Thankyou I was quoted $1000 dollars to replace my control board. I ordered the part ($100) watched the video and changed it myself. Saved $900 for my family. Thankyou!
I did replace my Cond Fan Motor Original with a new one oem like you did in your video 😎👍🏼 then I turn on my AC .. but it sounded that only one fan was working the other fan ..so I saw a AC Goodman van driving by a few hours later I called this guy told me would be home around 9:30 am next day ..he checked my unit and took him like 20 mins to figure it out what the problem was he told me my circuit control panel was Not working ...I had replaced the capacitador a few weeks before this gentleman was so nice and helpful I guessed he was around 65-69 years old with 40 years of experience doing AC units ...so I gave him the job ... after he put a new one my Unit was humming and cooling my house off within few minutes ...
Hey thanks man. Funny how showing how to replace it helps you too xD. With your help I've got a 20 year old rooftop unit running great, I replaced 3 capacitors, high and low volt fuses, ran a new wire from compressor outside to inside because insulation fell apart and shorted, installed a smart thermostat, and cleaned my inside coils with solution, never ran so cold! It would be nice to add in some common problems to point to a control board being bad in the same spot to make it easy. This might be a part I have to end up replacing next since I also have a heat pump.
OOPS! Good idea to Disconnect the Power and Discharge those Capacitors before you start playing with the Control Board! I love all your videos, you have saved me at least a Few Hundred $$ just this year alone. Thanks for everything!
I like all of your videos and appreciate the tips you offer. I was searching for ways or a tool to remove a stuck connector with no luck. Super videos…thx much. I have a situation where my high efficiency carrier furnace has an issue where the inducer blower always comes on, but there is a delay with the burners lighting. Voltage at the pressure switch is 19 volts and I am thinking it is a control board issue. Any thoughts?
Hey Jay I was surprised you didn't mention to use tape the wires and mark them for the new board. Also dumb question why would you tell them to use a flathead instead of needle nose pliers since you would use them to tighten the spade
You should be able to find which board your unit needs with just the model number. In the beginning of this fan motor video I show how to order the right part: ua-cam.com/video/gGFTd2dmgxg/v-deo.html

Thank you! I appreciate the video ideas. But I do gotta say. Where I live in Hawaii now there are not many air conditioners and even less heat pumps so I may not get an opportunity to make a video like that any time soon.. (This video was filmed during our visit to Minnesota recently) But if the opportunity arises, I will try to get it done! 👍 In the meantime perhaps you can check out some of ACServiceTech's videos. Hey jay, hope you and your family are enjoying the island 🏝, great video.. got any videos on how to know if the control board goes bad? Or symptoms of a bad board? 🤔
Hey John! Thank you, yes, we are still enjoying the island life! 😎 I only have one such video so far.. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/52iq9rYI0mI/v-deo.html If you look at the other comments under this video, I answered " Trust_Jesus1213 " in a bit more detail. He asked me a similar question. If you want to see a bit more discussion on that, check out that comment thread 👍
That would help me if I were to have actually bought a new one instead of got a new one off of an Old Furnace because it was free. So I'm trying to make one work that is very similar just need to know if it's somewhat possible can't send picture for some reason
Can you please make a video for a replacement control board that doesn’t look like the old one? My first board replacement was that situation and I needed a lot of help over the phone, it was a nightmare!
Hey man, awesome videos. I would like your opinion on an AC issue I am having. I get evaporator freeze ups often and after watching all you content, I ruled out everything I can do on my own. Registers and returns all open and clean, air filter clean, blower motor working, cleaned compressor and evaporator, installed new fan/comp run cap, installed hardstart kit. I was left thinking I must have a refrigerant issue. I called for service and they said I must have a restriction because it would not "pump down" fast enough. Also, they can hear the refrigerant near the evaporator from about 10 feet away which they say you should not hear it that loud? Unit is from 2004 but due to equipment cost and availabity, they suggested purging system and adding new refrigerant and replacing the piston. Cost is $1100. So, my questions, with the freeze ups, is my compressor likey damaged and going to fail soon? Given the new equip cost and availibility issues, do you think limping my old unit along is a good idea? Sorry so long but wanted to give you all the detail. Thanks for all you do man.
Hey Jason! Sorry to hear about the AC troubles. Sounds like you already dumped a lot of time and money into it so it's a bummer that it's still freezing up. I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me the whole story too. That does help. Unfortunately without being there myself to check it out I will not be able to tell you if the compressor is damaged or failing. Compressors are generally heavy duty fellas though and a restriction in the metering device should not damage it. $1,100 is actually a good price for that job. Many companies would easily charge you over $2,000 for the same job. If they can guarantee their work, I would go with the repair instead of getting a new unit. Meaning if it still freezes over after the fix, it will be up to them to follow through and work on it until it works right. Did they say how much a new unit would be? (it can really vary from company to company). Typically it would cost you 3 or 4 times more for the replacement than the repair your described. Personally I prefer to fix it if possible instead of replacing. Other techs would disagree. But those are my thoughts. Hope it helps with your decision and good luck!
@@WordofAdviceTV Thanks for the feedback. They did not quote a new unit. They said normally they would given its age, but due to high equipment costs and poor availability, they suggest repairing as much as possible. I really appreciate you taking the time to add your thoughts, it helps. I hope you are loving Hawaii!
@wordofadvicetv I just replace my furnace control panel, it is unfortunately still not igniting. I have already replace the pressure switch and the igniter. What could be the issue. The thermostat does properly call for the blower so I thought it was fine. Is it possible that it's not and needs to be replace?
Hi, for an ameristar I can put this model of control board, I was not able to find a control board for my unit, also can I replace the motor with other motor fan if I can not find the original motor
I have one but it is not very indepth: ua-cam.com/video/52iq9rYI0mI/v-deo.html ACServiceTech has a few videos on defrost boards specifically if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/gJBph9k-tfM/v-deo.html
First off, i'd like to say i really enjoy your videos and funny stories along the way... I've been watching a lot of them over the last 2-3 days trying to figure out why my heat pump won't blow cold air, which became obvious the first day of the season i turned it on, which also happens to be the first day of 5 with near record temps in the mid to upper 90's in South Carolina, ugh... Any chance you could make a quick video explaining how to test and/or bypass the defrost control board (or HVAC control board or whatever the proper name of the control board mounted in the outdoor condenser of a heat pump)?? Also, why would the system still have power with both breakers off, batteries out of thermostat and it turned to 'off' and the capacitor disconnected (I'll explain that in detail below)?? Anyway, originally the outdoor fan was running, but no cold air... So after a couple of your videos, i turned off both the main breakers in the breaker box (mine doesn't have a disconnect at the unit) and had the thermostat in the off position, (speaking of that, the thermostat display stayed on even without batteries in it and the breakers off??) Then I pulled and tested the 40/5 capacitor (I shorted out the capacitor with a screwdriver between all contacts and then while i was removing the wires with needle noses, i leaned my wrist against the housing and got a mild shock with both breakers off?? then when i was pulling the rest of the wires off, the capacitor discharged with a spark when i touched two of the contacts with the pliers??)... That capacitor tested 36.2/4.6 so I ordered a new one... since there were possible thunderstorms, i thought I'd replace the cover until it arrived, but when i was putting the cover on, the unit started to buzz/hum, so i took it back off and saw a wire from the contactor was laying against the cover, so i just left it off (again, both breakers were off and i couldn't get any real voltage readings from any wires??)... The new one came and it was smaller, so as i was installing it, it slipped and fell against the contactor and arced, there was still somehow some power coming into the unit?? I retested the new capacitor and it was almost dead on 40/5, so i installed it and then turned everything back on and started it and now the outdoor unit would just hum with no fan running and still no cold air... so i've torn it back apart and tested the fan motor and compressor per your videos and both test ok, but now i'm seeing what looks like some possible damage to the defrost control board, but before ordering a new one, i'd like to know for sure, hence the request for the video on testing and bypassing it... Also, what in the system would have been holding a charge with the breakers off and batteries out of the thermostat?? after sitting for a couple days there is no live wires anywhere, so is there something else in the system that will hold a charge?? Any help would be greatly appreciated and keep up the good work...
Haha so you tried that too huh? 😄😇 Big Island is treating us well! I really can't complain. I think we are in a rainy season right now. It's been raining on and off every day for about 2 weeks.
I was able to find the board I replaced in the video for around 40 bucks on Amazon. 👍 Of course the prices can vary but unless you have a really high end furnace or AC, the price shouldn't be too high.
Can this cause no heat or A/C ? My furnace and blower is working outside unit charged capacitor and fan motor working fine when I press the switch on the relay to run it direct but it won’t power on with heat or AC
Turning off the power to the condensing unit would definitely help improve your future/current subscribers coming back for more great videos in the future 👍😆⚡
I had a 50 amp manual transfer switch hooked up to my house and a 30 amp manual transfer switch hooked up to my condensing unit. The electrical is correct with 250 volts coming out to the condenser but will not turn on. The inside AC turns on but not the outside condensing unit. The hook up was done by an electrician and he cannot figure it out. Everything matches but condenser will not turn on. I'm using a 12,000 watt portable generator. Any idea what can be the problem? Would appreciate it.
i changed the thermostat and now nothing works except the blower... even without the thermostat connected to the board it stays on. i have not blown a fuse or lost power in the main board. The gas valve is a smart valve and power for the inducer motor is coming from main board to the gas valve but no power is going to the inducer from the gas valve, does that mean the gas valve connector/board is no good? i checked the limit and rolls outs, all showing continuity with power coming and going. The connector on the gas valve for the inducer motor is 4 wires.. black and white IN (which has power ) and black and white out ( to inducer having NO power) ...is this a direct connection ? or is there something else that needs to be satisfied before power is sent to inducer?i trying to figure out if there is anything i didn't check
My board has one off those black chips that's says U1 under it and it looks like it's melting on top but nothing looks burned on the other side. My fuse keeps poping even after switching yellow cable to two different ones
@@Trust_Jesus I probably should have talked about that in this video too. Thank you for at least bringing it up in the comments. I do talk about it in other videos but I don't have a specific video just on symptoms and troubleshooting. For a defrost control board like the one I replaced in this video, one symptom may be that the heat pump will not go into defrost mode. This will be pretty obvious to spot as the outdoor unit will start to frost/ice over. Another symptom is that the defrost control board will stop sending power to the condenser fan, so the compressor will run but the fan will not. As for a control board in a furnace that controls both, the AC operation and furnace operation, there are a few common symptoms as well. Such as the control board not sending power to blower fan inside, or the board sending power to both, the AC and furnace at the same time. Any control board is basically the brains of the system. Power is supplied to the control board and then the board sends that power to the proper components at the right time. When it malfunctions or shorts out, it will either send power to a component when it is not supposed to or it will stop sending power somewhere which will cause some component not to power on. (such as the fan motor) That's my attempt to briefly explain it 😅 Sorry if it falls short. If things totally don't make sense I can try explaining further 👍
@@WordofAdviceTV lol, nope that explains it pretty good!! I have found a couple videos on your channel that kinda explains symptoms of problems but that might could be a good video idea for you to make!! Mabey do a video explaining the top 5 most common problems and what the symptoms of each problem would be!! Also how to determine and confirm if that is actually the problem or not (like using a meter for example). I just have a hard time pinpointing what a problem is on a unit! Like for example, you first arrive at a house and whatever the home owner says is happening! When they tell you what the problem is, how to start confirming what exactly the issue is! I know this could be very broad and vague topic and it could be numerous things but maby just do a video on the top 3 common problems you might get from home owners!! Thanks for answering me back though and I know this message doesn't really make much sense either lol!! Its difficult for me to type and explain stuff too lol...
@@Trust_Jesus @Trust_Jesus1213 That video idea made a lot of sense, thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to explain. I will add that to my list of videos to make. (though now that I live in Hawaii it may take a while before I can make a video with a furnace. Not many of those here) Haha and what the homeowner says can sometimes be misleading. I found it is always better to confirm things myself. As for where to start on furnace troubleshooting, starting with the sequence of operations is a good place. I don't know if you have seen my video on it but if you haven't, try watching the whole thing and it might clear up some things for you: ua-cam.com/video/AQD_MedIklI/v-deo.html
@@WordofAdviceTV cool!! It wouldn't bother me if you just did a video on just heat pumps 😆... I live in south Alabama so I don't see many furnaces either!! I'm trying to catch up on all your other videos as well...
Touching just a painted surface is not recommend, ground is better. Actually, that method went out with the arrival of CMOS digital logic way back in the 70’s. The requirements became a conductive wrist band with a grounding strap, which could be connected to chassis ground or an outlet ground. Thanks for the great videos!
I only do part time jobs. So I can't say much about the HVAC life in Hawaii 😅 I have been focusing more on learning how to day trade cryptocurrency in the last half a year or so. It takes a lot of time and practice but I find it exciting. I hope that this will soon be my primary source of income.

In most cases the wiring diagram will show which relay is for what but sometimes it doesn't and that's when I have no idea.. 😅 It's unclear which relay is which. Maybe some veteran tech will come along and share a surefire way to know how to differentiate them. The company I worked for (and most others) did not replace relays on boards. If a relay is sticking or not closing, the whole board would get replaced. So I never really had the need to figure out which exact relay is the problem.
Buford was fishing down by the Ohio River catching one fish after the other. Tyler, sitting on the other side of the river, wasn't catching anything. He gets frustrated watching Buford catch them all and yells "hey Buford, how come you's cetchin' all dem fish an I ain't cetchin' nuttin'? Buford says " I dunno, why don't ye come over dis side? Tyler says " I don't see a bridge, and I don't swim too well". Buford picks up his flashlight, turns it on and says " Tyler, why don't you walk across this here beam of light"? Tyler says " You thing I'm stupid? I'll get half way across and you'll turn it off"....
@@jypsydog6079 Lol, sorry about that. For some reason I thought you meant you were able to get it fixed after you jumped it. So is the reversing valve not switching over from heat mode to cool unless you jump it? Or is the heat pump not coming on at all? Just compressor coming on? Have you looked on the wiring diagram to see if there is anything in series ahead of that O pin?

Amy videos on how to diag a bad board?
I have one but it is not very indepth: ua-cam.com/video/52iq9rYI0mI/v-deo.html
ACServiceTech has a few videos on defrost boards specifically if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/gJBph9k-tfM/v-deo.html
So after a couple of your videos, i turned off both the main breakers in the breaker box (mine doesn't have a disconnect at the unit) and had the thermostat in the off position, (speaking of that, the thermostat display stayed on even without batteries in it and the breakers off??)
Then I pulled and tested the 40/5 capacitor (I shorted out the capacitor with a screwdriver between all contacts and then while i was removing the wires with needle noses, i leaned my wrist against the housing and got a mild shock with both breakers off?? then when i was pulling the rest of the wires off, the capacitor discharged with a spark when i touched two of the contacts with the pliers??)...
Would it be the same method if the board is located near the furnace
I am in need of a control board 25fc-1 and has been discontinued and not able to find a used one. Can I upgrade to a 26fc -2 which it still available?
My change was $70 .00 ... Lol ... Good change out Jay ... How's the big island treating you ?
Haha so you tried that too huh? 😄😇 Big Island is treating us well! I really can't complain. I think we are in a rainy season right now. It's been raining on and off every day for about 2 weeks.
Are they very expensive ? I had blower motor not working right and thought I might need to replace board .
I was able to find the board I replaced in the video for around 40 bucks on Amazon. 👍 Of course the prices can vary but unless you have a really high end furnace or AC, the price shouldn't be too high.
@@WordofAdviceTV geez had this guy with his own ac company telling me it was pretty high . Surprised the heck out of me .
@@frankmontez6853 Well to be fair, there are some control boards that are stupidly expensive. The prices jump around quite a bit from board to board.
Can this cause no heat or A/C ? My furnace and blower is working outside unit charged capacitor and fan motor working fine when I press the switch on the relay to run it direct but it won’t power on with heat or AC
Hello Jay,
Where can buy Hvac condenser motors.
If you watch the beginning of this video, I show how I ordered the condenser fan motor: ua-cam.com/video/gGFTd2dmgxg/v-deo.html
Turning off the power to the condensing unit would definitely help improve your future/current subscribers coming back for more great videos in the future 👍😆⚡
Lol! Sam... I only agree man. Thank you for the reminder!
Resistors rarely go bad on their own. Either there is another component at fault causing the resistor to overheat or it's a design problem.
Thank you for explaining! I probably should have looked into that more. Live and learn 🤙
Have a great weekend!
@@WordofAdviceTV -- Glad to help. Keep up the good work!
Awesome
Glad you think that! Thank you for stopping by, have a fantastic weekend!
You can't stop a Goodman!

Stay safe.
Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses.
i changed the thermostat and now nothing works except the blower... even without the thermostat connected to the board it stays on.
i have not blown a fuse or lost power in the main board.
What are some of the symptoms of a bad control board?? What will your unit be doing if it goes bad?? Thanks....
I'm sure you have a video on this lol... i cam always just look around!! Or it would be awesome, if you have a video on this, to post a link to it!!
(such as the fan motor)
That's my attempt to briefly explain it 😅 Sorry if it falls short.
Thank you for clarifying that! Always nice to have smart people in the comments! 👍👍👍
Have a great weekend good sir!
Where can I get this control board to buy?
Hey man how is doing hvac in hawaii?
I only do part time jobs. So I can't say much about the HVAC life in Hawaii 😅 I have been focusing more on learning how to day trade cryptocurrency in the last half a year or so. It takes a lot of time and practice but I find it exciting. I hope that this will soon be my primary source of income.
@@WordofAdviceTV Wow that's quite the change! Well I hope and pray things go well for you and your family. You have helped me a lot getting started in the trade =)
@@jericosha2842 Awesome! Glad to hear the videos have been helpful to you. I wish you much success in your career! It's definitely a good skillset to learn. Become a legend out there! 💪
Yeah, it's quite the change but I like to be of the entrepreneurial spirit. HVAC was not my end goal from the start.
how do you know what the relay is for on the board??
In most cases the wiring diagram will show which relay is for what but sometimes it doesn't and that's when I have no idea.. 😅 It's unclear which relay is which. Maybe some veteran tech will come along and share a surefire way to know how to differentiate them. The company I worked for (and most others) did not replace relays on boards. If a relay is sticking or not closing, the whole board would get replaced. So I never really had the need to figure out which exact relay is the problem.
👍👍👍
When we have to replace the controller board what are symptoms ?
Why does your capacitor in this video have 4 wires connected to it?
Hi, can you help me with my package belt :
SPZ 772 LW .
Buford was fishing down by the Ohio River catching one fish after the other. Tyler, sitting on the other side of the river, wasn't catching anything. He gets frustrated watching Buford catch them all and yells "hey Buford, how come you's cetchin' all dem fish an I ain't cetchin'
nuttin'? Buford says " I dunno, why don't ye come over dis side? Tyler says " I don't see a bridge, and I don't swim too well". Buford picks up his flashlight, turns it on and says " Tyler,
why don't you walk across this here beam of light"? Tyler says " You thing I'm stupid? I'll get half way across and you'll turn it off"....
Lol 😄 Tyler gets the award for the brightest bulb on the block 😅
Thanks Mr. Classic!
How much would something like this cost?

Lost power to the "O" pin that fires the Reversing Valve.. Not the stat, jumped to 24volts to get my cold back.. What else can FAIL? 15yo York.
👍 Nicely done! Thank you for sharing the quick fix
@@WordofAdviceTV That's a question...
I'd say go outside and check the reverse valve and the solenoid that's attached to it.
@@mannyforeal Those are fine.. I lost the signal from the board. Schematic shows a Def. switch that is NC. It must be on the board and failed.
