The difference between Helena Shaw and Han Solo is the fact that when Han Solo acts rogue-ish and says he's selfish - it is actually all bravado. That is key to understanding Han Solo's character - the brusque deflection of Han Solo is just that, a deflection, a shield hiding the fact that there is a good person there. With Helena Shaw and Phoebe Waller Bridge, you truly get the impression she's a horrible person - none of this is an act, she's actually the type of woman that would let her Godfather die, steal from him, and belittle him because she's just a terrible person at heart.

Indiana leaves Marion, a gagged beautiful young woman barkeep, in the care of a rapey unconsciounable Frenchman and Nazis - and this after JUST discovering she's alive, having grieved her death up to this point - also with no knowledge what she's already been through. Our worldly hero also broke her heart as a teenager, with a decade plus age difference. (His defense is bullshit; no teenager "knows what she was doing" compared to a globe trotting late twenty-something. That is some cold blooded shit my Proud Boys.) I'm not saying I don't love our charming scoundrel as a character, but part of him maturing, if his age has any character development at all, would have to involve taking fewer chances with other people's lives; cherishing personal connections more, and "fortune and glory" *raiding* ancient tombs much less.
Meanwhile Helena is younger than Indy was in Raiders. A godfather is meant to watch over his friend's child when the parent gone, yet he hasn't seen her since adolescence with a living father. He showed no responsibility for her, of course she's going cross him a few times. We know Indy is selfish (or by God we should) and getting screwed over in the heat of the chase is a comeuppance he knows deep inside has Karmic resonance. Helena has many qualities of a bitchy spoiled brat, but also rethinks her selfishness by the end of the film, respecting Indiana such she would never behave the same way again.
So Indy rolled the dice with Marion's life, who did Helena desert?? Indiana Fucking Jones, a seasoned male adventurer who has killed hundreds and escaped dozens of situations - an old man with a remarkable life, who has a few years left to live at best, and shows little to no enthusiasm for running out the clock anyway. The double standard here is pathetic, you are blind to critical facts and context. If you're madder at Helena Shaw's double crosses than that of charmless lump "Mac," (as boring as his name) from Crystal Skull, with multiple complete betrayals, and Indy still saving his stupid ass, well shit dude, you're officially an insecure male with with no perspective.

What people forget about the formula for Indiana Jones is that Indy is happy, adventurous, courageous, loving, smart and masculine. Each of the first three had love interests and love themes. I saw Indy 5 and his love interest sent him separation papers, didn't tell him he has a son in Indy 4, and when they played the Indy and Marion love theme at the end it had zero impact on me because it was not genuine to what Indy is about. I will never watch Indy 5 or Indy 4 again. It's great that we have the 1st 3 films! They cant mess those up, I own the DVDs.

I agree with the assessment that Kathleen is "neutering" the male protagonists of these old IP's under the guise of female equality. It's not so much feminization of the properties as the female leads effectively take on the traditional masculine social role of the swashbuckling warrior. I know of no women in my life who embrace a "warrior" ethos and I doubt most do. To be quite candid, for various biological reasons, the most obvious being they are smaller, can carry less, not as physically strong as men, and literally have less testosterone hormone, most women in reality embrace the role of nurturer. When last did a Disney movie showcase a female protagonist who cared about nurturing people? I can't remember. No, lets have them punch out all the men.

It's sad when a studio, like Disney, thinks (and assumes) that they know what the audience wants. But then ignores feedback from the very people they expect to buy their product. I would agree that the trend began with the last 3 Star Wars films: emasculate male characters, chuck them aside, and then insert a strong female lead. The problem with this formula is that it backfired spectacularly. They gave us two characters (Rey and Helena) that are....meh. The former being uninteresting, and the latter being unlikable. And this is what Disney wants to carry on those franchises? As someone who saw the original Star Wars as a kid, i don't want or care to see a washed up Luke Skywalker. Same with Indiana Jones. Disney did both characters a tremendous disservice and it shows in their final products. But what really makes me mad is that Disney camp is directly blaming fans (such as myself) for the dismal reviews, and refusing to buy their crappy product. I am reminded of the brilliant South Park episode - "The Ring." This sums up everything you need to know about "Disney."

Just finished this film. Say what you want about Crystal Skull, but when the credits rolled on it I was happy.
This latest one I felt sad. Sad that the movie seemed so slow paced. Sad that Indy was secondary at times in his own film. Sad that they did a Hail Mary at the end to try and give some happy emotion to it.
The problem is it just served as a reminder that we’ll never get another Indy film. We won’t have Harrison Ford much longer. Sala went from the greatest digger in Egypt to a damn cab driver.
The deep fake open was sad too, because after about three seconds, the illusion fell apart for me. Just another video game cut scene character in a cgi overloaded movie.
The action felt weightless and phony, the Waller Bridge character was inconsistent in her actions and motives.

Sad to say, but he’s as much to blame for this as Kathleen Kennedy.

We’ll sit back, not go see the new Disneyana Jones movie and enjoy the fact that, when enough fans reject this garbage, the result will be Disney losing another 150-200 million dollars. We’ll smother it very quickly and it won’t cost any of us a dime. Then, we’ll repeat this process and over again for every other movie they make to punish them for their insolence. Let’s just see how much money they can stomach losing. Bring it on Karen Kennedy…🍿

People need to stop talking about KK. She obviously has a perverse enjoyment of making fans feel anger at her and especially men. She enjoys that you rage about her and the more you do it the more she gets enjoyment out of it. What she will hate is people ignoring her completely. We saw that recently when they were praising people on stage and she thought her name was going to be mentioned but was left out.
The best thing you can do is what I have done. Not allow her to have any emotional impact on you at all. Stop caring about it. That will enrage her more than anything. She feeds off of your anger more than the small amount of people who feel joy from anything she is a part of. It’s like feeding a troll, the more it is ignored it realises it’s not getting what it wants and fades away. Let this happen to her.
I stopped caring about anything she does a long time ago and feel all the better for it. She is old and will be gone soon. Let her fade in to nothing. I promise it will annoy her much more so than the negativity she had a hold over you with when you did care about what she done.

I'm shocked that this ever got made and George and Steven showed up for the premiere. Kirk felt old in Star Trek 2, and they delt with his age brilliantly. It was his intellect that saved the day, not his muscle. Too bad they didn't do that for Indy 5. Avoid the film if you're not a feminist. Save yourself the trauma of seeing such a castration of Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones 5 rewrite
Movie starts out when Indy is much younger.
Action ensues as it's made clear that a particular relic can send a person back into their own past.
You then hear a modern telephone ring and scene cuts to a phone next to a bed where Indy is laying.(1969)
He's startled awake and answers the phone. It is his real estate agent telling him she found a buyer for his house.(he is not living in a junkie apartment)
We later learn that his son was killed in the Vietnam war and his distraught wife committed suicide less than a year after that.
Something during Indy's day reminds him of the dream he had, and he begins to research the possible location of the relic.
He eventually gets together with Sallah and Short Round who help him find the relic.
(You could have some other interested party pursuing the relic to add drama/action/suspense.)
Once Indy acquires the relic, he uses it to go back in time.
We again see him awaken in bed but this time his wife is beside him. He is overjoyed to see her then asks what the date is?
His confused wife tells him then tells him their son is out back in the guest cottage (where he lives).
Indy runs and bursts into the guest cottage telling his son "you're not going to enlist"
His son asks why and Indy says "have I got a story for you".
He then gives a group hug to both his son and his wife with an expression of love and thankfulness on his face.
During or after the credits we see the family watching the moon landing together.
    THE END
