1994 Fender Custom Shop Danny Gatton Telecaster

Today's guitar is out of the mid-90's Fender Custom Shop, a 1994 Danny Gatton signature Telecaster! This 1st-run instrument is based on the heavily modified 50's Tele that Danny is known for playing - from the side-cut bridge and Joe Barden dual-blade pickups, to zirconium side dots, this one stands out! Today we have Nick Mardon on the demo through a 1966 Fender Deluxe Reverb.

I didn't understand the part about the treble edge of the bridge being cut out. Can anyone explain the purpose of that?

My guess is that DG used that cutout for his beer bottle slide technique (as seen in Danny Gatton Boogie - ACL 1992)
