  • In this tutorial we look behind the magic curtain at the safety systems in use on the Amtrak ACS-64 electric locomotive used on the North East Corridor. The same information will work for other locomotives equipped with Automatic Train Control System (ATCS) and Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System (ACSES) safety systems. If you want a new dimension to your TSW2 Boston Sprinter game play turn on the safety features and explore a whole new world of fun and interaction.
    Now that I've figured them out I always run with them on and it keeps your stress levels up by adding realism to the driving experience.
    If you're trying to learn these systems for real life then the game implementation is pretty close but please don't use this for driver training but for general knowledge it should be fine. Please let me know if there are any mistakes. All feedback is welcome.

      Glad to be of help. I was able to discuss it with a driver who uses these systems every day so that helped me help you.

    I already know how these systems work, but I still found this informative. You have definitely done your research. One thing that you forgot to mention though. When you get an ACSES speed increase, you have to travel one whole train length before accelerating to the new speed. Your voice is very relaxing too.

      Anthony a question out of curiosity, is this the case when you have another locomotive or control car at the end of the consist, that you have to wait for a whole train length before accelerating?

    Absolutely fantastic vid , trying to master the American routes now , perfect vid for learning the safety systems, I've looked about but everybody just wants to drive with hud on and no safety on . The game plays superb with no hud and safety on and to learn make things go wrong at first to learn from your mistakes . Your vids are perfect explaining the situation at hand , keep up the great work

    Close to real life but not exact. Cab signals (ATCS) do not have a radio, all information is in the rails. The ADU top display is cab signals which stays clear most of the time. The MAS is whichever is most restrictive (ACSES or Cab Signal). There were some other small details that may be correct for the game but are not this way in real life. By the way, I'm in Rolling Stock Engineering PTC group.

      The material in this tutorial wasn't developed from the game it was developed from one of your documents describing the systems and how they work. The document was from circa 2005 so things may have changed since then.

      @trainsimulatordriver  2 роки тому +1

      Great question Donald. After much hunting around and consulting with USA train drivers and enthusiasts, we come to the conclusion it should not be labelled "TPP" but should be "APP" and it stands for Approach. Looks like the game is wrong on this one :).

    Great video, but your driving skills are unsafe. I belive that true master of theese systems needs only initial braking to provide comfort to the passengers.

      Thank you for the feedback. The technique here has been vetted by actual ACS-64 drivers.

    • @trainsimulatordriver
      @trainsimulatordriver  Рік тому

      I have just checked the actual Amtrak ACS-64 operators manual and it is as I thought. Minimum (initial you called it) is only 6-8 pound reduction in the brake pipe. It is not enough to a) stop the train travelling at speed or b) forestall the safety system. You MUST have at least a 15 pound reduction on the EQ reservoir and/or put the brake handle into Suppression to forestall the safety system taking over and initiating an automatic penalty brake. The correct position is Suppression for a normal stop or Service if you need to stop in a hurry. So my friend, if you want to use Minimum you go right ahead, but if you're driving with safety systems on (ATC and ACSES) then its not going to to the job for you.
