Let's disassemble a Colgate Vibrating Toothbrush

- I have done several projects using the vibrating motor taken from an Oral-B Pulsar vibrating toothbrush (see some of my other videos). This time I came across an old Colgate vibrating toothbrush so I thought I would video taking it apart to harvest the motor. Having done it, it is clear there is a simple quick method of getting to the motor but I am showing the whole video uncut so you can see how I approached the task.

I had one of those, and i am using a vibration motor on that bug i just soldered!
Hey, just had a new comment on this old video and I spotted I hadn't replied to your comment two years ago. Happy new year 😁😆👍
can i ask exactly why you want to take these apart and what do you re-use the vibrating motor for?

Is there a way you could make a car with this?
As this particular motor has the vibrating weight enclosed within the casing, it would take more trouble than it is worth to try to access the shaft to connect a gear to drive a car. However you could use it to power a vibrating bot (bristle bug) easily. Here is a related playlist

A similar toothbrush - Oral B - has a slightly more useful motor, so here is a playlist of projects I have done with the motor from there - Oral B Toothbrush motor ua-cam.com/play/PLA5a2xPRSrB0bsGC0JThAhfhgShEFUOfa.html

How to put wires in vibrating tooth brush plese tell fast have a spare motar
Hi Madhav, in this video at 10:31 you can see the two contacts that you would have to solder wires to make the circuit, but this motor is only a vibrator and cannot be used for much.
The motor in the next video is the one that you CANNOT replace the wires if they break and is the one I thought you meant when I replied last time Oral-B Pulsar motor for Bristle Bugs
This video shows how to remove the weight from that motor
Helpfile - How to remove the eccentric weight from a vibrating motor
This video shows that motor disassembled Let's take something apart #2 - Vibrating Toothbrush Motor
Finally this video show a different toothbrush and is the one I often use and it has two terminals that you would solder wires to make the circuit.

GrandadIsAnOldMan thanks for help i am having spare motar then it is wasted without wire
actually the handle vibrates and not the brush, but the user gets the feeling that it works, kind of scams
I know what you mean, it certainly doesn't rotate the brush in any way but the vibrations do foam up the toothpaste on your teeth and I guess that motion is more effective than up/down left/right with a plain brush. More than likely it is a placebo effect. I can't claim to have done any scientific comparison and I quite often find I am still pressing the button to turn them on or off even when the battery has died and it doesn't vibrate any more, but I am still using the dead brush to clean my teeth 😁
Disassemble this by just pulling the motor + battery assembly outthe back. The case and electrical are two separate processes.
Hey, just had a new comment on this old video and I spotted I hadn't replied to your comment two years ago. Happy new year 😁😆👍. The Colgate brush is all moulded in place. The Pulsar has the removable electrics that pull out in one piece.
I have the exact tooth brush and i dont know how to switch the brush please can you help me?
It is a disposable brush, you throw it away and buy another one.
have u ever gleaned the motor + cam & gear from an Oral-B Cross Action? if so, how safe(for the motor) would it be to just break the plastic that's holding my prize captive? i really, really, need/want the motor + cam & gear and can't just pick them up at the nearest hardware store :/
no, sorry, I haven't worked on one of them. I did a quick search on UA-cam and there seems to be quite a few variations of Oral-B electric toothbrushes and there are several videos on battery replacement so that might be an idea for a UA-cam search for you. Here is an example ua-cam.com/video/coA_a1gqmyo/v-deo.html
+GrandadIsAnOldMan - thanks anyway. nice of you to reply. it turns out that it didn't have the parts after all. it's fine. I managed to rig something using a vibrating/sonic brush.
it turns out that butter lids and Daiso were all I need for now.
NoliD thanks for letting me know. Good luck with your project.
ty :)
I had one of these in the shower using it and the handle at the off button made a huge bubble and popped. Was really strange.
Sounds like your battery was getting wet somehow and generating gas.
GrandadIsAnOldMan It was the weirdest thing. It still worked after the bubble popped. I hope your correct about what happened. My fiance is convinced it was a ghost that she thinks we have in the house.
Why not show me how to fix the brush?
Fix it? what needs fixing? Have you changed the battery? By the time the battery needs changing it needs throwing away anyway as the brushes with have gone soft.
@@GrandadIsAnOldMan just wondering how the wire was connected.... I found the bad one with a bad battery, never use it.
@@miiikeeexxo18 On this particular model I show you all the wires and the motor are encapsulated in the silicone moulding, you chances of repairing is without cutting it all apart are nil. I think that is pretty clear in the video. Once you have cut it apart, you won't be putting it back together. There are other types of toothbrush that are not moulded together like that, such as the Oral B Pulsar that I show you at 05:49 and a video here ua-cam.com/video/iMY-qXgdXxQ/v-deo.html
