say that moving here has been the best decision I ever made. I managed to achieve in less than 5 years what might have taken me 15 years in Kenya. My perspective on living outside of Kenya has shifted significantly, and I believe it's time for us Africans to reconsider our perceptions.
It's worth noting that the requirements for moving to different countries can vary significantly. For instance, a Canadian government website has explicitly stated that you typically need to be a professional in your career to work in Canada, or else it might prove to be quite challenging.
Before you decide to make such a move, I strongly recommend conducting thorough research and understanding the specific requirements and opportunities in your chosen destination. Moving abroad is a significant step, and it's important to be well-prepared for the journey ahead.

Please Kenyans if you have a job that pays you a salary equivalent of a primary school teacher do not bother and waste time going abraod for any kind of job. That capital is sufficient to live and start a great business in Kenya. Another thing most of us were never aware of, is that organic foods are unaffordable in the western world. In Africa, if you were not born in any of the 54 countries, you can only lease the land. There is a big difference knowing that you can pass land on to your family , creating generational wealth. There are pros and cons in many things in life. Had I known then , what I know now, I would have stayed in Europe.

This information is quite valuable, Lynn. Allow me to provide my perspective.
Although I've never had the opportunity to visit Canada, I don't believe Canada itself can be characterized as an inherently "evil" place. I believe it's essential for our citizens to conduct thorough research into the agents they engage with and the purpose of their visit to Canada. As mentioned in the video, Canada primarily seeks skilled labor, and going there without the skills is a recipe for disaster.
I once resided in Berlin, Germany, for a period of six months. During that time, I earned an income equivalent to 192,000 KES. However, a substantial portion, 70%, was allocated to expenses such as rent (95,000 KES), medical insurance (12,000 KES), transportation, and a radio subscription. When food expenses is factored, I was left with less than 10% of my income and people at home think umeomoka.
Key takeaway: Before embarking on a journey to a foreign country, it's crucial to have a clear understanding of your purpose for going and ensure it's a well-founded one.
    That's my take.

I would suggest if anyone is thinking of moving away from home and especially to Europe of the US to do the research, get the know the pro and cons of that country, don't go there cause someone told you it's a nice country to go. And when one comes, get to know the rules and regulations of the country, how taxes works, either you go back and get educated, don't just come and start working without the government knowing that you exist, pay taxes, all I can say life abroad is not easy, but one can make it, if you do the right things, and remember someone else's opportunities are not yours,so find what works for you.

Dave & Traci mani the youtube vloggers from canada living in kenya are an example of why even mzungu's are fleeing their own countries. Life is tough in canada. High cost of living, unaffordable housing, high crime rates, drug addictions, high taxes, etc.
They come to Africa & pretend to be "Expats", but in reality they are "economic immigrants" fleeing to another country for a better life. Dont be fooled.
My advice to africans is to develop their own continent & see the opportunities surrounding you. You can live a comfortable life in Africa.

I don't think people should blame Canada or the Canadian govt. if they are already breaking immigration laws. People need to do their due diligence. At any given time we should think critically and creatively inorder to choose to walk in the way, the truth and have the life. Anything else has no foundation and is the route to destruction. Has not this been the reality since the world was created?..However there is hope. How so? The creater lives and if we make right choices we will certainly survive. Is there anything new that hasn't happened ? .

Thank you @Lynn for putting together this very balanced view. You highlighted very well a lot of the assumptions that mislead Kenyans into thinking "majuu" is a magically paradise. Guys need to do their research. I usually advice anyone interested in going to try go for a short stay to appreciate the reality on the ground. Thereafter they can make an informed decision. I've lived out there and things are not easy. However, there is great opportunity for those with skills and value to offer. Similarly there is opportunity here albeit systems make it that much more difficult.

The biggest mistake you can do is to go to Canada on a visitors visa and expect to get a job. The easiest way is to go to school and after finishing your studies you get a 3 year’s work permit and it’s not a guarantee you’ll get PR afterwords since the points are so high.

If you go to Atlantic provinces you can get PR within a year after school, through provincial nomination. Those struggling to get PR don't want to consider this option and insist on staying in popular provinces like Ontario and BC, where even the international graduate stream is tiered by specific fields. PNPs are ideal, and you only need to stay at least two years in the nominating province before moving elsewhere.

Here in US average house mortgage is sh210,000 a month. Average income sh400,000 a month. Then you have bills and taxes. My niece who just came from Kenya last year on work visa is making sh13 million a year as an RN. That’s sh 1.1 million a month. I think she’ll be just fine! My advice, get a bachelors degree in Kenya , apply for masters program over here, graduate and apply for a work permit. Or get a two year nursing program (can even do online internationally), work in Kenya for 2-3 years, then come here through work visa. Or apply for green card and come with a work permit. People who suffer the most are undergraduates and visitor visa holders with no work permit. They work for minimum wage under the table.

I think it's a matter of where someone's blessings are. We have people who go there and are successful and probably live there, we have those who go there maybe for further studies but end up working in their home countries. We have others who don't go there at all they make it in life in their respective countries. I think one thing that people need to figure out is , if this dorbst work, what else can i do and where else can I go before I waste so much time on something that is not working.
Si ata wewe Lynn ulikua majuu and here you are living your purpose in your own country...
So people should gree to make changes especially their beliefs that when you go to Canada you must make it there and therefore you stay there for so long and by the time you realize that place ain't for you, you've wasted so much and you start regretting..

This is an experience I have gathered for over 23 years in the USA. Knowing what I know now I would have never left Kenya in 1989 to come and work for Microsoft. The money might seem like great if you do the conversion but one cannot afford eating the best organic foods that we get in Kenya. In the end the money you get goes back to paying bills and taking care of your health for eating all these Gmo foods.

The guy was probably squarely in the middle class in the Caribbean and then moved to a 1st world country and dropped status, because everything is standardized. There are no shortcuts. He therefore feels shortchanged. Canada however ranks high in almost every metric - life expectancy, childhood mortality, quality healthcare, good education system, livable cities, clean air/water, low crime rates ... The only downside is the brutal arctic winters.
