Pressing Curved Squeegees to Screen Print Skateboards

- In this video we show you how to make squeegees for screen printing skateboards using your own skateboard molds. We had some scrap 1/8th inch Baltic birch plywood scraps laying around so we glued and pressed them. The goal is to have squeegees in the exact shape of your own concave so that you can get the best contact when printing. We didn't want to waste veneer and also needed them to be 10" wide which meant we couldn't chop up one of our old decks we pressed and rode. This was an experiment and it totally worked. Never stop experimenting with scraps around the yard.
Here's where to get squeegee material on Amazon - www.amazon.com...

DEEEEEEEP concave! The curved squeegees are so cool dude.
Thanks dude. This is what I call, “I’m bored, there’s some scrap, let’s try something.”
Those came out so badass!
Thank you!
Sooo Sick man! Can't wait to make one myself!
YEEEEEEOW!!!
Love the effort put into painting your squeegees, so much cooler than leaving plain wood
I have ADHD and just like to play with wood, glue and paint. If you're going to make a squeegee from scratch, might as well church it up a bit, haha.
Really amazing you're a master of your craft man! Love your choice of colors too beautiful. 😊
Thank you!
Nice tunes.
Thank you!
Killing it!
Thank you!
this is sick!!!
Thank you!
man. im stoked to do this
Used up all my baltic scraps today, not full length, but long enough to get to the ''hips''. should het a few squeegs'!
We use scraps!! Hell yeah use what ya got. They look dope by the way.
I'd love to see an Origin story on how you got started in all this. Love the videos thanks
Never thought of an origin story. I don’t think we have the archive footage to support one but that’s a cool idea.
@@ManakSkates even just a narrative would be cool
@@TheReviewStudios that might be doable.
This is excellent and exactly what I needed, thanks guys!
thnk you
Bro you are a legend man... wow
Caveman with ADHD, yes. Legend, not quite, haha. Thanks Jody. 🤜
I'd totes buy one, seems like it really helps get a nice even print. I'm still battling against my screens trying to get the outer edges of my graphics to print on my decks.
bit of a longshot, but would you be willing to sell one of the older lower concave ones you used to use? it likely wouldnt PERFECTLY match the boards im looking to print onto but i imagine itd be a better fit than trying to use a regular flat one
Great informative video. Couple of questions if I can ask. What size deck (for the squeegee handle) do you typically use for the squeegee? Have you tried cutting the squeegee rubber so it follows the concave?
@@statenputnal1549 the bigger the deck, the better since we make decks over 10” wide. Never tried cutting the rubber but have seen it done. In all honesty, I’ve gone back to a stock flat squeegee and just push the ends into the board with my pinky’s.
Sweet!!
Enjoyed the video. Great idea for making your own squeegees.
In the video you mentioned your mold has an off set for pressing 4 at a time. How did you make the mood have an off set? And do you think you would need to have an off set for pressing 2 boards at a time?
Beau at www.opensourceboards.com helped us with the 4 deck offset geometry. Hit him up!
Offset for 2 decks is up for debate. Depends on who you ask. You don’t have to have an offset for two decks if you don’t want to.
How did you get that crackle effect on the spray painted squeegee?
You can buy crackle paint from a brand called Montana. Google it and you’ll easily find some. 🤙
How do you use one of thoes squizzies and why does it need to mach the conkave of the board
Matching the concave leads to better contact when screen printing the surface of the deck.
The design looks really sick. Would like to see some neon green with the black crackling color on top!
I find it interesting that you use Squeegees (hell that took long to write correctly haha) adapted to the shape of the board.I am using a cut squeegee with a more flexible rubber lip and than applying pressure with the finger. You got experience with that? Do you prefer your method? That it result in a more consistent print? I am quite satisfied with the results of the bendable squequee.
I cut a squeegee the other day and it broke mid print. 🤦♂️
I have been using my fingers on the rubber exclusively but I figured if it fits the concave perfectly, I can stiffen up the rubber and push down hard and let the squeegee make the contact. Both ways work.
Are the squeegees for sale?
We don’t sell them. It was just a fun project.
