Awesome song by Tom Petty and an amazing cover by The Foo Fighters! but, this song was only overlooked by those who weren't Petty fans, Tron. The rest of us that followed TPATH already knew Tom's songwriting abilities and we knew that no one was better! That is why Tom shared mutual respect and admiration from legends like Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash... to name just a few.
Dave played drums on snl with the heartbreakers in the late 90’s, he almost joined the band as the drummer but decided to do the foo fighters instead. I love Tom petty but I’m so glad Dave chose foo fighters
The Foos always seem to enjoy being onstage, but since they've come back from their pandemic break, they just seem extra connected, invigorated, and joyful. It's really nice to see, especially right now when it's often hard to find the positives.
Whenever we get concerts back, they need to add this to the setlist. Maybe even let Taylor take the vocals so Dave can go crazy on the drums for a bit.
I'd say that Dave Grohl channeled the spirits of not only Tom Petty but also Ronnie Van Zant on this one. You can detect (or least I can) the vocal nods in this song.
I love playing this song on bass and it’s one of my favorite Tom Petty songs. Hearing the Foo Fighters cover it is so amazing and they did such a good job
That cover song can't break your heart and over joy it at the same time. 1995 where are you? Come back. I wore that CD OUT. I love you Tom. We miss you.
BADASS!!!!! love tom petty and the heartbreakers!!! This such a great song and my mom taught me well about music!!!!! Rip mother..i love you and i know you are in heaven dancing with Tom!!!!🙏💗🎶
Man, I've loved this badass Wildflowers song forever. It's so heavy and bluesy compared to Tom Petty's usual material...glad to see it getting some love. This is a great version.
Oh the time when Stan Lynch quit and before Steve Ferrone joined the band...and Dave Grohl was asked to sub as the drummer for the SNL gig. Dave drummed on this song...He was asked to join the Heartbreakers but declined cuz he was mentally in the midst of forming his own band...the FFs. Almost!
Matthew Mortwedt Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers have so many unknown songs that could be covered by the Foo’s, dirty little rockers like “Come on down to my house” and epics like “Room at the Top”. Any other suggestions folks?
I just now found out the details on this song (( the Jeff Lynne/Tom Petty connection )) and it's eerie how Taylor's son Shane channels his father's talent. Excellent all around.
Tom petty would be PROUD and this is such a underrated petty song !!!! The first time I heard this one I was like. Why the hell is this not better known !? It rocks!!!!
This version got me into Tom Petty's version. Dave Grohl played this song on SNL with Tom Petty. It just shows u that someone like Tom Petty would want Dave Grohl to play with him. Foo fighters always do a great of everything they have ever done. Tom Petty is & was a legend R.I.P.
For some reason i dig the foo fighters more as a cover band. Dave kills the vocals and fuckin taylor, what can u say, that dude has power , swing and time. Rip
Dave may have have screwed up the lyrics a little bit, but other than that this is a nice cover! I love the SNL live version with Dave on drums. Great tribute to Tom!
Wow this is fucking fantastic...easily one of Petty’s most overlooked tracks
Tends to happen when a band has too many good songs.
This and Cabin Down Below are two of my favorite Heartbreakers songs to play. They are both nearly unknown for some reason. FF did this justice.
Always one of my favorite Petty tracks. Love to hear this version.
The whole Wildflowers album is fantastic!

Gotta love Tom Petty and the foos
One of the most underrated Petty tunes. Love this!
Hell yeah! The whole Wildflowers album is incredible!
@@davidstrang3575 Oh yes! ♥
Underated and Tom Petty are never in the same sentence.
"Underrated" is easily one of the most overused words in the world of youtube comments.
Dave's come full circle from his first post Nirvana gig
Been in a few bands before Nirvana Scream being one of them
Pat playing one of his Hagstroms read he has the largest collection of them in the world gotta love a Haggy
@@legandrydirk that's not what he meant
He's circled that wagon a few times, friend
Please don’t be offended but Dave WAS the talent in Nirvana.
Tom Petty is from my hometown here in Gainesville, Fl. He's apart of me! Foos are my favorite band ever! OMG! I just had an ear-gasm! I need water. 🥵
Hello Florida!
You ROCK, Jennifer!!! (Still missing Tom... ) 💘
Keystone-Heights in the house!
Dave played drums on snl with the heartbreakers in the late 90’s, he almost joined the band as the drummer but decided to do the foo fighters instead. I love Tom petty but I’m so glad Dave chose foo fighters
I'm just south of Ocala, dying to get up to Gainesville and visit his childhood home and the Mudcrutch Farm!
Well done Dave nice tribute to the best American rocker of all time. Taylor knocked it out just like you did on SNL. Miss you both.
You can tell Chris REALLY missed playing live. He's just straight up vibing
I love watching and hearing him play.
The Foos always seem to enjoy being onstage, but since they've come back from their pandemic break, they just seem extra connected, invigorated, and joyful. It's really nice to see, especially right now when it's often hard to find the positives.
Pretty sure Dave played drums for the same song with Tom Petty on SNL years ago
He did!
Yes because Stan Lynch had just quit the band so they asked Dave to fill in and boy did Dave play those DRUMS....✌️
@@josephschlichting4339 And the fact that they asked Dave to become their permanent drummer and Dave turned it down for Foos!
Lets say that Dave played it harder than Lynch did___Tom loved it too
Pretty sure it was his first live gig after kurts death too
Dave is so real. He carries good music forward with such class.
One of my favorite tunes from Wildflowers. Such a good cover!
Yes Tom Petty . Love it
Foo fighters covers are the best
No idea how I never saw this until now, but I'm floored. What an epic performance.
From the greatest album Wildflowers.
Do you mean the greatest Tom Petty album, or the greatest album, period? ...I agree, either way (mostly the latter, though).
Taylor always hitting hard on those drums 🤘🏼🤘🏼
And he always looks like he’s having the time of his life 🥺💖
@@emmietessen-powell3795 And I'm sure he is! ;)
That bass is thundering
This is a fucking jam... nobody can capture TP's spirit, but the Foo did an admiral job. Solid.
Sick. Such a good song. Its a banger. Doing it justice
SO HAPPY THEY DID THIS!!! Especially since they just rereleased the a wildflowers album!!!
Best cover i've heard of the song. Really well done, Dave and the rest of the Foo's.
Whenever we get concerts back, they need to add this to the setlist. Maybe even let Taylor take the vocals so Dave can go crazy on the drums for a bit.
if Dave gets the drums, they will be a guitarist less
@@rajeevkaushek7370 then they can bring 'KISS guy' up on stage to fill in?
@@rajeevkaushek7370 there were only two guitar players in the Heartbreakers though 💁♂️
@@dougiemanross No, technically 3. Scott Thurston played guitar as well as keys. All depended on what the song needed.
Except Dave is the only one of them who Petty personally asked to join the Heartbreakers.
Great guitar work from Chris 😃😃.
Love Dave’s rendition.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ R.I.P. Tom😢
One of my favorite Tom Petty songs! I didn't expect another famous band to be aware of it.
ua-cam.com/video/SYhYOdsqK5Y/v-deo.html
It's an amazing track for sure. Dave played drums on it with Petty in 1994, it was his first post-Nirvana thing he did musically I believe
Hawkins forever and ever. The coolest ❤
R.I.P. Taylor what a great drummer! Dave killed this as well as the rest of the band🤘🤘🤘🤘
Always back to the best tunes✌🏼💌
This is solid, RIP Tom and Taylor.

Great song from "Wildflowers" love that album
Missed lyrics, strong recovery and all...that’s the beauty of LIVE MUSIC! My favorite Petty tune. Killer job, dudes!
Honey Bee, from the 1994`s album "Wildflowers" of Tom Petty without The Heartbreakers
Such a great jam, The drums are perfect.
Taylor is ace
Man, I've loved this badass Wildflowers song forever. It's so heavy and bluesy compared to Tom Petty's usual material...glad to see it getting some love. This is a great version.
I wish they would do this song more often too! Sounds great, And they all look so damn rock and roll.
Best rendition besides Tom! Please cover that song and put it on an album!!!
Tom Petty cover yeah
The Foo Fighters covering "Honey Bee."
Wow .. love this track !

Foo Fighters and Tom Petty - how wonderful ✌
Great Petty song. Perfect cover for the FFs.

@@georgezissis9244 Honey Bee just has a little more edge that makes it a good rocker. Maybe You Wreck Me, again off of Wildflowers?
WOW
That drummer just won wwe royal rumble! 👏😂

Drums and bass sound absolutely insane

RIP Taylor Hawkins. Too young. He gave so much. Thank you for everything. God be with your family.
In my top 5 TP songs....awesome!
That was cool!
killer version also raise your goddamn hand if you wanna hear AC/DC cover this tune.
outstanding 💕
Oh yeah! 😭❤
YES!!! I wish they put more guitar solos in their own stuff. Gotta be the only 3-guitar band with minimal solos. They still rock though!
Same. At least Shiflett got to run a little in the new album.
Yeah , Tom Petty ❤
Awesome!!!

Taylor Hawkins has been on fire lately

Damn, Taylor had the SAME energy intro Dave had when Tom Petty played this on SNL with Dave on the drums
