    This is a very respectable charging curve and charge time! 26 minutes to go 10-80% is respectable, even if it's not class leading. Depending on how much range you can get on 70% charge, it could be quite the road trip monster.

    • @Psi-Storm
      @Psi-Storm 9 місяців тому +3

      It charges 40 kwh in 13-14 minutes and 60 kwh in 28 minutes. So if you want a super fast overall trip you should drive it to basically empty and then charge just 40 kwh every 200km. But that also depends on how far the chargers are from the motorway exits.

    A comment about ID.4/ID.5 pro. The benefit about flat curve is that they can achieve better speed when plugged in with higher SOC. For example starting with about 30% SOC it can still jump to almost optimum curve. Which is a biggish benefit in real life when you're not always able to optimize your route in a way that you can plug in with very low SOC.

    Excellent charging capabilities for long trips. What I find cool is that you see a current estimate of the DC charging speed for a given state of the battery (SoC, temperature). Even more cool is that you can manually activate battery heating and that an estimate is given of how long it will take to achieve optimal DC charging power. These are innovative features that are very useful. Well done VW.

    That means that the bigger battery will have a peak charge power of +- 212 kW! 10-80% should stay the same charging time. 26min is very good for a 400V system.

    • @Foersom_
      @Foersom_ 9 місяців тому

      How do you get 212 kW?
      Peak here 191 kw. With 77 kWh battery 12 modules. With 86 kWh battery is 13 modules. 13/12*191 kW = 207 kW.

    • @Foersom_
      @Foersom_ 9 місяців тому

      @@pieter85 I see. When you talk about max current for (safe) charging of batteries that is based on gross capacity not net capacity. So use 13/12 method for calc.
      "Only 12 modules possible on MEB platform.."
      No, max is 16 modules that will be used for the gross 400 MJ (111 kWh) battery for a later ID Buzz version.
      The max modules depend on the size of the box used for a certain model. For ID.3 and ID.4 that both have wheelbase 277 cm is 12 modules.
      Whereas ID Buzz (short wheelbase) 299 cm and ID7 297 cm. They have space for 2 more modules.
      ID Buzz LWB (long wheelbase) will be 324 cm. That will have space for 16 modules.
      "Will there be a different cell chemistry in ID7 big battery?"
      No. There was a battery cell update spring 2023 where LG ES launched a new generation. LG presented it at Power2Drive in München 2023-06, with facelifted ID3 and Renault Megane-E at their stand. They stated improved fire safety, and a small capacity increase from 6.9 Ah to 7.0 Ah per cell for cells in ID3. Megane-E uses similar cell chemistry but cells are less high, that is how Megane-E have a lower (thinner) floor.

    • @Foersom_
      @Foersom_ 9 місяців тому +1

      @@RobertPuklin It will increase in series, so max voltage will increase from max 402 V (12 modules) to max 437 V (13 modules). Which is neat because ~8% higher power (charging and discharging) with no increase in current.
      500 A is often mentioned as CCS limit, however there is no specific limit in the standard, it is more of a convention. Huber and Suhner makes CCS cables and handles. They have CCS cables that can charge at 800 A for hours through 4 m cable.

      Based on info in internet, Model Y standard with BYD battery is close contender with ID7 (flat 175 kW to 50%, then drops but not like a rock - however smaller capacity leads to frequent if brief stopping on long trips).
      Based on both personal experience and info elsewhere, Model 3/Y Long Range is inferior to ID7 even if it peaks at 250 kW - as power drops real quick to 100 kW at 50%.
      In any cast the Koreans are the best with significant margin in comparable price range, as far as I know.

    • @itekani
      @itekani 9 місяців тому

      @@mjpk987 That was my gut feeling too. It would still be interesting to the long range battery side by side with Id7 since they are of comparable size.
      One advantage of the BYD battery MY over the Id7 is you get maximum power for a while almost regardless of SoC. So you don't have to hit the spot at 10-15% SoC to get the best speed. Makes you wonder about degradation though...
