  • We were thrilled to be present for 402 “City of Winnipeg” Squadron’s 92nd Anniversary Celebration which took place on 4 October 2024, at 17 Wing Winnipeg.
The Squadrons actual anniversary is on 5 October, but the event was held on the 4th as it was a working day, which meant more people would be present for the event. The squadron anniversary was celebrated to coincide with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Centennial which is this year, 2024.
Beginning on 5 October 1932, as New 12 Army Co-operation Squadron, the 402 “City of Winnipeg” Squadron has gone on to establish a long and proud history serving Canada. From flying fighter operations during the Second World War in Great Britain, Belgium, and the Netherlands, to becoming the dynamic, multi-dimensional aircrew training facility of today whose mission with its CT-142 Dash-8, nicknamed “Gonzo” thanks to the aircraft's long nose, is to generate wings-qualified Air Combat Systems Officers and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators to support RCAF operations at home and abroad.
In this video you will see 402 Squadron receive a themed P-51 Mustang model to commemorate their 92nd Anniversary.
You will also see 402 Squadron aviators model some uniforms worn by the RCAF.
Happy Anniversary to 402 Squadron, and to the RCAF!
